The Irvine fire was arson. Started in 3 places at once.

Can you believe that??? Ugh, that makes me so angry!! What is wrong with people???

The smoke is pretty bad down here. I could barely sleep last night. Partly because I'm a nervous Nelly right now and also because the wind would pick up and just howl every couple of hours. I forgot to close two of my windows so my master bath is covered in soot and the upstairs bedroom, where I feed my cats is covered in soot. Not to mention it blew the door shut and my kitties had no access to their litterbox, so someone went potty on a bathroom rug!!

I hope your house is OK, Bubble.

New fire in Lake Arrowhead
My car is full of ash and I have been up since 3 with headache and sore ash throat.

The Witch Creek Fire split into 2 heads overnight and is devastating central San Diego County. News crews say it could be worse than the 2003 Cedar Fire because Santa Ana high wind conditions are expected to last 2-3 days rather than the 18 hours of four years ago.

The southern flank has overcome neighborhoods in Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Penasquitos and eastern Rancho Santa Fe, jumping I-15 which is now closed between Deer Springs Road north of Escondido and Hwy. 52. The northern flank is threatening the Wild Animal Park and southern Escondido (San Pasqual area).

In the meantime, two fires have sprung up in San Marcos, including one directly behind Cal State San Marcos. The fire in San Elijo hills is growing and burning towards the coast in Leucadia/Encinitas and southern Carlsbad. Another fire is burning in Fallbrook.

Schools are closed all over San Diego County, including my own children. They are going through their things in case we have to evacuate, but I don't think we're in any immediate danger. I'm gathering together photos, important papers and jewelry on my bed, but I live in an urban area that isn't surrounded by high brush and hope we'll be safe.

For all of my fellow Websleuthers in the county, God watch over and bless you. This is so scary.

Hang in there CaliKid. I hope you don't have to evacuate and the fires stay far from you. I can't believe Poway and Rancho Bernardo are getting hit. Didn't they get hit pretty bad in 2003? Scripps Ranch area?

Rancho Santa Fe is beautiful. It's my dream area.

I feel your pain Jbean. I have a massive sore throat today. Yesterday and into the night, I had a pretty heavy duty migraine. Luckily, that has subsided.

My car has ashes inside?? How did that happen? Throught the vents?

I'm at work right now and can barely see the hill across the 5 fwy from me.

I love Rancho Santa Fe but would never live there because the high fire danger (and of course is way beyond my financial means).

Yes, this is pretty much the same area as the Cedar Fire four years ago. Video on the news show streets of burning homes. Scripps Ranch is also under mandatory evacuation.

Fourteen people are in the hospital, seven in the burn unit, including four firefighters in critical condition. Their firetruck was overcome yesterday and became trapped.

Just talked to the aunt of my friends in Ramona. Things look pretty bad for them. They have their horses and animals safely transported to friends. The wife is staying with her mother as she cannot take the chance of breathing in this air. She is young and went through terrible health problems when she was even younger and had a double lung transplant.
Her dh is at the house trying to get some valuables but their home is directly in the path and they are preparing for the worst.

It's that water that falls out of the sky in like February

Haha...silly me to suggest that it would rain any other month.

I have lived in So Cal twice in my life and I do know it rains at other times than just January and February.

YOu work in MV right? I am in SJC and it is pretty bad down here as well.

Calikid.I do not need to evacuate. I am only bothered by the residual smoke and air. I am in no danger at the current time. I am a good 15 minutes south of Irvine.
Winds are picking up in the canyons to 60-80 mph.

90 acres burning in Lake Arrowhead. Voluntary and mandatory evacs in effect

Yeah, and I can see up the 5 freeway (in a more Northwest direction), but I can't see the fire in Irvine. The smoke is worse here than in Laguna Niguel (where I live), but the winds along the coast are worse than they are here.

My office is off Junipero Serra and it is windy and gray skies here.

I hope all the WSers in California stay safe. We're all thinking of you! :blowkiss:

I started a thread on the SO CA fires..........at least 8 now is San Diego County. Does anyone know what we could get these merged???

My BEST friend for the last 45 years....Vonnie and both of her daughters and their families were evacuated from San Elijo Hills at 3:30 last nite. Vonnie lives in a Condo.....her girls have big houses there. Jeeze........

San Elijo is between San Marcos.....and lets say Encinitas on the coast.
I finally got hold of her daughter and found out where she was. She's 79....and I was worried!

Please.....we need to merge the Fire threads.
I don't know ho!

xxxxoooo
mama:blowkiss:

I'm glad your friend is ok, Mama.

One of my best friends lives in Highland near San Bernadino. I have not heard from her.Do you know if they are being hit? Last year she was very close to having to evacuate. I think Lake Arrowhead is near her.
Praying for all of you guys out there and hope a miracle happens and the winds die down.
Stay safe.

One of our posters here is in Escondido and she said it was moving fast.

Highland is the last flatland city at the base of the mountain to Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear. She is probably ok for now.
ETA: also she is a good place to get plenty of advance notice and has access to major freeways.

Hello everyone, I have a question and if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

My daughter is on vacation in Malibu and staying with her friend, who just moved out there in June. She called me yesterday to tell me about the fires. I was not at home and had no access to news. When I got home last night, I really didn't see much on the news about the magnitude of these fires.

This morning, I came on here and saw this thread and have been waiting for a decent time to call her. I called and they have no news channels, the cable is out and the internet is out and they don't know if they have to evacuate or not.

I googled for evacuation and found a phone number to call for information on evacuation and gave her that.

Now to my question...sorry so long.....does anyone familiar with the area know if the Point Dume area is to be evacuated?

Thank you in advance for any information.
