I believe its just an automated CC card atm style 24 hours. Ive used it after hours. They must have a record.

Ohhhh, interesting. Let's hope he did get gas there.
I would think, though, that Rivera would have presented that fact early on (if he did get gas) rather than letting Apo slowly but persistently work to inject "reasonable" doubt. That receipt, if there is one, would be an effective barrier to any doubt, imo.

Just throwing it out there....not trying to confuse things....From Hasegawa's in Hana...going the backside...to Haiku...in a Four Runner....at night no traffic...Fast. 2 hours? Yet he could do that back to Haiku I think as well on the east side. Ive been to Hana on my dirt bike in an hour and a half Kaupo way.

Well we know from eyewitness testimony that he was driving slow through the outskirts entering Hana-town, so that would imply he drove very slowly though any settlements but sped up crazy fast when he was out on open road. Maybe he was going through Hana because he was returning to Haiku via backside of island?

I just find it hard to fathom the schedule of events on Sunday night. He was working and driving very fast. Our definite anchors are:

8:15 PM: Steven leaves (acc. to Kupstas) and Charli leaves the family gathering
9:30 to 11:30 PM: Steven seen in Hana-town
11:20 PM: Steven back in Haiku (acc. to cellular data)
12:45 AM: People in neighborhood smelled chemical smoke from car burning at Jaws/Haiku

Anyone care to posit a detailed schedule of Sunday night based on these anchors?

The 11:20 pm text on 2/9 was consistant with being in the area of SC's residence. Is it consistant with being in other areas? Or did Easter narrow it to the residence?
Kapua?

I am really confused. How could he be back near his residence at 11:20 on Sunday night???

If "near his residence" includes Peahi "Jaws", I think it can be done. Let me check Google Maps again...

Hana Fire Station to Jaws -1 hour 41 min.

That puzzled me too. My notes say the two texts out between 11 and 12 are using the Hana Highway tower, and he is NOT home using his phone until the almost 2 AM time, which may be communication with Taylor Farner.

Who was he texting from out near the crime scene, not too long after Charli's phone's last ping? Was it someone in or around Hana?
I think the reporter may have gotten that one wrong, but it's also very possible I got it wrong. Very difficult testimony to follow. I want a linear accounting of most likely spots, but Apo would never allow that much clarity.

If I understood the testimony correctly, it cannot be narrowed to the residence, only to a "sector" like a wedge-shaped piece of pie. I didn't watch the entire clip; I was hugely busy yesterday and by the time I got home, I had neither the time nor the patience to watch Apo object to almost every question.

So until I get back to the video, I am going with my assumption that SC was at "Jaws" at 11:20, or on his way there.

Edited to say, I just read Pua's post, so maybe I need to review the testimony again before making any assumptions. LOL.

Understood! I'm sure Easter said which sector read the text, but I'm not about to watch the testimony/objections again.

Hopefully, there's a record of the transaction and a recording from their video camera. :D

Wouldn't that be the ace up the prosecution's sleeve?

But we don't yet know if he did go to Hana for gas.

Am I wrong in interpreting the cellphone analysis to indicate that one connection means he could be in the Haiku/Paia/Macawao sector OR the Keanae sector (therefore inconclusive)...while the other connection means he could ONLY be in the Haiku etc. sector? I know this might be too simplified...

I was wrong about the 11:20 text; it seems he is back using the main most popular sector. It is the text that is 9 something that is near the crime scene. I had to listen to it about four times, because he never really goes down the list in the methodical way I would like, and he always breaks it up with a "may be" or "could be."
Starting at about 27:00 and on he goes over the night of the 9th.

Yes, it is not that simple. And he keeps using the times when a person would sleep as additional leaning towards the residence -- which he should not be, IMO, because SC was NOT home sleeping when he should be during that period of time.

The 2G tower choice is pretty much a lock on him being out Hana Highway (not Haiku), because the phone will always pick 3G if it can, which it can on the west side of Haleakala. But he says it with a caveat anyway.

I finally got into the stream - Det. Nelson Hamilton is back on the stand.

And now...Keola Tom, a police sergeant from the Special Response Team. He also was in the Narcotics division for 5 years. He is testifying about the evidence searches in Nua'ailua. He is talking about the "cut marks" in the tree and, of course, Apo objected to the term "cut marks".

I can't find the stream on youtube and can only get audio, not video, on the Akaku page.
How'd you get in?

Did that policeman say they found a small Ace Hardware rewards card at the scene of the crime? He said he took an Ace card to Ace Hardware store and had them scan it but it didn't come up with a name. So perhaps SC bought the rolls of tape, zip-ties, etc. at Ace Hardware. I wonder if the police made sure to find out who was cashiering on Sunday and Monday and interviewed them about whether they'd seen SC?

OOOOH, more security cameras and register transactions! They can probably tie the transaction to the rewards card!

Good, so we can forget about him being back in Haiku at 11:20 PM.
lol, no, it means he would be back in range of the west facing tower
That pushes the time he was seen in Hana to the earlier part of the time frame window. I am working today though and cannot do a timeline right now.
