Good suggestion. I foster dogs but have a fenced in yard. So, I don't have any of those. It would be something I'd have to buy. I noticed the local convenience store, WaWa, now has a dispenser by each gas pump with clear gloves. I used them and they worked great.

don't you still have to pick up the poop?

Nope. I have 1/4 acre and the back yard is about 75’ x 100’ with a 6’ privacy fence. I only foster 1 dog at a time. Nobody cares how much “fertilizer” is out there, especially me!

She is a little cutie pie. I would get attached and want to keep her.

Although, I have fostered cats, and never got too attached, I knew that they were just visiting.

Well so much for waiting to go to the dentist..... Sigh. A tooth on the bottom broke off today. It has an amalgam filling so after all these years, it is not surprising. The dentist is going to look at it tomorrow. This is complicated by being a cancer patient on blood thinners. I'm so over 2020.

When DH and I went to the dentist last week, he told DH that they are seeing a lot of cracked or chipped teeth due to people grinding their teeth from COVID stress. The rabid virus is taking a toll on everyone - even if you don't get COVID.

Dentist update: After 3+ hours, I am finally home. My appt was 12 noon and I didn't get to a dental chair until 2:15pm!!! I was about to fall asleep in the waiting area. Fortunately, it was not a broken tooth per se but a cap/crown that had come off. I don't remember having a cap/crown put on that tooth. The dentist and hygienist both said it was in really good shape.

They worked on rebuilding the tooth base up so the cap could be cemented back on. There was a little decay on the base of the tooth which is what they think triggered the cap to loosen. The dentist was able to remove that by using the grinder drill thing.

I was happy my Medicare dental plan (Argus) covered some of it and discounted some of the costs. It was $220 and to be honest, I was very grateful.

They all did good with their PPE and no one seemed especially stressed in the office. I was able to get a cleaning scheduled for early Dec. Of course we'll see how everything is at that time.

Trick or treat? A fact check on a COVID-19 Vaccine before Halloween
Snips:
On August 26, U.S. Food & Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn tweeted that the FDA Vaccine Advisory Committee will be convened Oct. 22 to review COVID-19 vaccines.

On August 30 Dr. Hahn was reported in the Financial Times stating he would consider issuing an EUA — an Emergency Use Authorization — for a COVID-19 vaccine to be given to certain groups of persons even before the end of a Phase 3 efficacy trial.

If none of these large efficacy and safety studies are complete by October 22, then on what basis will the FDA, and its independent Vaccine Advisory Committee, make decisions regarding potential Emergency Use Authorization for any COVID vaccines?

OMG.

And my cap on my tooth came off again.... and I must have swallowed it.... FML

I was eating eggs and a hash brown. Nothing hard. No problems brushing my teeth or flossing last night. I just want to scream.

I'm sure that the last thing you want to do is make a return trip to the dentist. Hopefully, you can get this taken care of quickly - and without additional charge.

I had a medical appointment today. It is a completely different experience now.

1. Arrive 15 minutes early, call office from your car. Receptionist comes to your car, gets your already filled out forms, which were mailed to you when appointment was scheduled.
2. Nurse comes to your car, you go to office door, temp taken, use hand sanitizer. Nurse unlocks door, lets you in, locks door securely behind her, takes you to doctor office. No one is in waiting room.

All workers are behind plexiglass.

Really, this is probably far healthier and hygienic than before.

DH went swimming yesterday for the first time since the health club closed in mid-March. The gym reopened last week, and the aquatic center opened this week. Yesterday was DH's first opportunity to use the facility. He had the entire pool area to himself for nearly an hour. He did stretching and warmup in the heated therapy pool, then swam in the lap pool. The whirlpool has been drained and cannot be used, and the saunas in locker rooms are also closed. They are not requiring showers prior to entering the pool area. There was only one other person in the locker room when DH put his gym bag in a locker, and cleaning people were there when he left. He looks forward to resuming his twice-weekly swims and will go more frequently after he retires in December.

Nope, definitely not without additional charge. On Friday, they got me in and another 3 hours in the chair. I had to have a new cap molded and made. There is not enough tooth left to protect the root long term. I certainly don't want a root canal on top of all this.

Medicare dental, if you choose a plan with dental that is, does not cover crowns. At least the plan I can afford doesn't. I think there should be an exception to this if your cancer is in your blood / bone marrow or has progressed to your bones. Dental care is bone care and it is horribly expensive. Me not doing the dental care can be the beginning of the end. I'm already going to die early, I don't need to expedite it.

So, $777 for the new crown. I put 1/2 on my credit card and when the permanent crown comes in, I will put the other 1/2 on my credit card. Medicare did pay for the visit and x-rays tho. It's just money right? I can't take it with me.

Everyone was very nice, used their PPE, lots of new gloves when they needed to do different things or step out for a moment.

This is similar to my PCP's office protocol, but I'm not sure how it will work when it gets cold and/or snows

I miss the gym. I used to go to spin every night, yoga 3 x a week, and swim 3 x a week. I just feel like it would be unsafe. Right now, I pretty much go to work, come home, go nowhere but the store once a month or so.

Spin and yoga at home just isn't the same for me.

Between exercise and your vegan diet regimen, you must be in amazingly good shape! I suspended my health club membership two years ago when I was diagnosed with hyponatremia (low sodium). I mostly enjoyed classes like Zumba, Dance Fit, small group training sessions, cardio and stretching, cooking demos, a few aqua-exercise classes. I also used the walking track and recumbent bikes, but I didn't really like the other machines or free weights. I was never comfortable using the locker room and only did so if I was going to a pool class. I will consider renewing my membership if and when I feel safe because it would be nice for DH and I to go together a few times a week once he retires.

Opinion | You're not the only one who can't keep track of the days right now. Here's why.

Our perceptions of time have never been static, but you're not alone in feeling like you can't keep track of the days right now.

“Are we still meeting today at 10?” I emailed a colleague at 10:05 a.m. last Tuesday.

She quickly replied, “We’re not meeting today. Our meeting is on Tuesday.”

I had to think about it for a moment, because I’d thought for sure it was Tuesday; still, I didn’t trust myself. I checked my phone, and it was indeed Tuesday. Before I could even reply to tell her, she replied to me: “Oh my God! Tuesday is today!”...

No, I have become such a couch potato now. It is crazy. I never go anywhere, or do anything. This pandemic has really changed me. We don't travel any longer. We don't go out to dinner. This is the first summer that we didn't take any trips.

Ski season is coming up, they closed the resorts in March. I am looking forward to this year.

This pandemic is a buzzkill. I have become unmotivated.

So sorry @PayrollNerd! I hate dental issues. :(

This makes me :( You seem like a high-energy woman with a real zest for life :) That so many of us are unable to do the many things that enhance our lives is frustrating and was almost unimaginable prior to the demon COVID. DH and I would have looked forward to our annual fall trek to Mackinac Island (for his October 1 birthday), but we will not make the trip this year. The island is open, some of the hotels/other accommodations are operating, as are shops and restaurants, but we would not feel comfortable anywhere besides our own home. We will obviously not be taking our annual winter cruise, either. Neither of us want to fly, stay in a hotel, or board a cruise ship any time in the foreseeable future. It's going to be a long winter, I'm afraid, but our health is more important than travel. Hopefully, ski resorts can reopen since outdoor activity doesn't seem to spread the virus like being indoors. Be careful on those slopes :D
