Yahoo! Good news indeed. Sounds like she was respected by her captors. I hope she writes a book. I heard a friend of her on Good Morning America say that after she hugged Jill, she'd tell her to grab her surfboard and they'd hit the waves. I hadn't heard Jill liked surfing. Awesome start to the day! :woohoo:

I am curious to why they did let her go. I think it is great news but these people seem to stick by there guns when they threaten to kill someone. I am so glad that she is safe

I think this is great news I DO NOT however think that terroists have a heart I just think she no longer served their needs.
Whatever the reason its nice that she was freed.

I think that the terrorists were paid money for her release, and that's what they were after all along. All of the terrorist organizations need money to fund their on-going terrorist activities.

I hope that all civilians who have not left the area realize that they all have a big target on their backs.

Jeana, I'm glad you wrote this because I was thinking the same thing this morning when I heard it on the news. I hope once she's back on American soil, she stays put!!!

I'm glad the woman is safe however I believe that she was in on the whole thing. She went there to advocate for the Iraqi people.

From what she said in an interview today she is hostile towards the American government and an advocate for the terroists. Remember the German hostage who was later found with some of the ransom money in her possession and the Japanese "hostages". These are peace activists who volunteer to be "kidnapped" to help their terroists friends get money to continue blowing up people.

Why is she still wearing that muslim headress? And what about her ridiculous statements that her captores treated her well? Treated her well? What was all of that crying, pleading and whimpering about then? Was that all an act? She sure seemed worried about losing her head in those videos. Treated her well? Well considering her translator was murdered (and she has nothing to say about that) I guess by comparison she was treated well. By the way, the man was a Christian Iraqi and had a family including children. I'm glad they treated her well and gave her good food, nice furniture and clothing. How nice.

However supposedly she was held against her will for months while her family was terrorized. Treated her well? Well she said they didn't slap her but they threatened to kill her several times. I guess it's all a matter of perception.

I don't think that this woman is innocent but most likely a useful idiot. Even terrorists have hearts? Oh please. Have you seen the beheading videos?

Personally, I'll vomit if she writes a book.

Sherlockmom

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks this! When I heard she was released I was overjoyed, expecting to hear a rescue story like last week. When I heard her statement, I got the exact same feeling I did when I heard the first story from the "runaway bride" - my BS meter started going "CLANG! CLANG! CLANG"

God forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think she helped plan this too. I feel so sorry for her friends and family.

Sherlockmom and angelmom, I think the same as you. When I saw her interview yesterday and she was singing the praises of her captors, how well she had been treated and wearing the burka; I thought it was quite strange, and figured she had somehow been in on it from the start.
That said, I'm glad she's safe and her family can stop worrying.

I agree. I don't think she was in on it but she is beginning to annoy me. If she keeps it up she may find a backlash from the American public when she gets home.

I hope I'm wrong for her family's sake. I've read a few of her writings before she was kidnapped and her thoughts now are not that much different from her thoughts then. I think we'll see once she gets safely back to the states how she acts. If she gets rid of her muslim clothing, condemns her kidnappers and talks differently I think we can assume that I was wrong. If she goes on the news shows and is still spouting terrorist propaganda and wearing her head scarf I think we'll have our answer.

I feel sorry for the man that was killed during her capture. She hasn't mentioned a thing about him. I do not understand how she can speak so glowingly of her kidnappers when they killed this man in cold blood.

I had a feeling from the beginning that this was a staged kidnapping because of the reasons why she was in Iraq, her previous writings and the fact that they didn't kill her after the first deadline passed and then several more. I think things were getting too hot. Other hostages had been freed in the past days and we had been cracking down in hot spots throughout Iraq. I don't think they wanted to get caught with her so let her go. Or their demands were met. I hope not because if so, if anyone appeased them and met their demands it will assure that more are kidnapped and more will die.

If staged what a horrible selfish thing to put your family and friends through. And it hardly would make her any kind of journalist.

Hi Sherlock mom! I considered the possibility of her staging the kidnapping as well, but put it out of my mind. I couldn't imagine anyone doing that to their friends and family. I think there is a good possibility that you are correct about it though. I hope we are both wrong on this, but like you said above, we'll have to wait and see what her actions are once she's back on American soil.

I'm also bothered that she hasn't mentioned anything about the murder of her translator. Unless she's just waiting until she is actually in American custody. I really don't know what to think about this.

What an unfortunate name:

NEW YORK — Jill Carroll's kidnappers reportedly warned her before her release that she might be killed if she cooperated with the Americans or went to the Green Zone, saying it was infiltrated by insurgents.

The freelance writer for The Christian Science Monitor, who was freed by her captors Thursday and dropped off at a branch office of the Iraqi Islamic Party, was later escorted to the Green Zone by the U.S. military, the newspaper said Friday.

At first, she was reluctant to go, but a Monitor writer in Baghdad, Scott Peterson, convinced her it was safe, the newspaper said.

Great Link Jeana, thanks!

She did go over as a peace activist so I'm sure she still has some sense of pity for the way many children and women are living but I don't get the feeling all that language was her own. Hopefully once back in the US and with her family we'll hear the truth.
