HI - Dr. Gerhardt Konig, 46, Allegedly pushed wife off trail, hit her in head with a rock, Pali Lookout, Oahu, 24 March 2025 *Arrest*

What a bizarre case on more than one level.

Speculation only: the marriage wasn't healthy, she had started to acknowledge the truth about him and wasn't happy being there, and he is the kind of man who wants to control his partner and won't "let" her leave him. Money might be a 2nd motive. My opinion only.

Wonder how large the accidental death insurance policy was...

I have a feeling we're going to find out this guy has some history, including that really dubious lawsuit.

I was surprised to read that, prior to moving to HI,
“Konig was an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh.” That seems like a pretty prestigious position and I’m curious about what would motivate him to give it up (besides being sick of winters in Western PA!).

Why do you think the lawsuit was dubious? Is enough information available to determine what actually happened and how?

I find it dubious because in all my years of living in my own place, houses, flats, apartments, never once have I had a contractor ask me to help them. Other than the time one guy put a nail through his hand with a nail gun and asked if I would drive him the ER. The contractors want you nowhere near them, in case something goes wrong. Liability. Just MOO, though.

It is a very strange lawsuit, and I hope we can read about their side of the story.

It would also be interesting to hear from his ex-wife, but we probably (understandably) won't.

We will never know, but there may have been some sort of reason that he left that position. Possibly involuntarily.

Speculating wildly- he had to leave his job for a substance abuse issue.

The Daily Mail has an article about his ex, but I'm not going to post it since she has nothing at all to do with this and there is no reason to sleuth her. Easy to find, though.

Unfortunately, they consider substance abuse an "illness". So, he would have been put in a diversion program for medical professionals. If he flunked out of that, his medical license would have been in trouble.

According to EMS, the woman suffered from serious head injuries and multiple facial injuries.

Officials state that the woman said she was assaulted with closed fists and an object.

The Hawaii Department of Lane and Natural Resources (DLNR) also closed the Nu’uanu Pali State Wayside due to police activity.

There are a couple Datelines where the wife was killed while hiking and being thrown over the side. They all died. So happy she survived.

The police/news outlets have not specified this yet. However, he practiced anesthesiology, so he likely would have had access to a number of substances that could incapacitate someone. Having those syringes along for the journey could make it more difficult for his defense, as they could imply premeditation. MOO.

Bbm.
Absolutely it could.
And tbh, I'm doubting very much that he did this because she didn't want to take a photo with him ?
Hmmm...
Wonder if she was leaving him and he found out ?
Hoping for her full recovery.
Omo.
