MY son just arrived from Santa Barbara. he THINKS he is driving home to San Diego LMAO

So far as evacuations, it's definitely worse. My mom has two of my sisters (with husbands and two kids each and pets), as well as an in-law's relative and her 10 dogs (she runs a kennel), she would have another close family friend, but she has cats, so her office is letting her and the cats live there.

I lived down there for the Cedar fire (interestingly, this time, there's a San Marcos fire that might have evacuated us, if we still lived there). Aside from the huge area burned, there's also the horrible air that will last for at least a week - you can see the air. You can almost pick it up. Even indoors, in a sealed office, with high powered air cleaners running, you can see the air.

This does sound worse - they're saying it might reach the ocean. Those Santa Ana winds could sure push it there. They blow straight west, nonstop, no shifts, no nothing, 20-30 mph. Hot wind from the desert.

The fire in SD is unreal. My boyfriends mother is down there and he's nervous for her. We can't reach her.

KrisNine............what area of town is she in? Can I help in anyway, I live here. You may get some information by dialing 211.

I was ther for that fire also Details. that was the worst I have ever seen. theya re already saying this one is far worse. Now with Big Bear and Arrowhead burning too there just isn't enough fire power.
Solana beach being evacuated is just unheard of. Burning all the way to the coast is crazy.

Thank you so much, Mama! She's in La Mesa. It's strange because we can't get her at the house. My boyfriend is calling her neighbor to make sure she's ok.

So, is the fire jumping the 5? Or is it two fires, essentially, burning on both sides?? This is nuts.

All Solana Beach residents told be ready to evacuate

12:19 p.m.
All Solana Beach residents are advised to plan, pack and be prepared to evacuate because current wild fires may spread.
A city emergency operations director, John Traylor, said residents on 12 streets close to Holmwood Canyon , which extends from San Elijo Lagoon south into a neighborhood west of Interstate 5, are advised to voluntarily evacuate. The rest of the city may be asked to do so if the fire danger spreads. The lagoon extends east into Rancho Santa Fe, where a mandatory evacuation has been instituted.
Right now, Solana Beach fire officials are going door to door on those 12 streets to advice residents to leave. Those streets are: 700 Seabright Lane; 200 Patty Hill Drive; 600 Barbara Ave.; 700 Rios Ave.; 700 Granados Ave.; 600 Holmwood Lane; 700 Rawl Place; 600 Canyon Place; 400-600 Canyon Drive; 600 Ridgeline Place; 600 Glencrest Place; and 400-500 Glencrest Drive. Traylor said the canyon rim is the city's highest fire danger zone because of an abundance of vegetation. "We are trying to be ahead of the curve," he said.

When the winds die down, can't they bring in planes from out of state, and don't they scoop big buckets of water out of the ocean? Are you Californians hearing anything about that?

Winds are too strong for fixed-wing aircraft, so I don't think they can use the tanker planes.

Chargers are already talking about playing in AZ this weekend and LT had to evacuate!

J, you know where I am and you have my number, if you or any of your family need a place to go. But it looks like the fires are directly between us. (I'm ashamed to say it's a perfect sunny day out here...)

Thank you so so much Nova.

No, not all SD County schools.................San Deigo County is huge, and not all areas are affected by the smoke or fires.

It was on the news- ALL county schools are closed today and will be closed tomorrow.

LT among wildfire evacuees in San DiegoSAN DIEGO — Reigning NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson was among several San Diego Chargers players, coaches and staff members who had to evacuate their homes as wildfires burned in San Diego County.
The Chargers, who had just returned from their bye weekend, canceled practice Monday. Players were dismissed so they could take care of their families and because the air quality was poor due to smoke, spokesman Bill Johnston said.
As of late Monday morning, wildfires fanned by fierce desert winds forced the evacuations of nearly 250,000 people in the county.

According to current news:

I-15 is closed from Escondido to northern San Diego, both directions.

I-5 northbound is gridlocked and nothing is moving.

I don't want to argue with you, but NOT all SD County schools are affected.

I have family in Carlsbad, and trust me when I say Carlsbad High School is not only open today, but has no plans for closing tomorrow! Call them if you don't believe me (760) 331-5100

I don't know, but they are using QualComm stadium as an evac center. This is crazy!

Anyone know anything about La Mesa??

Kris........I can't remember the exact count but there are TONS of people at QualCom...........stadium right now.

Yep, my sister lives in La Mesa Area. It's just before you get to El Cajon on eastbound I-8. Haven't heard any bad news of that area yet!

KUSI.com is running live news online.
