Pangelinan is of Guamanian ancestry. He is described as being 5’8” tall and weighs approximately 137 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes.

Pangelinan was last seen wearing a teal T-shirt, khaki shorts, and black slippers. He had on glasses, a black watch, and a dark-colored camouflage baseball cap.

"CrimeStoppers and the Honolulu Police Department are still seeking the public’s assistance in locating Francisco Pangelinan, who suffers from Dementia. On Monday, May 15, 2023, at about 3:00 p.m., Francisco was captured on video surveillance crossing Kapolei Parkway from the Home Depot to the Costco parking lot. He then crossed Kalaeloa Boulevard toward the Star Advertiser Building then unknown from there. His family and friends are concerned for his safety and well-being.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300. The public may now send anonymous web tips to www.honolulucrimestoppers.org or via the P3 Tips app."

"Pangelinan’s daughter says he is a U.S. Army veteran and suffers from early onset dementia so they put a tracker on his vehicle and recently added one to his wallet.

“We discovered that he had taken the tracking device out of his wallet and left it in his car. So we have no way of tracking from here,” Arde said."

"Family members said Pangelinan arrived at the third entrance of the Home Depot parking lot at 2:41 pm on Monday, May 15.

Video footage showed him exiting the hardware store through the garden center and looking for his car. When he couldn’t find the vehicle he then crossed the street.

The family did a drone search of the Ko Olina area on Saturday, in case Pangelinan may have headed toward the railroad tracks past Kapolei Commons. The search was conducted going west into Ko Olina and Nanakuli.

Individual searches were done in the brush behind Costco and by car through Kapolei and Barber’s Point.

Homeless shelters in Barber’s Point were revisited as well said Pangelinan’s family."

HONOLULU (KITV4) -- May 31 marks 16 days since an Oahu man with dementia went missing. Francisco Pangelinan, 85, was first reported missing by his family on May 15.

Police say Pangelinan was seen on surveillance video crossing Kapolei Parkway from Home Depot to the Costco Parking Lot. He then crossed Kalaeloa Boulevard and was last seen heading towards the Honolulu Star-Advertiser building.

This family did everything right. Unfortunately, people with dementia overestimate their own competency and will work against efforts to contain or track them.

Another man with dementia, William "Bill" Burr, is missing in Oahu. There is a statement from the Frank Pangelinan's family included in an article about Bill Burr.

Pangelininan’s family released a statement to KHON2 on Friday, Oct. 6 that can be read in full below.

Update on Missing Person Francisco (Frank) Pangelinan — Friday, October 6, 2023

My Dad, Frank Pangelinan, an 86-year old Ewa Beach retired Army veteran with over 30 years of service, has been missing since May 15, 2023.

He left his home mid-afternoon and drove to Home Depot in Kapolei. As seen on video footage, Dad exited the store on the opposite end from where he parked and looked for his car, but could not find it. He appears to have gotten disoriented and crossed the street to the Costco parking lot, then crossed the street again towards the Star Advertiser building. The video footage ends there. None of the neighboring businesses had any additional video footage, so we have no idea what happened to Dad — we don’t know which direction he went, whether someone gave him a ride, whether foul play was involved, whether he tried to walk home and got lost once it turned dark — it’s as if he just vanished into thin air.

Helicopter and ATV searches were conducted, but Dad was not found. Family, friends, neighbors and complete strangers drove around looking for Dad and also conducted searches on foot through Kapolei, Barber’s Point and Ewa Beach. A couple of group searches were conducted on the West side and in Honolulu. Flyers were posted all over the island.

All leads and sightings led nowhere and have diminished drastically over the months. We don’t know what else to do or where else to look for Dad. We implore the public to please keep an eye out for him and to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at (808) 955-8300 if they see him.

Our family is desperate to find Dad. We love and miss him so much and just want him to come back home safe and sound. Thank you to all for continuing to keep an eye out for Dad. We are forever grateful for your support, kind words and prayers.

Thank you,

PATRICIA ARDE AND FAMILY
