1/13/23 Tuesday, Trial Day 4: State witnesses: former Honolulu Medical Examiner Dr. Christopher Happy. Makana Boinville Emery, Telma's daughter. Kevin Emery, Telma's husband. Wrapping up their case, prosecutors showed surveillance from the Mililani Walmart store. It showed Dandurand buying an untraceable mobile phone, apparently still thinking they would somehow escape the crowd of police & civilians that waited for them outside. The prosecutor rested his case at the end of the day. The defense will start calling witnesses on Tuesday, 1/17/23.

The defense in a North Shore murder case presented its case this morning with just one witness — the defendant himself — accused of killing and kidnapping 51-year-old Telma Boinville and kidnapping her 8-year-old daughter in 2017.

Stephen Brown testified that it was his then-girlfriend, Hailey Dandurand, then 20 years old, who killed Boinville Dec. 7, 2017, although he admitted to helping with tying up both mother and daughter.

He said Boinville confronted the pair, who broke into an unoccupied vacation rental, and that when Dandurand told her to lie on the floor, she complied and he helped tie her up with rope from their camping gear.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Stephen Brown was found guilty of all charges in the brutal 2017 killing of North Shore mother Telma Boinville and the kidnapping of her then 8-year-old daughter.

After deliberating for less than a day, the jury in the murder trial of Brown handed down its verdict on Friday, Jan. 20.

Brown was found guilty of murder in the second degree, two counts of kidnapping and burglary in the first degree.



It does not have a sentencing date - and the court site is down for maintenance right now - so will check on this later.

After deliberating for less than a day the jury in the murder trial of Brown handed down its verdict on Friday, Jan. 20. Brown was found guilty of murder in the 2nd degree, 2 counts of kidnapping & burglary in the 1st degree. State requested defendant be committed without bail pending sentencing & presented argument. Defense objected & presented argument. Court granted & will commit defendant without bail.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A jury is now deciding whether North Shore killer Stephen Brown will spend the rest of his life in prison or will get a chance of parole.

The jury last week found Brown guilty in the brutal murder of Telma Boinville.

His attorney says he’s a changed man and has become a born-again Christian.

But prosecutors say he’s still a danger to the public and should remain locked up.

“Surely whatever religious beliefs he now subscribes to were absent the day he buried a machete in Telma’s skull,” said Deputy Prosecutor Scott Bell.

The jury will continue deliberating Tuesday [1/24/23].
