Holly Bobo found deceased, discussion thread *Arrests* #8

OBE (and others as well) good to see you back. This case is the first major case I followed after joining WS. I remember being so overwhelmed with all the initials! Didn't understand why and then when the "A Train" was being discussed with no explanation that was crazy. A POI had not been named as yet so this thread to me was like a riddle. I had to get a cheat sheet and go to another site local to the crime to get the jist of WTH was going on.

JA's lawyer just said in court that he has stated to the judge there will be no need for a trial date. Sounds like a plea deal is imminent for JA.

The court denied the motion to recuse and stated he has always encouraged both parties to negotiate in good faith and ex parte discussions did not occur.

Side Bar went to chambers. In te interim the details may be cloudy. If someone has a moment to catch us up as to who the major players are, attorneys, profiler, judge, etc and what the strategy seems to be that ight be helpful to us less fortunate with those understandings...

Hearing Underway In Holly Bobo Murder Case

A status hearing has gotten underway in the case of three men charged with killing a 20-year-old nursing student in rural Tennessee.

An attorney for Zach Adams requested that the judge recuse himself; however, McGinley said "there is unequivocally no conflict of interest in this case."

Lawyers for Autry said he would not be needing a trial date - indicating he may have taken a plea deal, as NewsChannel 5 reported Monday.

From WSMV:

Suspect in Holly Bobo murder case plans on making plea deal

DECATURVILLE, TN (WSMV)

One of the suspects in the Holly Bobo case says he will not go to trial and plans to take a plea deal instead.

On Monday, Channel 4 obtained a copy of a motion that hinted at the possibility of a plea deal.

In court on Wednesday, the attorney for co-defendant Jason Autry confirmed he intends to make a deal.

BIG NEWS COMING?

Plea deal certainly infers one defendant testifying against another.

 Hi Steve,

RBBM: Yep ... this is absolutely BIG NEWS !

And I agree that it infers one defendant testifying against another defendant ... or ... could it be that JA is afraid of the "needle" or the "electric chair" ?

"And I agree that it infers one defendant testifying against another defendant ... or ... could it be that JA is afraid of the "needle" or the "electric chair"?"

I don't think that's an either-or question. The motivation for a plea is typically one of self-interest, not of some altruistic quest for justice or an attempt to find salve for guilt, and in exchange for a negotiated-and-reduced sentence, a good prosecutor will demand a truthful tell-all in court vs any and all other defendants. I'd expect no less in this case, with JA's reduced sentencing coming later, and contingent on how he testifies (ie, "fully candid and truthful" in relation to whatever proffer that was made, or not).

Hopefully Jason Autry was video taped telling all just in case he meets his fate while waiting to testify.

I am lead to believe the statements made by SA were used in this hearing because of the attempt to get his lawyer onto the ZA team.

.....Or was there another purpose for his statements being used today that I missed?

  • #179
I never felt the Judge would recuse himself and that he was only giving good advice since he has seen and heard all that has been presented. I had to chuckle when I read where someone said just because the Judge said this case is top priority it will be an appellate issue. LOL! Nope, the Judge was right, and death penalty cases that are coming to trial soon are always placed as top priority as they should be.

I am sure JA was asked to take a polygraph to make sure his statements were credible this time. Its humorous in a way since he liked to talk like he was so big and bad. The thoughts of the death penalty and strapped to a gurney one day has a way of changing how tough some really are.

From the way the Judge talked why ZAs kidnapped Holly is even more heinous than we thought. Imo, he didn't kidnap her to steal money from a young college woman who had no job. I have said all along the main motive for kidnapping her was to brutally rape her repeatedly and let anyone else rape her who wanted to come over and do so. It takes my breath away to even begin to imagine all of the pain and suffering Holly went through before she was murdered. Real life and death can be so much worse than the worst horror movie.

As far as Holly's body being dumped in the river that part could be true and he discarded her head/skull at the sight it was found. I dont put anything past ZAs and I feel he easily could have decapitated her before throwing her body in the river.

It will be brutal for Holly's family to finally to hear the actual truth as to why Holly was kidnapped, raped, beaten, and murdered but at least they will know what happened and why.

Now what will be interesting is to see if the ADA will plea the other two cases and if will be LWOP or nothing. Perhaps she will so the family wont have to endure two trials while having to look at the sub-humans who tortured and murdered Holly.

It will also be interesting if JA confirms a video was taken during the time Holly was chained, tortured, and raped repeatedly before she was killed. Perhaps he knows who still has a copy of such video. If so, that certainly would make the Judge give the sound advice that ZAs needs to do a plea deal and not go to trial.

I have a gut feeling that ZAs is going to trial. Of all of the murderers we have seen discussed over the years here at WS I believe he truly is one of the most evil ever.

I also believe he is a psychopath and will get a sick satisfaction in seeing Holly's family/friends agonize over the testimony they are going to hear in the trial.

So many have opted for a trial even though the evidence against them was overwhelming. I thought for sure Joseph Duncan would plea since he knew the Federal Prosecutor had the video tape of him repeatedly raping and torturing Dylan and Shasta for weeks on end and even showed Dylan's little body being pulled over the fire pit after he had murdered him. Yet he went to trial. I think it is some sick way of them thinking they still have total control over the victims and/or their families.:(
