She needs to stay sober if she wants to keep the baby and get her surviving daughters back. But is that even possible? Were the other girls also adopted?
The oldest girl has been living with a relative for years. The second girl, Ariel (the third) and the fourth girl were all adopted by the Kaluas and the Kaluas had the baby girl in foster "care."

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Oahu man accused of murdering his adopted daughter was denied a bail request Friday.

Isaac Kalua and his wife Lehua were charged in 2021 for the death of 6-year-old Isabella Ariel Kalua.

Police suspect the couple abused the little girl and then killed her in August of 2021.

Of course he was denied bail, I mean really?!! The wait for trial to begin in this case has been a travesty, had he made bail, I would think there is something very wrong with the court in Hawaii.

*******
Deputy Prosecutor Tiffany Kaeo objected to Kalua’s motion for bail, telling the court that he is a serious flight risk since he faces a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, and there is a high risk he would obstruct or attempt to obstruct justice, possibly injuring, intimidating or attempting to injure or intimidate a prospective witness or juror.

The state’s key witness, who gave a detailed description of the circumstances, is the now 14-year-old sister of Isabella, whose body has never been found.

*******
“While Defendant alleges that the main witness for the State is no longer in the care of the Kalua family, the State has no current information regarding the permanency of the situation,” the state said in its written opposition.

The “Public First Law Center” says the community should know why the Department of Human Services placed the child in the Kalua’s care despite signs of abuse and neglect.

DHS says those records are protected by privacy laws.

The Hawaii Supreme Court has ordered parties to submit briefs in a case involving the child welfare records of Isabella Kalua, a Waimanalo girl who was placed by the state with a couple now accused of killing her.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued an order giving Viola and other respondents such as the Department of Human Services until Sept. 3 to answer Public First’s petition for writs opening up the records. Public First would have another two weeks after that to address the answers.

The Supreme Court’s order is significant because the state’s highest court could merely have denied Public First’s petition in a brief order without asking for further responses.

Three and a half years later - trial rescheduled yet again for May 19, 2025. I can't tell you how much this pizzes me off. The Kalua's are gaming the system ... they should have pled years ago. Wouldn't surprise me if they do just that, weeks before the trial starts.

Warning -- Graphic, sickening details.

March 5, 2025

Court records filed last month explain what may have happened to the body of the 6-year-old Waimanalo girl who police said was murdered by her adoptive parents.

*****
Last month, the defense attorney for Lehua Kalua filed a motion to dismiss the murder charge because the indictment was incomplete, lacking key elements.

Attached to the motion were the grand jury transcripts of testimony by Isabella “Ariel” Kalua’s older sibling.

*****
(after Ariel / Isabella was found, not breathing, in the dog cage)

The older sibling said the Kaluas started going to different public beaches about every other day.

They “poured this green stuff into the public toilets” the sibling said. Lehua was washing dishes at the beaches, “pots and pans and... other cooking materials” that Lehua used.

When the deputy prosecutor asked what the sibling was doing while this was going on, she told the grand jury panel that she was the lookout, told to “watch if somebody’s coming.”

She said the Kaluas poured green stuff down the drains of the bathrooms after they were done.

*****
Rosenberg said the older sibling was apparently forced to assist “in disposing of the body.”

Another attorney for the other children, Trevor Potts, believed the green fluid was possibly acid.

*****
Article includes more horrible details. The oldest sister is expected to testify at trial (if they ever get around to having one.) Poor girl has had the anticipation of testifying hanging over her for 2-1/2 years and counting.

A hearing for motion to dismiss Lehua's murder charge is scheduled for April 14.

Snipped quote
"Rosenberg said the older sibling was apparently forced to assist “in disposing of the body.”

Just sickening.
My heart breaks for these kids.
There is some evil in this world. I hope those responsible are held accountable.

How old was the older sister? Poor thing.

How old was the older sister? Poor thing.

The oldest sister was 12 at the time. There were 5 sisters. Ariel (renamed Isabella upon adoption) was 6 at the time of her death. Ariel, her 12-yo sister and her 3-yo sister were adopted by Isaac "Sonny" and Lehua Kalua. The Kaluas were also foster parents for a 1-yo sister and her adoption was pending. There was a fifth sister, age 5, who had been living with a family member since she was small and was never in the Kalua household.

12-years-old, how horrific. Unfortunately for her, she is able to remember what happened. Thank you for your answer.

The trial is still scheduled for May 19.

April 29, 2025

Lehua Kalua, the mother accused of murdering six-year-old Isabella “Ariel” Kalua, walked in the court room in a white jumpsuit hoping for a different outcome.

But after a judge denied dropping her murder charges, the little girl’s loved ones breathed a sigh of relief.

*****
Lehua wanted the judge to dismiss charges of second degree murder and hindering prosecution, saying there were defects in the charges against her.

*****
The couple’s trial date is set for May 19.

The trial has been delayed for the 10th time.   :mad:
It is now scheduled for October. Lehua refused to appear for a bail hearing on June 27.

Another delay in the murder trial for Isaac and Lehua Kalua, who are accused of killing and dismembering the body of 6-year-old Isabella “Ariel” Kalua in 2021.

Lehua Kalua refused to leave the Women’s Community Correctional Center Friday morning for a court proceeding over bail.,

*****
It (bail hearing) has now been reset for July 11.

*****
Bakke (legal expert) said it can happen because an inmate is ill or because they want to delay the proceeding.

Most of the time, the judge will reset the proceeding, but if the inmate does it more than once, Bakke said the judge can order them brought to court by deputy sheriffs without consent.

A judge could also “waive their appearance,” Bakke said. He added that’s not a first choice because the defendant has a right to be present at their own hearings.

I swear, if this trial gets continued into 2026, I'm going to lose it on Judge Paul Wong. He's had this case before him since JANUARY 2022!!!!!!!!!!!!
