HODGE-PODGE - LISK-related

  • #721
I don't know where else to put this, it's a bit of a rant, but I feel like something needs to be done to protect sex workers in this country. I watched a documentary yesterday that featured a sex worker that was rigidly controlled by a pimp. She was arrested 50 times and not once did someone ask her if she was being forced to sell herself by someone else (i.e. a pimp, human trafficking, etc.)

I know there are many women that choose this lifestyle for the money or to support a habit, but many don't. Their lives and family's lives are threatened, etc. It seems incomprehensible that there is not a common protocol to follow when a sex worker is arrested that could ascertain whether or not they chose this lifestyle or they just happen to be caught up in it. Maybe they want out? Maybe they are working against their will? It is as if our justice system sees them as lesser people just because of what they are doing. They are HUMAN BEINGS!!! Many have been physically abused, brainwashed, mentally abused, drugged, etc. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I am just outraged at how our society treats this marginalized sect of women.

Well said

Just thinking out loud... Long haul trucker, refridgerated truck, picks up seafood out of MA (New Bedford), delivers to restaurant on LI. Keeps bodies in the truck frozen, and proceeds to cut them like a butcher. Changes MO when he loses job with refridgerated truck.

That theory is as good as the others. Or goes from refrigerated truck to regular trailor.

A young teen was forced into prostitution on her way to and from school everyday. Pimp said he would kill her family if she told anyone. Pimp talked about her sister joining them. She told her teacher what was going on. LE relocated the family. Then the arrest were made.

Legalize it??? I strongly disagree. Legalization will not change the mindset of a predator. It would only make it easier for the predator to operate.

Leanne has mentioned the possible connection to the New Bedford homicides -- is there anything public about why?

I think she meant to protect the girls from pimps. If it were legal pimps wouldn't have jobs and wouldn't be killing, beating the crap out of and forcing girls into prostitution.

That wont stop them.

First posting & not sure exactly how/where it's done... but "LISK Hodge Podge" seemed appropriate. After looking at the "last sighting" timelines for the Gilgo Beach 4 & Shannan ('07, '09 & '10 respectively)… Does anyone know of NYC / NYC adjacent escorts / sex workers who went missing in 2008, with their last call/ties being that of Long Island? (Or might someone point me to the thread with this info?) Thanks!

There are individual missing person threads here. There are not missing "escort" threads here. Is that what you are asking?

But wouldn't it be more regulated and the women looked after better?

Dee, thanks for knowing me well enough to curb my foot in mouth.

Appreciate the reply! I'll try to clarify… I'm wondering if there are LISK threads that have looked into others (resembling the Gilgo Beach 4) that went missing in 2008? I can imagine someone here saw the timeline of GB4 disappearances ('07, '09 & '10), saw that 2008 was "quiet", and researched missing persons within that year/time period, with similar profiles and even perhaps "last eyewitness" accounts as the GB4… Basically, other potential LISK victims yet to be discovered. (Hope that makes more sense…?) Thanks.

I have a side project I'm working on. (not complete yet, but getting close).

I feel that there is a bunch of missing women from NYC and the surrounding areas that are not reported. How could they be? Nobody knows. If I'm right in my calculations, it will be astonishing.

I'm starting to get some real data to back it up. As soon as I get some real concrete data I might need help on what to do with it after that.

Also, cases possibly of interest to LISK, if that helps

I'm so glad she and her sister are out of that dangerous world. I don't judge or look down on prostitutes--especially not the ones that are doing on their own volition, but it is tragic to me how many women are pulled into this lifestyle with little to any say in it. I had no idea how prevalent that was.

I naively thought the sex worker sought out the pimp to get started. How blind I was to the way some parts of this industry operate!

Great news regarding the back page shut down! I wonder what will happen? Will sex workers go back to the streets to find johns or will another site inevitably pop up?
