"Sharky" as in lots of sketchy people hanging out?

I think it's sharky, as in sharks in the ocean.

"Honomanu Beach
Half way between Hana and Paia

Kind of difficult to get to in regular rental car. If you have 4 wheel drive don’t miss this unblemished beach. Surfing can be very good. Left side has some of the most dangerous waves in the islands. Car theft can be high here. Hanamanu means House of Sharks and the name fits. May be one of the most “sharky” spots on Maui. Swimming not advised!"

Maybe this will help? Putting details/times in one spot:

Sunday, 2/9/14

8:00pm … last seen at sister’s house in Haiku
8:30pm … picked up ex-bf at his house (as per ex-bf's interview)
9:30pm … arrived at ex-bf’s truck stuck in Keanae at MM20 (time as per Mom’s interview)
10:30pm … “they got back to Haiku” “he doesn’t know what happened to her” - referring to ex-bf’s words about losing sight of her headlights “around Twin Falls” (quoting from both his & Mom’s interviews)
11:00pm … last GPS ping on Charli’s cell phone at Honomanu (from FindCharliScott FB)

(I'm sure these times are close 'guess-timates' as someone previously asked about everything happening so conveniently in 1/2hr or 1hr increments)

Monday, 2/10/14

AM … sister became worried she hadn’t heard from Charli, went to her house to check on her, family went to ex-bf’s work to ask him:

Mileka: "Monday morning they showed up?"
Steven: "They showed up -- one of them showed up at work and told me what was going on and then called me later and I rushed out to show them exactly what had happened the night before and proceeded to help them look." ... from ex-bf's interview

PM ... seems logical that this was when they actually drove out w/ex-bf & started driving around the general area looking for any signs of her or her car; probably stopping at any 'public' areas to check/inquire and making a million phone calls to see if anyone had heard from her or seen her

10:45pm … Mom reported Charli missing to police

(Nala, Charli’s dog was found alive and well on Upper Nahiku Rd on Monday morning but family didn’t find out until Tuesday and got her back Tuesday night)

Tuesday, 2/11/14

I cannot tell if any 'official' searches were coordinated or just family & friends on Tuesday:

“we drove the whole route all the way from Hana all the way back home 3 times yesterday and there were 8 of us out there” “there is no indication of where she might have gone over (referring to the guardrail) but that’s all we can think of” ... transcript from Mom’s interview (I believe she was speaking about searching on Tuesday)

“She was exhausted and it was dark when she left,” said Wais. “I’m afraid she fell asleep at the wheel and is just waiting for someone to help,” said Wais who joined other family members last night in scouring the Hāna Highway for signs of Scott or her vehicle. http://mauinow.com/2014/02/12/search-for-maui-woman-focuses-on-nahiku-area/

Wednesday, 2/12/14

9:00am ... Organized ground searches led by Morey Inc. began ...
Searches focused on mile marker 20 past Keʻanae and mile markers 27 to 29 in the Nāhiku area

6:00pm … friends acting on a ‘hunch’ found Charli’s car at the top of “Jaw’s” Peʻahi, on its side, burned

Thursday, 2/13/14

Ground and air searches continue ...

Early evening … some of Charli’s clothes were found near MM 14-18:

“Paraquats Beach is where her clothes were located and confirmed as hers, the search is focusing in the area. It is nearest to Hanamanu.” (from FindCharliScott)

Friday, 2/14/14

Ground and air searches continue ...

UPDATE: calling out to all cowboys with horses and riders we need assistance in search and rescue to find "Charlie" ... from Morey, Inc

Searching parties are needed for every part of Hana Hwy between Haiku to Keanae! EVERYONE IS NEEDED, ALL HELP IN WANTED! Her car was found at "JAWS"! Any recourses you can have and obtain we need to meet at DOOR OF FAITH ROAD IN HUELO AT 8 AM! Binoculars, walki-talkies, snacks and water, first aid kits, flashlights, anyone with a 4x4 vehicle, dirt bikes, quads! ... from Morey, Inc

You probably have to be a local to truly appreciate the terrain they are searching - it doesn't sound easy!

I guess maybe both literal & figurative! Thanks for the quote (sorry I hadn't checked that link).

I live in the area and can answer any questions you might have about the area, locations they are referring to in interviews you've posted links to (sometimes locals call places / roads by our local names and not necessarily what they might be called on a map). The entire area they are searching is extremely rugged terrain, very rural. It is basically in the rainforest. Very dense foliage, a lot of steep cliffs and drop-offs, streams / gulches that lead to the ocean, etc. The coastline is often hazardous in this area as well. We are also expecting a North Swell today, which could impact the search.

Welcome to WS! It's fantastic to have a local join us - we'll try not to overwhelm you with questions! Do you personally know Charli or her family? Is it a fairly small community where everyone kind of knows everyone?

LE does not need to name someone a POI to obtain phone records. In many cases, a POI is never named, yet lots of records are obtained. In Heather Elvis's case, clearly phone records have been retrieved and examined. Yet no POI named. They just need probable cause and a warrant.

Thank you! Yes, I know Charli, but not extremely well (I was not aware she was pregnant before her disappearance was made public - and I had briefly spoken to her last probably about a month ago). I do not know her family or the ex-BF.

Yes, Maui is very much like a small, tight-knit community. It's a small island, so most people will find a connection to everyone in some way or another, even if they don't know them personally.

I agree with you. We should be following MSM not facebook as it is often just rumors. I am now seeing that sources say the sister did this. Sorry, but I am not believing it. I just watched an interview with her and her dad. I can't imagine that she would pick up the evidence and drive it in.

That interview was heartwrenching! MAUIWatch interview w/Charli's dad and sister

The audio is a bit difficult at first and it's a long interview but worth watching the entire thing.

To Charli's family: please know that so many from all around the world are watching and praying for Charli's safe return!

My understanding about the evidence that's been found by volunteer searchers (first the men's pair of blood-stained pants and then Charli's clothing) is that these were not found by the sisters, but by other volunteers. The sisters confirmed that the 2nd set of clothing did belong to Charli on the MauiWatch FB page and to LE (I would post the link, but I am new to WS and still figuring out how to do that - forgive me).

ETA: to my knowledge, there has been no official confirmation if the men's blood stained pants are indeed related to the case, but they were processed by law enforcement (I believe they spoke of this in the interview with the Dad and Brooke, the sister).

I think the big concern is that with so many volunteers involved in the search on foot (about 100 people yesterday and even more today), in an area with very poor cell phone reception, if a volunteer finds something, they want to be sure that they aren't posting about it on FB before LE has a chance to process it. Yesterday the volunteer who found Charli's clothing had taken a photo of it (I don't think she touched it though) and posted it on FB, describing where it was found before LE arrived to process it. I believe the family is concerned that if evidence is found and the public is made aware of it's location before LE arrives, it's possible it could be moved or contaminated (either intentionally or unintentionally). Part of the problem is that if volunteers do find evidence, if they're relying on cell phones only to contact LE, they would very likely have to leave the evidence unattended to travel quite a ways to get reception to contact LE (or I assume just back to Haiku Community Center, which seems to be the volunteer command center). Previously, people were posting so much information on FB about what they were finding, using the MauiWatch page as a way to inform the family &/or LE - not a great idea.

It's hard to face the reality that ugliness exists even in the most beautiful places on earth.

I rejoice to see the goodness in humanity during such times of adversity - what an amazing outpouring of love, support, kindness & generosity!

Not sure if this is the kind of information you want or not, but they've moved tomorrow's search quite a ways from where they've been searching. Up until now, the search seems to have been focused between Keanae and Jaws, where they found her car. However, her dog was found all the way up in Nahiku. Tomorrow, the search will be starting in Hana at the Maui Invasive Species Base Yard.

What I understand from one of the volunteers I know is that LE isn't allowing the volunteer groups back into areas where evidence has been found, but are gridding it out and searching it themselves after - which makes sense. MPD did say they had found more evidence in addition to her clothing today, but didn't release what that evidence was (they really aren't releasing much information to the public at all, there's been no formal "press conference" or anything similar). One local media source reported duct tape was among the items found, and there was the earlier report of the blood-stained men's pants. No official report yet if either of those are related to the case. (Most people commenting on social media of course seem to conclude that they are. However, objectively, I'd like to point out that this area is frequented by local hunters and fishermen - either of those two items could just as easily be rubbish left behind by those groups). So, I'm not sure if the search is moving because they can't get into the other areas any longer or if there is another reason they are searching in another location (besides just wanting to expand the search area).

The search tomorrow will be much closer to where her dog, Nala, was found - completely clean (unusual if the dog was walking around in this area very far - it's a wet, muddy, rugged area) and unscathed.

I saw the headlines, and I have this terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach - that 'here we go again' feeling. It's just that there are so many cases with this same profile that just don't end well.

:(

Moving the search makes a lot of sense. I do think the SUV was the red herring to try to throw off LE. Whatever happened to Carly, most likely happened just after separating her from Nala who may have been very protective of Carly.

It does indeed sound like the vehicle was planted in that area. And the exfb's story is all over the place.

I've driven the road to Hana and you can't barely go more than 20 mph. It's extremely windy with lots of turns, many bridges, may turn outs to see the waterfalls along the ride.

If exbf lost her headlights, why did he continue on, considering that road is so dangerous and it was dark?

I also question how exbf got his car started if it stalled and wouldn't start to the point he called Carly and asked her for a ride back to it. Was she a mechanic?

Exbf's story sounds hokey. IMO

I hope she's found alive but her beloved dog being left one place, her car burned out in another, away from the direction she was going, and part of her clothing being found, it doesn't sound likely. I hope I'm wrong.

That's a big sign it was someone she knew, and most likely cared about the dog enough to let it go. A stranger psychopath type would have, more than likely, just killed her dog too...IF she has met with foul play.

Playing catch up here...

Were the clothes that were found by the sister (and inexplicably taken to LE) the same clothes in the photograph posted on MauiWatch yesterday? The blue blanket and black jacket with "rusty stains"?

And, the sweater and skirt found by the volunteers, were they found near where the other clothes were found?

TIA!!
