Huge Fire In Malibu (ca) *merged threads*

Hello everyone, I have a question and if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

My daughter is on vacation in Malibu and staying with her friend, who just moved out there in June. She called me yesterday to tell me about the fires. I was not at home and had no access to news. When I got home last night, I really didn't see much on the news about the magnitude of these fires.

This morning, I came on here and saw this thread and have been waiting for a decent time to call her. I called and they have no news channels, the cable is out and the internet is out and they don't know if they have to evacuate or not.

I googled for evacuation and found a phone number to call for information on evacuation and gave her that.

Now to my question...sorry so long.....does anyone familiar with the area know if the Point Dume area is to be evacuated?

Thank you in advance for any information.
Quite a vacation. I do not know the status of Point Dume. There would be police or firefighters driving through and alerting them. I will see what I can find out.
Do they have radio? That is where I am getting almost all my info.

Thank you so much JBean, I knew you would come through! I would think that someone of authority would have been through....but I am sure they are quite busy.

I'm glad your friend is ok, Mama.

IdahoMom.........I'm 3 block's from the beach, Thank GOD

My niece and family live in Scripps Ranch..........and they left this morning to go to my sisters house in San Carlos..My sister and husband are now in Houston and she say's it's all over the news! GEEZE

Haha...silly me to suggest that it would rain any other month.

I have lived in So Cal twice in my life and I do know it rains at other times than just January and February.

Sorry if I offended you IM :blowkiss:

It did rain one day this September...but before that, it hadn't rained in so long, we were sitting inside the apartment going, "What's that noise?" "Oh, it must be raining!" I grew up in Chicago where we get thunderstorms throughout the summer so it is a big difference from how I grew up ;)
Hubby and I always joke..."what's that water falling out of the sky?" :D

I am still looking.

Hockeymom..I just heard on the radio that they are actually evacuating people off the mountain TO Highland. That is a good sign.

Aero-

I found this page with beach webcams- Point Dume's pictures look much better than many of the others in that area:

I hope that makes you feel better. :)

That's cool, Gina. No problem. :)

I just read (latimes.com?) that this years rainfall is 1/5 of average. Not good and that certainly contributes to the cinderbox conditions.

The beach I always go to in Malibu is the Malibu Lagoon State Beach. I'm sure that whole area is just horrible smoky and dangerous right now.

Thanks JBean. She works at Patton State Hospital. What do they do if a place like that has to be evacuated?
They should have a complete evacuation plan in place. Which would probably include transporting to another hospital. But I wouldn;t worry about that right now.

The only radio they have is in the car!!

The phone number I gave them was an office and they were still open and said they need not evacuate.

Thank you for your help anyway!! I figured I would get faster information here than they would calling a phone number!

Thank you JBean, those counties and areas were on the page that I got the phone number from, but those counties meant nothing to me and read them to her and her friend said that those places were all around them and I was just hoping that they know where they are at....if that makes any sense!! haha

I have a friend who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes. Does anyone know if this area is near the fires?

OMG...my cousin lives in Encinitas...just bought a new house, and they have a 3-y.o. son...sounds like the fire is getting close to them! Maybe I will write them to make sure they're okay.

Good luck everyone... gotta get some work done!
