I have this nagging feeling that SC will cop a plea.

Having a rep from ATT and Verizon testify will be like a "can you hear me now" commercial. How can the two companies contradict each other when they run different networks?

Cop a plea? You mean admit to everybody that he killed them or some variant of that? Because right now he knows his world has spiraled down the drain.

I promised myself I would not participate in this forum anymore but it boogles my mind to see just how many people this guy affected with his bad decisions. Not only has he taken a daughter, sister, aunt, grand-baby, nephew, cousin and friend from nearly a dozen families, his idiot 🤬🤬🤬 almost smoked out an elderly woman and her family. What if that fire caught on and burned homes?

GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY! Convict him already.

Why would SC even tell a lie about getting a ride to work Monday morning? His "truck" was running, according to his interview with Loo. What was the point....did he figure he was so believable that LE wouldn't bother to check his story? He had nothing to gain, only to lose, from that lie.
Hope someone (hello, Pua) writes a book about these murders.

So true.
It appears that lying comes easy to him, but I do note that his former girlfriends, friends, and coworkers have not called that out as a habitual trait, more related to the crime time frame. But not sure if they were asked.

My theory on the lies involving his truck and supposedly needing help
and rides, where he planned to be, whether he had seen Charli, is still what I said last week. He never planned this story or planned to admit to seeing or being with Charli. He could have made something work if he had planned and put effort into it. As late as Monday night, he said he had not even seen Charli recently.

Tuesday morning he was surprised by the cops and put on the spot, and he grabbed the memory of the breakdown with Taylor from his brain. For some reason, he was at that point concerned that he had been seen or maybe remembered phone records and decided it was better to admit he was with her and out Hana way than to deny all and get placed with her and/or near the scene. And then he ran his mouth because that's what he does when he is nervous. Theory only.

Totally agreement, Pua. It's my opinion, too, that SC didn't plan his "alibi"/story and he runs at the mouth when nervous.

In March 2014, with $1,900 still owing, Pechin said he repossessed the vehicle from Capobianco, who drove it to Pechin's house. Pechin said he stored the 4Runner at his residence for "less than a week" before "the police took the vehicle for evidence." vehicle had been locked, except for the broken back window, which had a tarp and brick over it, Pechin said. He said items shown in a photograph of the console, including a piece of rope and red pepper spray canister, weren't his.
noted for myself.

Wailua Wayside Park, where Capobianco said he was picked up by the driver of the Toyota Corolla.
thank you!

VERY helpful new knowledge, with a presumably accurate time noted for the arson. We had thought the ForeRunner was not burned Sunday night because the area was searched after that, but we now know it was burned Sunday night, and really soon after the murder. This shortens the murder timeline down hugely.

If it takes about 1 hour to get from Haiku to Nua'ailua? I'd say he needed a bare minimum of 30 minutes to prep for the arson, including pulling parts and gas tank. So he would have from about 9:30--11:00 at Nua'ailua, 90 minutes. That is just not enough time to murder someone and do the type of dismembering described, and scatter the evidence as it was, IMHO, though it is enough to get a good start. Regardless, he had to have gone back there Monday and maybe Tuesday, because I am sure that Charli (in whole or part) was wrapped in that blanket afterwards, because decomp took place in the blanket or on it --but it was not blood soaked, was it? And then the blanket was on its own and had maybe been thrown in the stream at a later time.

The phone's last ping to the Life 360 app must have been just before he left to return to Haiku. Or they left, if he had assistance.
I do not see enough time there to drive to Nahiku.

Hana Highway drive time experts, what say you on the time he had?

I agree that he did not plan the alibi. No way. If he'd planned it, he wouldn't have been driving his 4Runner on Sunday, and he would have asked for a ride to work.

I still think that he thought he'd been spotted on the road that night, driving Charli's 4Runner with the distinctive grill lights. He mentioned the lights to the police, twice I think, and also to Kimberlyn Scott. He may or may not have thought of the phones giving him away after the fact. I also think that he thought if they never find Charli's body, he'd never be arrested. The police arriving at his house so soon after the murder surprised him.

Interesting that he burned Charli's 4Runner in the wee hours of Monday morning. He must've been torching it when Taylor "blew up" his phone.

I think he did some additional dirty work on Monday night. We'll see what the phone records show.

Agree, because we know he had stuff to do Monday per Kaisers, and we now know it was not the arson, so that leaves the crime scene. I would think he wanted to get out there before it got completely dark so that he could see. Given a 4 PM start time, and an hour drive, that's already dusk time in February, twilight. So he needed to get on it and not dilly dally.

Oh, and if Taylor was blowing up his phone and it was in service while he was torching, I wonder if will show a different cell tower from his home. I want the phone records now!

Cop a plea? You mean admit to everybody that he killed them or some variant of that? Because right now he knows his world has spiraled down the drain.
There's no advantage to him to plead out prior to the state putting all its cards on table and defense putting forward its case. No doubt there has been a plea offered to him, one that is not very favorable to him, and he is waiting to see how the trial goes, what kind of questions the jury asks, and so forth.

Not all plea deals include a confession. Some pleas are even nolo contendre, but other pleas, and I would hope this one, are simply Guilty. They don't have to provide everything they know or a detailed confession. They may hold out on that for leveraging some kind of favorable treatment while incarcerated. I want him to confess as much as everyone else here does, but I am afraid you will be disappointed if you expect that to happen.

Keep in mind that the prosecution is in this to get a conviction, secondarily closure for the family (sadly). They will make a deal if it can be done and the case feels at all shaky. I personally think the case is really solid at this point. Things like him interfering with the search in the area of the crime scene should weigh a lot, because clearly the area had not been searched well at that point, and there's only one reason for him to guard it from searchers. That point is not complicated.

Wonder why CK keep records of her skype sessions with SC?

I thought she reconstructed them shortly thereafter. It wasn't even a week later that Maui news was all over Steven as prime suspect, and her name was being talked about. She needed to know.

Gotcha, I was reading it that she did that daily through their relationship, for whatever reason. I think you're right that she went back after the fact and wrote it all down.

He said Capobianco contacted him a few times with car problems, and on one occasion, several months before Scott went missing, Knight brought Capobianco a spare tire out in Keʻanae in the middle of the night.

On that occasion, Knight said Capobianco had contacted him, asking him for help with his white Ford Ranger pickup truck. Knight said he drove with his girlfriend at the time to Capobianco’s grandfather’s house to pick up a spare tire before meeting up with him at a spot between the Bamboo Forest and Keʻanae.

By the time Knight arrived, he testified, it was well past midnight. “I unloaded the tire, talked for a quick second, saw what was going on, and hung out for a while while he (Capobianco) changed the tire,” said Knight.

According to Knight, Capobianco was with Taylor Farner, who was sleeping in the vehicle and did not get out of the truck. Knight said he left at around 2 a.m. to return home in Makawao.

According to Knight, both Capobianco and Capobianco’s grandfather owned White Ford Rangers, but the defendant’s vehicle was “a little more beat up” and had a “little bit of a lift” on it. “His grandfather kept his nice and cleaner,” said Knight.

----------------------------------

“He talked about how he has a bunch of free time, and that he’s not really going anywhere, so he had his truck pretty much cleaned up… He made it all pretty. Washed it. Vacuumed it,” said Knight.

When asked if he had ever seen the defendant with a clean 4Runner, Knight said, “Not that clean. He wasn’t exactly known for keeping his stuff clean or nice or organized.”

So happy to see both of the Maui news teams check in today with long, detailed articles. Mahalo nui to Lila Fujimoto with Maui News and Wendy Osher with Maui Now for their dedication and perseverance.

Kyle Knight's testimony, cont'd:
Did we just get a big clue about where Steven put C/J?
Kyle could smell death at Nua'ailua, and he was not down that dirt road from the way it is told in the article. He was on Hana Highway on his way to Nahiku. The spot where her jawbone pieces were found is not by the highway, and there was not enough flesh in the remains found there by police to send off a stench that would carry to the highway.

Link to the highway curve around the crime scene area.
https://goo.gl/maps/fCkmwTA4yeE2

The next day at dusk, Phaedra, Max, and Molly went down that dirt road and their noses were NOT assaulted by the smell, not from the highway, or driving down the road, or walking, until they got to the blanket, like right next to it. They were searching with their eyes and the ping.

But Max followed the stream towards the highway bridge and smelled decay. But thought the dead pig accounted for that. I'm thinking he was walking towards the source of decay smell that Kyle caught from the road.

So mini-timeline:
Day 1- Sunday - the murder. SC has maybe 90 minutes total in the area before he leaves for Haiku.
Day 2, Monday - no one is searching. SC rushes away from KK's house in Makawao at around 4 PM with stuff to do.
Day 3, Tuesday - Searching, Brooke and Phaedra pull in the road a short way. They don't smell anything. They find SC in his truck there. He has had some time alone but not a lot. Got out to Keanae maybe 4ish and showed "the spot" -- so not more than an hour. He leaves with the sisters for Haiku, and later goes back to Keanae with Adam, and supposedly goes home when he parts from Adam around midnight. Unknown after that.
Day 4, Wednesday - Kyle is out there afternoon and smells stench while driving by (I think). Others have smelled it too. Rappels down on his way back to Jaws late afternoon.
Day 5, Thursday - Phaedra, Max, Molly don't smell anything in the area near the clothes, except finding the blanket. Max walks towards bridge and smells decomp.
Day 6, Friday - MPD retrieves bones, fingertips, piercing, etc..
Day 7, Saturday - Officer Bonacorsi describes smelling rotting human flesh as they re-canvas the area. Shoes (flipflops) found.

OK, so given that decomp smell gets stronger as it develops. But no smell noted by Brooke and Phaedra Tuesday; then Wednesday it literally stops traffic. Then Thursday only noticeable in certain area. What transpired?

I lean towards -- I think the remains never recovered might have been wrapped up to transport, and possibly dropped over the side of the highway, one of those hard places to get to that he asked about? The blanket used in lieu of a tarp ... then taken and thrown in the stream with the clothes (his)? (Not sure why there is an extra set of men's clothes but there's been no talk of evidence from it.) If that had been done Tuesday, by Wednesday it would have been intense. Maybe he was counting on nature doing its work (or the wild pigs). I just wish the family could get her bones back.

I definitely think he believed he would not be convicted without a body found.
I still think he may have been interrupted or spooked while he was getting the identifier parts and presumably picking up the clothes.
He was bleaching his truck Thurs., and had not had her truck between Sun. night and then, so he may well have put some evidence in his truck to transport it, even a short distance.
