I really want SC to be innocent. It would make this tragedy so much easier for all to bear. Statistically, however, the death of a pregnant woman is most likely caused by a lover, boyfriend, spouse. To me, all things considered, it's SC.......I just wonder if he had help before, during or after.
Recently a friend of my friend lost her pregnant daughter to murder by the boyfriend who later committed suicide. This happened on the Big Island.
With Carly (as with Brittany) speculations abounded, especially in the absence of facts. And we have so very few facts. Thanks so much to the locals that help us better visualize the areas being considered and to the sleuths that made maps from Google Earth. Now, I guess we, along with everyone else, must wait for more facts to be revealed......so painful and frustrating for all, especially the loved ones.

I just watched last night's recording of KHNL that aired at 10pm. Police did escort the family to pick up Charli's tv, entertainment center, stove and a vehicle Charli had purchases for parts.
Quoting the reporter:
"Legal experts say landlords can not enter a tenant's property without a judge's ruling and they have no authority to remove anything."

Before anyone asks, stove??? A lot homes on Maui use propane or electric cookstoves, the kind that go on top of a counter.

SunsetGirl, I'm on the mainland right now and while talking to dh (dear husband) as he drove 5 mins southeast of Peahi on Hana Hwy, the connection got warbled and the call was dropped. It is no joke that service is super spotty in the rural areas of Maui. I haven't been able to reach him in 20 mins. The locals know the spots where service kicks back in. For instance we know we don't get service on the Pali so we do our best not to get stranded out there.

I would've preferred if StevenC said he sped up to reach a service spot on the highway and not because he drives fast but...

This is not true in California. I can enter a tenants domain in case of an emergency (gas/water leak). I just have to leave a note on the door that I entered the premises for _________ reason. I would never remove a tenant's personal property. There's no reason.

Yes, in case of an emergency, a landlord may enter the rental. Problem is, some landlords do remove people's possessions when they shouldn't. I wouldn't want to even open myself up to something like that as a landlord. Any unscrupulous renter can accuse a landlord of taking something they didn't.

Something like coins or jewelry can be missing awhile before a renter realizes it's missing and probably wouldn't remember the last time they wore it/put it away. It's all iffy imo. I think it best for all concerned to just stay away from that situation if it can be avoided.

Our maintenance people enter our apartment without us here. Usually I know though and I put my dog up but we had a leak and it was leaking downstairs and they came in and my dog did not like that they had to call me.

"27-year-old Charli Scott went missing on Sunday, February 9th. Five days later, family members say when they arrived at her rental with police who needed to collect DNA evidence – they realized someone had stolen Charli's TV, entertainment center, stove and baby toys for her unborn son."

The family went to her home 5 days later. Is this the first time police where at her home?

OT: Was it a mask or a helmet? I've seen the helmets with menacing skull faces.

I think my friends said mask that looks like a skull face...but I was not there and do not know for sure. I would guess it was not a Halloween type mask, rather the kind dirt bike riders use to keep from swallowing dust and bugs.

I doubt they were klinging to valuables in a fearful manner...they are all outdoorsy types who at most would have an Iphone in a pocket during a quick stop to peek at a waterfall or something else of interest.

It must be extremely difficult for family and friends to wait out the search and the processing of the evidence that has been found so far. I wish the MPD would bring in some outside professional help.

I would be more easily convinced of the possibility of SC's complete innocence in her disappearance if he was said to be despondent, out there searching for her every day, and pleading for her safe return. I have seen no reports of this behavior on his part thus far, but I may have missed them.

What is in Nahikui. From what I can see on Google maps there doesn’t seem to be much there in the way of buildings and the Nahikui Road seems to be the only way in and out.

I would love to know exactly where the dog was found. I know they said something about the Markerplace in Nahiku but was that just the location where they picked up the dog or was that actually where she was found.

Since Nala was not dirty and did not have any cuts or scratches on her it would imply, at least to me that she had to have been dumped out of a vehicle directly in Nahikui or at least on the roadway to Nahiku.

Do we know if anyone has gone door to door asking if they heard or saw anything odd Sunday night or evening Monday morning.

I also would be asking specifically if anyone saw CS’s vehicle or the truck that SC had in the area as well as if they had seen SC in the area prior to Sunday evening. Sometimes, you get a better response by asking people what they say or heard in person, than waiting for them to call in a tip. Most people see and hear things, but dismiss it as not being important or possibly connected and others; especially older folks don’t want to “bother” the police with something they think is trivial.

From what I can tell on the satellite view from Google (I don’t have Google Earth, just the regular one) the area around Nahiku looks to be much flatter, with less steep hilly areas and a lot more flatter land that is directly accessible from the road way as well as shoreline areas than any other location along the Hana Highway.

The family says he is cooperating with the police, so I guess that must mean they are continuing to question him as new things develop. They've been known to go back several times and ask more questions.

While his attitude seems to be pretty casual, I would bet if he was acting despondent or extremely upset and pleading for her safe return, it would sound "fake" to many people. He was not really involved with her, it was more of an on-again/off-again thing, so why should he put on an act when it would probably not be believable? Some LE are pretty smart and can figure out an act when they see one, so it might be best if he just acts like his natural self. He has not been on camera that I have seen, so we really don't know how he is feeling. He may be worried and pretty upset by now, yet not really show it.

I do understand your POV, and am not disagreeing with you, just offering another way to look at things.

I can tell you that if I went missing, my husband would not be saying much to reporters or agree to be on camera, he is not good at showing his feelings to outsiders. We've been married a long time, so people would be expecting an impassioned plea... and they would not get it. He would clam up, I can almost guarantee it.

Nahiku Rd. goes from Hana Hwy. to the coast. I have driven that road. It is quite narrow and there are usually puddles in the road. There are few residences there and none are close to the road. I think you are right about Nala. It's most likely that she was left directly off Hana Hwy. near the Nahiku marketplace. She'd probably be quite muddy if left on Nahiku Rd.

On again, off again... yet calling her for help.

I always think about that guy in Cleveland that kept the three girls for over 10 years. When the first girl went missing, he passed out Missing Persons flyers and helped with the searches. Speculation on whether a perp would or would not get involved in Search & Rescue seems to to be a moot point.

I agree, Nikki and TXLady2. Acting despondent, pleading for her return throwing himself into the search, etc. would be suspicious behavior in my mind given the nature of their relationship. Guilty or not, he's probably very scared.....for himself, knowing he's under intense scrutiny.
Are any of the local sleuths able to tell us in one way or another what the Coconut Wireless is saying?
A little aside: I lived in Hana and Kipahulu area in the mid 1970s.....and often felt a sense of dark foreboding mingled with loneliness despite the staggering beauty of the place. Not too many people lived there back then. I felt we weren't welcome for the long haul so I left and moved back to Kauai.

Not searching for someone who cared enough about you to drive out to help you on a dark night is, in my opinion, heartless to say the least.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. The tranquility seems contrived! Then again, I'm a city girl and naturally my senses are alerted no matter where I'm at.

In regards to CocoWireless, there's a lot of positive things being said about the case and it's progress but since the network is so small, it's hard to say anything too loud without it coming to bite you on the behind. Does that sound lame? I'm sorry. Literally, everyone there knows each other and it's just code to keep it island style.

Nikki......that's great to hear locals feel progress is being made. I didn't have that feeling before now. Gotta respect the locals. Interesting to hear you feel that same, latent unwelcomeness/hostility that I felt.

Kapua,
SC seemed a bit cold regarding Carly in general....a bit self-centered and, as you say, heartless. Don't know what's behind his not helping in the search for her. Guilt? Bad vibes from the rest? Fear he'll give away too much if guilty?

I feel sorry for Charli's situation prior to her disappearance. I've done the single mom dance and cared so much for the father of my unborn child with the hope that things would change. It wasn't until many years later that I realized I was in an abusive relationship. Not all abuse is physical, in my case it was psychological and emotional.

SC has to live with the absence of his child for the rest of his life regardless of his involvement in Charli's disappearance. It may not be the justice some of us want but it's served just the same.

Sad situation. No one is the victor.
