I am curious if there is a method to the madness.

Do folks come to make suggestions for matches from memory? As in, when reading a case of an unidentified person, you recall cases of missing people that you have come across before that shares similarities, and vice versa? Or are there strategies for doing this?

I ask because there are just so many cases, unfortunately, so I am very impressed if folks have all these cases imprinted to memory to be able to recall them to try to match them up! Certainly there are cases that stick in my mind, but my memory is rather poor, so I hope there is some strategy to doing this because I would very much like to be able to help in some way or another.

I'm sure narrowing down geographic locations must help, but then, humans often travel! So perhaps an unidentified person found in one region could actually be from halfway across the globe!

I'd love to know how you all try to match up cases to give people their names' back or tell peoples' stories that were lost, if you have any pointers or advice.

Thank you all for helping people, you should all be very proud of yourselves!

I wanted to add:

Is there some way to help not so much as a researcher/investigator, but moreso by helping those sorts of people with more of the grindwork?

For example, if someone else was researching a case trying to make matches, let's say if they could use someone to fill out forms or charts, spreadsheets, send out email inquiries, things along those lines that might be more dull than putting on an investigator hat but still needs to get done to complete the task!

Apologies if this is all nonsense, I just assume that many people are doing the investigating and maybe some of us might be of more help assisting those people instead, just as an idea.

Also, for my original question, I'm perfectly okay being redirected to previous threads that have asked the same question, I'm just not quite used to the layout here yet

@space_dinos , welcome aboard!! I have been here 11 years, and I have the same questions!! I don't really do much more than read about the cases listed here and once in a great while add a thought or two to a thread. My memory is horrible due to chemo brain from cancer treatments, so I'm with you on memory problems. One of the mods, @MadMcGoo , created a thread you might be interested in, which I will try to link in another post. JMO MOO.
