Her pit bull pets kill Middleburg woman

  • #81
I can tell you that part of this lady's problem is that (1) she had more than one pit and they formed a "pack"; (2) since she allowed them the freedom to do whatever they wanted in her house (sleep with her, lay on the furniture, etc.), she gave up the power of being the "alpha" dog in that pack and they took over and killed her. AT the very least if you're bound and determined to have a pit bull, DO NOT have more than one and for crying out loud, make sure they know their place in the pack - and that would be the lowest on the totem pole!!!

True words, Jeana.

This case still has me scratching my head. The police officer said yesterday that we will probably never know what caused the attack, since her son was in the shower when it occured.

What happened, I wonder?

I hope they are going to do an autopsy, or whatever they call it when it's an animal. I also hope they autopsy the owner, because I am really wondering if she went down for some medical reason and the dogs reacted the way they did to try to "pull" her to safety---like the guy in California.

I did read that although no one had ever had problems with her dogs, they had escaped the yard before and run wild for awhile before being contained by the owner....the pack thing is a definite aspect of this death, but even packs don't normally turn on one of their own.

Its a necropsy. I hope there are some answers too. I heard she was taking out the trash. Maybe they smelled something in there they wanted.

Yea mine do fine with bones too, the pup will take hers under the car and then go take my adult dogs and he just lets her have and she takes it under the car to so he can't get either one because he can't fit under the car. They never have a problem with food or treat agression. They both know to sit before they can have a treat. The funny thing about the toys, my older pit had a stuffed bear that he loved he slept with it in his kennel and he never tore it up but every other stuff toy he has, not surew what was special about this one. Well when the pup was about 9 weeks she got it out of his kennel and ripped it to shreds in the kitchen. I walked in and there is my older one sitting with what was left of his bear in his mouth with the most defeated look on his face and the pup sitting in the middle of all the stuffing. I should have took a pic, we still are laughing about it.

Aww! Poor baby! My Rottie lets the Pit take his stuff too. He'll just wait patiently since the Pit has an attention span of a 4 year old and go get it when something else catches his attention.

Does yours catch bugs? They drive mine absolutely crazy!!

LOL! That magical farm must be quite a place!

Hmm. Alot of my pets went to live on the farm too. Anybody know where this "farm" is? I'd LOVE to go see all the animals! LOL, this must be a common little white lie parents tell to protect their little ones from hard truths.

I wonder if they were neutered, if maybe they smelled a female, or maybe they were fighting over food and she tried to intervene? I hope they do an autopsy also to make sure it was definitely the dogs.

Yes they are loving all the wolfe spiders around the house right now, they go on a hunt around the house digging at every little thing they see, then they go in and look in the basement. I hope they catch them I hate those things!

My pit sits by the back door, patiently waiting for the sun to go down. When it gets dark, he starts whining for me to flip on the porch light. Then we have to go outside while he drives himself crazy trying to get the moths that are flying around the light.....he LOVES that game, even though the times are few and far between that he has actually caught one!

Editing to add: Right now, we've got "a" mouse in the house.....and Ninja just watches it run back and forth. Moths he'll catch, a mouse, not so much!

I'm wondering if they were Pits or mixes or some other dog entirely.

"We have two full-blooded red-nosed pits and they just attacked our mom," a second son is heard saying on one of the 911 calls. "We can't get to my mom and my brother just went out there and they attacked him too. They don't need to get out of the ambulance or the dogs will try to get them, too."

Mine goes for the flying variety too although he does chase a cricket or spider when he notices them. He hardly ever looks at the ground though. Flies are his forte, he'll sit there and never take his eyes off it until he goes for the kill.

He also got a rabbit once. I was SO mad at him for that! They would always be in our old yard and would hide down in the grass. He'd come out, stop and wait for movement, then the chase was on. They'd race him around the yard and they'd make it out under the gate in the knick of time until that night. That poor bunny made a wrong turn and headed for the other side of the fence. I never knew rabbits screamed.
Mind you, this was at 3 am so I'm out there in PJ's screaming at him and throwing everything I could find, dog bowls, pooper scooper, sprinkler etc.
Once it stopped making noise he looked at me with this puzzled look on his face like "What happened?"

My Rottie was in on it until the bunny started screaming, then he hightailed it back to the patio shaking, the big baby.

Just call me Clarice, I can still hear the crying of the bunny.

Thanks Jeanna, I've seen SO many reports where they'll show the dog and say it's a Pit and it's not.
I don't buy that they never showed agression before, that's just me but I find it unlikely. I would love to know what went down that day. That poor woman! And for her boys to find her, that's heart breaking.

Mine likes to chase rabbits too. Unfortunately we have a pet rabbit. He will not try to hurt it or chase it but he gets very excited. My son held the rabbit by him over the baby gait and he was wagging his tail and licking it. I thought to poor bunny would have a heart attack. My son says awe look he's kissing him. I said or he is tasting him.

I don't think I'd chance having a rabbit. LOL Or a bird, he goes nuts for them too!

I had a rabbit growing up, that thing was evil incarnate! He'd attack whenever you went in his pen to feed and water him.

My Dad said he took him to a petting zoo. LMAO!!

Most Rescues wont take in aggressive dogs, they already have their hands full and an aggressive dog is a liability for them. The best thing to do is have the dog PTS if has shown aggression.
But from reading the original story, those dogs never showed any aggression, that is scary.
This will be my only post here. Read my headline and you know how I feel. But I wanted to add to this that in my city we have Indy Pit Crew. They WILL take in aggresive dogs just so they are not put down. They live in a place where they never come in contact with children.

That's awesome Indy! I've always said that if I won the lottery I'd find the biggest stretch of land that I could and make my own no-kill shelter. Something like Noah's Ark, have you ever heard of them? They're amazing.

I could live with that. If knowing adults want to put themselves at risk by having these dogs, I'm all for that. However, if there are children or neighbors who don't want to have to put their lives in jeopardy because these dogs are near, then they should be put down.

It sounds like a good alternative for these dogs. I don't see anything wrong with them being taken there! I'm glad that you've had time to help out. But please be careful!!

Most never show any signs while there also, weird huh? Even though they dont show it, they still dont leave. I have done this for almost a year and never once has any of them so much as growled at me. I must admit when I first started I was a little scared.
