Dr. Gerhardt Konig, who was wanted for attempted murder and was on the run, has been arrested. His wife, who remains in critical condition at the hospital, was on a morning hike with Konig near the Pali Lookout when she refused to take a picture with Konig. Konig then allegedly attempted to poke her with two syringes, pushed her off the trail, and hit her in the head with a rock.

oh god..... I can see it now..
Long drawn out "not guilty plea" case......

This poor poor woman.... I so hope she recovers ok..physically. Goona take a lot more to recover emotionally.
Hope people come forward to say this guy was scum...rather than come out super shocked because he was such a great guy.
I hate him already. moo moo moomoomoooomoo moo moo

oh yeah... had to come back to add a question. And is there another woman?

What was in the syringes??
The police/news outlets have not specified this yet. However, he practiced anesthesiology, so he likely would have had access to a number of substances that could incapacitate someone. Having those syringes along for the journey could make it more difficult for his defense, as they could imply premeditation. MOO.

@Knitty On the off chance he was a "Forensic Files" fan, he might've chosen succinylcholine, which seems to appear in that show pretty frequently as the "drug of choice" for murderers with medical backgrounds (if I recall correctly, I think the drug is very commonly used in hospital settings, and has a short half-life which means it is hard to detect post-mortem and (at least in the past) wasn't a substance that most toxicology screens even looked for.

Succinylcholine?

@realanastasia Thx for your post & ref to Forensic Files episodes*

Yes, Succinylcholine, one possibility.

I Googled
---- imdb Forensic Files Succinylcholine ----
at least three episodes w sux. From there going to imdb.com, can likely stream any of them.

--- Succinylcholine criminal deaths ---
a lotta rabbit holes including medical journal articles. This one caught my attn.
"a special designed dart load with succinylcholine was ejected by crossbow for homicide." Yikes.

ATM I have not seen anything info re content of syringe. Seems early for test results.

Back to this victim in critical condition in the hospital.,

So this was not a remote hiking spot where he could be sure they were alone.

"Conveniently located just five miles from downtown Honolulu, the Nuʻuanu Pali Lookout is one of O'ahu’s top attractions. The drive up to the lookout is short yet scenic"

I wonder if there was a witness watching the whole thing, since the victim is in critical condition and, normally, someone in that state is unable to give details such as syringes, etc....

Also, he seems not to have left in his car, but by foot and was arrested in the area at sunset: "Around 6:45 p.m. Konig was arrested near Pali Highway following a brief foot pursuit."

So perhaps someone intervened: I hope she pulls through.

The search began at around 10:30 a.m. as police responded to a report of a male beating a female, and continued until Konig was located at around 6:10 p.m. near Nuʻuanu Pali Drive.
According to police, an investigation revealed that the victim, a 36-year-old female, reported that her husband attempted to push her off the trail and then struck her multiple times to her head with a rock. There were two witnesses who called 911 and assisted in the investigation.

When do we find out about the girlfriend?

moo

In the meantime.... this is who he reminds me of. Mr. Mayhem. moo.
