Geez Louise! I thought personal attacks of members were against TOS.
It is, but it usually depends on who being trashed for it to be called:D

And one more thing, Cal. As to your ad hominem attack about my supposed lack of "education," you post your c.v. and I'll post mine. And then I'll translate the Latin phrases and Greek acronyms like "summa 🤬🤬🤬 laude" and "Phi Beta Kappa" for you.

Well now I have to admit that in undergraduate work, Phi Beta Kappa entered into my vocabulary but Summa 🤬🤬🤬 Laude didn't. However, my skirt chasing ended by the time I graduated with my MBA, they added 'top five students in the graduating class' to the end of mine. Any fool who tries can add Summa or Magna to their BBA....it's just regurgitation and a little effort. Hanging in the top five students--in your MBA class of around oh 300--and being recognized for it requires both sheer genius and a faculty sponsor...I have both! ;) Talk to me when you finish up your Master's degree (oh and you gotta do it in under a year and six months, that's how long it took me).

But I love it that you tried. In the South, we have a term for your chest puffing and it goes like this "oh bless your heart"! :D ;)

Since you obviously know latin, I will leave you with this....Iuventus Stultorum Magister

My chest isn't puffed. You made an assertion and I cited evidence which refutes it. I know how you like other people to prove their contentions.

I have two grad degrees as well and I have published in peer-reviewed historical journals.

None of this means I am an expert on political or military history of the 1940s, nor have I claimed to be, but it does mean you need to find a different form of personal attack. Particularly when the best you can do after all your supposed reading is, "The Germans killed people because they liked to kill."

(ETA: I wouldn't know about BBA degrees. Where I went to undergraduate school, business courses were considered inappropriate to a liberal arts education.)

Welp, if any of your degrees are in history...I have lost total faith in the teaching institutions of the US! :D

No, the Germans liked to kill because they enjoyed the power of doing so.

Anyway, I have work to do so I'll just say 'have a nice day'

"Like" and "enjoy" are such impossibly vague terms they don't do justice to the vast reading you claim to have done on the subject.

Absolutely. But someone has to challenge Cal's penchant for calling people uneducated and illiterate every time they post something that requires thoughtful reading.

Personally, I prefer to respond specifically rather than hit the alert button.

There is a big difference between an uneducated argument and an uneducated person....you missed the subtlety again.

:truce: since nobody wants to talk about the injustice of a 16 year sentence for these crimes i give up.

Sherri, I absolutely and emphatically agree the 16 years were too few. Should have been life, and that only because I don't believe in the d.p.

There is a difference, but it isn't I who can't make the distinction. Here is what you wrote:

Aha, even further evidence of your nonsense and lack of education.

No mention of the argument in the reference to lack of education. You asserted that I was personally lacking in education. I wouldn't care, except that sort of slanderous crap has become a habit for you, a habit that needs to be broken.

And for what it's worth, educated, intelligent, well-read people can still disagree. In fact, they are more likely to do so.

Again, uneducated OPINION....if we have learned anything here today, someone who has obtained a high degree of education can still have an uneducated opinion. :D :bang:

Aha, even further evidence of your nonsense and lack of education.

The Jews did not declare war on the Nazis. The Jews didn't walk into Nazi pizza parlors and blow themselves and 50 'innocent' Nazi women and children up. The Jews didn't fly four planes filled with innocent passengers into three buildings filled with innocent men and women and a field in PA.

On the other hand, the Muslims have declared war on the West in a fatwa. They have killed thousands of innocent men, women, and children.

So your comparison of innocent Jews to muslim terrorists....doesn't pan out. The Jews did nothing to the nazi's to deserve their wrath, other than the mere fact they existed. The muslims have done a plenty to deserve mine and that of my Country. ]]

So you're saying,Cal, that we Americans have the motive for genocide, or killing of an entire ethnic group? I hope you're not saying that. I'm truly shocked at your seeming grouping of "Muslims", as if we should be angry at all of them - does that include the very Iraqis we went over there to liberate?

Of course, the Iranians are not even Muslims. But back to subject - Because of the very nature of war, atrocities occur, no matter which side is the "good", or which the "evil". That's why we have the Geneva conventions and other safeguards, but they still happen. But miraculously they're the exception, not the rule; our guys are bending over backwards to do the job over there they're supposed to do, and figuring out who the bad guys are is tough.

But in contrast, the Nazi ideology itself was a cruel atrocity, with a rationale to eliminate an ethnic group, including women and children, and the deformed, homosexual and anyone else "different', and to control the world with a fascist dogma. What I learn from reading about what happened in Germany and Europe is to not turn your head, look the other way, do not be in denial or pretend it will soon end, do not follow leaders blindly like sheeple, ask questions.

That would be funnier if you hadn't preceded it with a full page of bull.

You may find an opinion to be in error and you can argue it accordingly. You may find that opinion to be based on false or inadequate premises, or developed using faulty logic. None of these conclusions necessarily make the person holding the opinion uneducated.

This entire argument has been based on the relative value we give to Nazi atrocities v. American ones, and whether the obvious disparity of scale makes those values incomparable.

There is no evidence here that anyone participating is unaware of what the Nazis did; nor has anyone claimed American crimes in Iraq have produced anywhere near the same body count. Lack of education and lack of reading have never been the issue in this thread, except, perhaps, in the inability of some people to read the posts of others carefully.

Great post, Martha. Before Cal starts calling you uneducated, you meant to say Iranians are not Arabs. Most of them are Muslim.

It does seem a terrible injustice, Sherri, that this man was allowed to live out his life. Too bad the thread got so way off topic.

I never have followed what happened to all the Nazi leaders; it's such a horrible subject to think about. Didn't one die recently who ran off to South American and lived there?

I am mad at them....every last damned one of them.

Those that kill in the name of their prostituted god and those that sit back quietly and let it happen without protest....that is until someone prints a cartoon of their prostituted god.

Thanks, Nova; now that IS confusing - Iranians aren't ARABS; but they're Muslim? Frankly, it's all too confusing to me - the Baathists were SUnnis, but then there are lot of other Sunnis, and all the different Shiite sects.

Yikes. Don't worry, it's our main ideas that we hope to come across, Nova; the details aren't that important. ;) I have no problem admitting I'm undereducated in Middle Eastern knowledge, history or anything else. Who could possibly know it all? ;)
