How is the Defense Spending the Taxpayer's Money?

  • #121
The defense seems to have made the leap that all TES searchers are witnesses for purposes of invoices/billing. This seems a bit misleading to me, especially if they appear on no witness list.

With the long, long, long list of "no one home", "no one lives there", "home is gutted". He's not a very good PI. It would have been easier for JB to place an ad in the paper asking for anyone with information please call his office. And cheaper, too.

He is terribly ineffective. He called both my son and me and left each of us voicemails re the TES stuff and said he'd be calling back in the near future. That was weeks and weeks ago ~ We haven't heard from anyone on the defense team since.

But he does seem very effective in submitting his bills for payment. . . :D

ETA: What was I thinking? It wasn't him who called us; it was another male PI. (I guess I just lump "them" all together in the same sack.) So we know there were at least 3 PIs calling. Where are the others' bills? Yuk, I feel so embarrassed. It must be time for a Blue Moon! Maybe it will improve my thought process. :D

He lives approx 2 hrs from Orlando. That would be a 4 hr drive both to and from. You can't tell me he was driving all those days back and forth.

I'm wondering if he isn't trying to charge the JAC for hotel rooms. Also, he was not the one that called me, it was the woman. I don't think she did that for free.

I have to give all of you who actually could read this kudos. My blood pressure went sky high reading the crap Lyons was charging. What arrogance this man has ... fits right in there with JB and crew. :trout:

Funny how the money this team received ($275,000) prior to ICA being declared indigent was not spent on depos, investigations and such. As soon as ICA was declared indigent, the team had their noses to the grindstone, spending state money. Also trying to spend the same amount the State has to spend. I don't think Baez and his team get the wrongs they've done. It's all par for the couse and goes along with the looooong eight years Baez was held back from gaining his license, unethical, financial mishandlings and such. Baez is not doing himself any good. No one would want his representation should they need it. They would run fast...I do hope when this case is done and over, Baez comes under fire for the many things he's done that goes against his being and "officer of the court". Bringing contraband into ICA is certainly high on my list, along with the boldfaced lies..just color me jaded :innocent: JMHO

Justice for Caylee

Totally agree. It is simply shameful the Florida Bar allowed him to practice. Hope someone in charge of those things looks into it. He is simply not fit to practice and the Bar needs to be made to understand that if they don't already, by the citizens of FL.

I feel the same about this nonsense about trying to get all the evidence thrown out. Shouldn't this have been done long ago? They're planning on this eating up over a month, when there are only 5 months till trial. Unbelievable.

Foolishly.

I have been wondering about that too. I know the name of the woman who called me and the name of the woman who called a friend of mine. I know some of you here talked about who called you, and it seems like there were at least 4 different people making calls, besides Lyons. I wonder who paid them. the woman who called me was a PI but the woman who called my friend was an Attorney from the Palm Beach area and I am sure her rates werent cheap!

If Lyons calls are counted as investigative hours then the others should be too which puts the defense way, way over the top on allowable hours and in violation of the ruling that said only ONE in state investigator! How do they get around that? I think they called people for 4 days total over a 2 week time period.

"30-Aug-10

Go to OCSO Sector 2 for information. Go to OCSO Headquarters for information. Review and provide updated witness list to Attorney. Attempt to interview witness. Not home. Go to HOE for information. Speak with OCPS Legal Division. Interview witness. Attempt to interview witness. Meet with other investigator.

12.5 (hours)

Picking up information is task for a runner/courier. Lack of detail, need to know how many pages were reviewed and more detail as to what HOE is."

What other investigator?

And what is HOE?

So I've calculated $5100.00 for TES calls and attempts to contact TES witnesses, so 127.5 wasted hours!

Yep, Lyons' billings of $5,100 for the TES volunteers' efforts must be only the tip of the iceberg. What's going on?

You know it seems to me when reading the billing that Lyons could save a lot of time and JAC money if he simply called witnesses he wanted to talk to beforehand and set up a suitable time. Is there any reason it would be necessary for him to turn up uninvited and unexpectedly on their doorstep?

Intimidation?

Yes, the one that called you was the one that called me and left a message on hubby's cell. I also noticed PI Lyons was at the courthouse for 10 hrs one day. Maybe I read that wrong, but I thought the courthouse was open from 8-5. That's 9 hrs and didn't they break for lunch?

And...all that driving around...you know how far it is to Deland from Orlando and what the gas prices are here. I could almost bet you he is padding those invoices to cover those expenses among others.

http://www.docstoc.com/docs/6772692...s-of-Investigtion-and-Prior-Travel-of-Experts

From the Dec 20, 2010 signed order by Judge Perry:

Defense counsel shall coordinate with JAC to ensure that the past and future billings submitted for investigative services are in compliance with JAC's policies and procedures as to the approved rates and type of services that the investigator may bill for. Defense counsel is reminded that there are certain services that may not be paid for by JAC.

I hear that Baez has demanded the JAC purchase Geraldo's yacht for him, strictly for investigational purposes...:innocent:

Thank you, Sun!! I *knew* Judge Perry had said something about this. He's on to Baez like white on rice.

RBBM, Sparky. Good catch!

$5100 is more than enough to pay for a hotel room, gas, food and the people that helped him make the calls.

  • #137
OK I am sorry, but reading through those invoices has infuriated me. What is wrong with these people? Now I am not a Casey fan, but her life is on the line and they insist on playing a 'not so straight' game in regards to her defense. I so wish she had someone else handling her case, this is just wrong.

Ya think? I am not sure any other PI (or attorney as one poster says called) would be willing to work for less than the $40 per hour wage that the JAC pays. And I can't believe, either, that Lyons would be willing to share his cut. moo.

Page 11 of exhibits, 8.7 hour defense team meeting??? The day after the Kronk deposition?

2010.07.30 - 08.01 Today's Current News - ***NO DISCUSSIONS HERE PLEASE *** - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Red Flag!!! Then the following week he's billing for the David Lohr affidavit & interview, I guess it was time to go to plan Z!

And, Baez met with Casey in the jail from 18:51 to 20:39 on 7/30. Also meeting with Casey for part of that time was Jeanene Barrett, Richard Gabriel, and Dorothy Sims.

Yes, Judge Perry has caught Baez red-handed not complying with JAC policies. Caught red-handed approving for types of services/hours that are outside the JAC policies for "investigators." At least that's how I see this.
