Man, 30, reported missing near Cape Kumukahi

According to authorities, Mahoe was last seen between noon-2 p.m. Thursday, climbing down a cliff face where he was picking opihi. Mahoe’s all-terrain vehicle was found 200 feet from the area he was last seen. His family was also camping close by.

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for an opihi picker reported missing off Hilo.

Thirty-year-old Peter Mahoe was last seen Thursday afternoon climbing down a cliff face where he was picking opihi near Cape Kumukahi...

The search was called off Sunday night after searching more than 1,400 square miles from the air and on the water, with help from the county fire department.

Mahoe disappeared on May 29, 2014, in the area of the Cape Kumukahi Light House on Hawaiʻi Island . Information provided to the Maui Police Department from a concerned citizen indicates that Mahoe may have been seen in the Lahaina and Kahului areas as recently as two weeks ago.
