Opinion | How can you tell whether Covid-19 made you overly anxious or just reasonably cautious?

The ongoing uncertainty does calls for some caution — as well as forgiveness for the decisions you and your loved ones make with incomplete information.

Every day in my still-virtual psychotherapy office, clients question whether or not to go back into their workplace, meet friends for a drink at an outdoor café, or send children back to school or college — and their own reactions to those dilemmas. A shy young woman who has enjoyed sheltering at home during Covid-19 said, “I’m not sure if my anxiety about going back to work is just my regular discomfort about being in groups, reasonable anxiety about being with people inside, or pandemic paranoia.” A new client told me, “I’ve never had any difficulty with separation before.” She said, “But now I’m afraid of letting my children out of my sight.”

Meanwhile, another client is thrilled to be returning to work. “The dangers of the virus are down right now,” they said. “Everyone’s being careful — even people on the subway are wearing masks. And it’s so wonderful being back with people, even if it’s not the full contingent of employees. Everyone was kind of giddy at work on the first day, so happy to be back together. We need this!”...

Well Florida just blew the lid off social distancing by opening up at capacity. <insert eye roll>

I’m wondering if my insurance company knew what was coming. Today a box from Aetna was delivered. I had no idea it was being sent to me. It has all kinds of nice stuff. Hand sanitizer, face mask, bandages, dental items, sunscreen, etc.

LOL! Well, I'll admit no one ever sends me anything so..... I opened the brochure and it is a word search puzzle - to stimulate my brain, allegedly.

I wonder if everyone got the same thing or why was I chosen to get it? Maybe because I'm high risk? Hmmm.

A coworker gets boxes of masks Sent from their spouse’s provider? I think. He’s very high risk.

What a nice surprise !

I love word search puzzles and had read many years ago that they promote whole-brain usage (right and left brain activity). I do several word search puzzles daily. I also enjoy "Jumble" puzzles - unscramble words and solve picture puzzle. I do some puzzles on line but also have many books of various word puzzles. Now that waiting rooms don't have magazines, I've been keeping a small word search puzzle book and pencil in my purse so I have something to keep my brain active while I wait :D

Interesting about the whole-brain usage. I haven't done very many word search puzzles but once in a while try one. I especially love Sudoku puzzles and can do hard ones, but not the extremely hard ones (if that makes sense). I have a couple of Sudoku books that were mostly too hard for me and caused more frustration than enjoyment. DH usually does the Jumble and is very good at those; me, not so much. He also does crosswords, and lately we have been collaborating on the big NY Times crosswords that are in our newspaper on Sundays. I think all of these are good for our aging brains!

I may have a slight addiction to sudoku. Persistent rumor lol.

Today I managed to pressure wash my back patio. It’s 8’ x 14’ so not too big. I bought one of the bottles you put on the hose to bleach it. The patio was so dirty tho, I decided to try to pressure wash it first. It’s not a big pressure washer so I knew it wasn’t going to be perfect. I’m happy with my progress tho.

SWFL summers are rainy which causes mold. Definitely a health risk for anyone. Figured this break in tropical weather is my chance to get it done. Well, started anyway because hurricane season isn’t over yet.

Very nice!

I was just thinking I need to pressure wash our grandpup. We're under construction, as per our "phase 3". (We say that so it sounds planned). Phase 3 involves nasty sheds in the backyard getting repaired and one hauled off. She's dirty as a pig.

Texas just went to 75%, and it feels too soon to me. At least everyone is masked (except, of course, the people with their d*mn noses out).

That is amazing. I watch the produce delivery pictures here and salivate, and now this! WOW Did they send to all customers, I didn't get mine

My sister's Medicare plan allows her to get over $125 a quarter of stuff that is medical such as those. A longggggggggggg list. She sends me the list and orders some stuff for me. Due to such, I've been able to throw out 20 year old neosporin etc from my medicine cabinet etc. Living alone, I don't want to get sick/have injury and not have someone to run up to CVS to get something so I'm well stocked with all the basics.

Bee sting-benadry ....check.
Boo Boo-ice packs.... check.
Boo Boo-ace bandages that have inserts for ice packs... check.
Vitamin D for deficiency... check.
etc etc.

I just had a neighbor get me 8 items from Dollar Tree as they still go out. Since they are owned by the same company IIRC, I wish that Dollar Tree would do such.

I think Family Dollar owns Dollar Tree or the other way around? But no matter, I'm sure people would like that, too. Jmo

My husband retired a year ago. I need to investigate his plan.

Yes, mine is like $35/month and each month I survey my stash and my kids - ok, what haven't we chosen yet and what does everyone need? We ordered thermometers so everyone has their own now.

My oldest has a great first aid kit for her offshore trips - at least as good as the boat captain must keep!

The blood pressure cuff is great. My youngest who is 5' 10" and weighs maybe 125lb can stop by, safely check her BP and adjust her diet. She is only 23 but she's inherited high BP from her Dad and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) from my Mom.

DH swam three times last week and called his pool experiences "BHC - Lite" (Beaumont Health Club). On Friday, there was one other lane swimmer and two women in the therapy pool. On Sunday, there was one other swimmer and three people exercising in the therapy pool. DH recognized the swimmer and chatted with him about how few people seemed to be using the facility. DH didn't know whether the man had actually gotten information from management or if he was speculating about BHC not being able to stay open with so few members returning after the months'-long hiatus. DH went upstairs to check on the status of the gym and saw one person on a treadmill and three people walking the track; all wore masks. It's very unusual for there to be so few people using the gym/pool on Sunday, and family swim from 2;00-4:00PM has been cancelled indefinitely.
