Interesting. There is now an online log in, for reservations for church. To ensure Social Distancing. My husband made reservations for next Sunday.

Yippee! DH and I have hair appointments on Thursday, June 25 at 12:30 and 1:00. I will try to schedule manicures/pedicures that day, as well. June 25 is our anniversary, and we hope to have dinner at our favorite restaurant.

Many forces behind alarming rise in virus cases in 21 states | Xfinity

NEW YORK (AP) — States are rolling back lockdowns, but the coronavirus isn't done with the U.S.

Cases are rising in nearly half the states, according to an Associated Press analysis, a worrying trend that could worsen as people return to work and venture out during the summer...

Michigan hasn't reopened completely yet, but by the end of the month, we should be back to whatever "normal" might be for the foreseeable future. Like other states, I think Michigan will experience a surge in cases by mid-July, perhaps sooner. I'm happy to have a little more freedom to move about, but DH and I plan to stick close to home all summer.

Are you concerned about a resurgence this fall/winter or even late summer?

I am in SWFL and even with the summer heat, I still think it will continue to spread. The beaches in summer are a huge draw for the locals. We call it "getting our beach back."

The tourists will go to the theme parks. JMO, but essentially all the businesses are doing their own thing. There's no phasing going on here. It is a joke, the tourists dollars rule.

Not many people wearing masks as I expected but dang, it is hot as Hades with one on. In the fall, once all the snowbirds return, I believe it will spread even further. I still cannot get any additional gloves or alcohol wipes in my monthly medical order. I still have some but I hope by the fall they can restock. I predict a tough winter, even in the south.

ETA: My Covid-19 antibody test was negative. My friends husband had a positive result. I wasn't around him at all. He was sick around New Years and never went to the doctor at the time.

I'm pretty worried about a resurgence. California had such low rates initially, and now several counties are on the wrong side of the ledger. Mine is one of them - but there are others, like Marin and Monterey and Butte, that are much worse in terms of increase of cases.

My county's rate will double in 28 days if we keep having the numbers we've been having. So instead of 1400 cases out of about 800,000 people, it will be 2800 by July 10. If nothing changes, then by August 10, it will be 5600 cases. Surely we won't let that happen?

But, most of me thinks that could very well happen. At some point, a few younger people will die or lose a limb or other crucial functioning and people will start to panic and wonder why our county Public Health Officer stupidly did not require masks - anywhere except worn by employees inside businesses (which they do not have the resources to enforce).

Our rise in cases came mainly from a large cluster at a fairly fancy senior apartment building, where people are independently living or with support for memory care. These seniors mostly do their own cooking and many go to the grocery store. Two grocery store workers not too far from this building tested positive as well.

I wish we had contact tracing as part of our reopening plan, but of course, that's not gonna happen.

Just to be annoying, I bought our cat, two new birdie toys. They chirp annoyingly loud when she plays with them.

I deliberately throw them around the family room when the news is on. She runs around and chases them, making even more noise. If they stop chirping, I throw one in the air.

For some reason, my husband now has the message that I don't want to hear any news when I am home. :p

No problem with that! I read a lot of news items on various sites but limit my news-watching to local late afternoon/evening reports and NBC Evening News. I did watch most of the George Floyd funeral on Tuesday but hadn't realized that it was on all of the major news networks, not just cable stations.

Shopping expeditions today were exhausting but necessary. I came back, washed up and went to bed.

CVS must have had a truckload of hand sanitizer delivered. Every conceivable size, brand, price with a special table set up right inside the door. I thought everything was triple it's normal price tho. There were very few shoppers but most were wearing masks.

I finally broke down and went to Home Depot today. I bet I hadn't been there since Jan/Feb. I am stalled on home projects without going so I suited up and went. It took me 2 hours and I had a list. I can't judge how heavy or sturdy something is by looking at a photo online. I noticed a number of people in masks, mostly couples and families. The people who look like they were popping in for 1 or 2 items, no masks at all, no social distancing, etc.

Dollar Store - a quick stop for 2 items. Interestingly enough, again, all the couples had masks. Some individuals also but none of the children wore masks. Most did a good job with distancing.

Great strategy!

are they doing blow outs at your hair salon? i am told that the salon i go to in
michigan will not do blow outs--i am trying to figure out if that is a restriction mandated
by the governor, or a choice made by the sa!on owner

Our appointments aren't until June 25, so I don't know what the procedure will be. I've heard the same thing about no blow-outs from other people, so maybe that is something that can't be done at this time. I won't mind not having blow out, but my hair definitely needs to be trimmed. A half inch of dry ends cut off will make a huge difference, with or without blow out styling. Our stylist and her partners are in a small studio in Broadway Studios and Suites in Troy. The individual salons/studios are quite small: Ours has three chairs, one shampoo bowl, a couple of chairs for waiting, but it is pretty tight quarters. I think the studio is about 220 sq. ft., so there won't be room enough for more than two stylists and two clients at any given time to ensure appropriate social distancing.

I assume you're back home in Michigan now. I hope your medical test went well and that your trip back to Michigan was safe and uneventful. Welcome home :)

As soon as it warms up a little, I'm going outdoors to clean my Beetle. I've been wiping off steering wheel and shift but haven't done a thorough interior cleaning since last fall. DH took my car to a car wash where they did the inside, but they really don't do as good a job as I do :p I will clean seats, dash, console, doors, etc. with Clorox wipes and all windows with Windex. Vacuum front and back as well as trunk and freshen up with Febreeze.

Side note, on how much money I am saving by doing my own hair, nails now. Of course, I spend it all on my garden and masks...

I’m spending way more on groceries. Plus amazon for masks and gloves for the family.
Families with children who would normally be in school or childcare where they would eat two meals a day are now home bored and eating!
I used to expense most of my meals so it’s been a real budget buster. And I’m buying at more expensive stores because Walmart quit doing pickup due to staffing and closing at 4pm everyday now. It’s unreal.

Cleaning out the car actually sounds like something I should do this week. I haven’t done that in 2-3 months. Of course, the FL heat may be burning up every living thing each day too so there’s that. I did finally get the interior light bulbs. Now to get the covers off.... watching more videos. Who designs a light cover that needs a special tool??? Good grief. LOL!

The interior of my Beetle hadn't been cleaned well since last fall. I needed to get inside and do a really good job of cleaning everything - seats, doors, windows, dash, etc. I climbed into the back seat and wasn't sure how to get out! I'm definitely not as nimble as I used to be  It wasn't too hot yesterday for an outdoor project, and I'm glad it's done.

FDA pulls emergency use authorization of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19

The regulatory agency said the drug is "unlikely to be effective" in treating the coronavirus.

The Food and Drug Administration rescinded the emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine to treat hospitalized COVID-19 patients on Monday, saying the drug carries too many risks without any apparent benefit.

The authorization was first issued in March, and applied to patients hospitalized with the illness and those in clinical trials. In April, the FDA warned doctors against prescribing the drug to COVID-19 patients outside of those settings. Monday's action will not affect clinical trials, which are expected to continue.

The announcement covers both hydroxychloroquine and a related compound, chloroquine phosphate...

DH and I received COVID-19 "care packages" from BC/BS yesterday. Each package included a reusable cotton mask, a packet of 12 disposable thermometers, refrigerator magnet with "Quick Tips" for keeping healthy, connected, active, and happy. a booklet with lots of pertinent information, a packet of cucumber seeds, and a door/window decal indicating that your home practices safe distancing. It would have made more sense for the packages to have been sent several weeks ago, but better late than never, I guess.

Poll: Americans are the unhappiest they've been in 50 years | Xfinity

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Spoiler alert: 2020 has been rough on the American psyche. Folks in the U.S. are more unhappy today than they've been in nearly 50 years.

This bold — yet unsurprising — conclusion comes from the COVID Response Tracking Study, conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago. It finds that just 14% of American adults say they're very happy, down from 31% who said the same in 2018. That year, 23% said they'd often or sometimes felt isolated in recent weeks. Now, 50% say that...
