Found Deceased Hungary - Mackenzie Michalski, 31, a New York native, a nurse practitioner, missing in Budapest. 4 Nov 24 *arrest*

Exactly the same details as in Grace M. case:
A foreign female tourist,
Bars /clubs hopping together,
went to his rented apartment,
"accident" (according to perp) during "rough sex" (choking/strangulation),
perp went to buy a suitcase while a body of the victim was in the apartment,
Internet searches by the perp,
dumped a suitcase in the park.
They met through Tinder in Grace's case.

I remember this case very well.
It was horrific.

RIP to both victims :(

In comments at the link above, the BRFK (Police) have responded to some comments. I can’t view them all due to not having an account, but I did see these two:

This is a great link- thanks for posting slowpoke!

It’s an official FB link of the Budapest police department and they posted loads of information @21 hours ago

They actually show the perp (very tall, slim build, short brown hair, appears to be a “normal” good looking guy from what you can tell despite face being blurred out- wearing khakis and a red and navy blue adidas sweatshirt) the police measure his height, they fingerprint him then handcuff him - they belt him up/ put him on a leash and they literally show them walking with him to find her body, they show exactly where he dumped her, they show photos of evidence collected - a large duffle and smaller suitcase, her sweater and black Patagonia jacket, her boots, her clutch with lipgloss, keys and credit card, her hair tie, the glasses they drank from in his apartment, the couch where they sat in his apartment. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PROFESSIONALISM AND TRANSPARENCY of the Budapest police department/ detectives. Amazingly refreshing to see this!
I wish they were this transparent with every case we follow here.
I LOVE BUDAPEST AND HUNGARY IN GENERAL BUT THIS IS TRULY AMAZING TO SEE.
I’m duly impressed!!

They still protect the alleged perp as they do in most of Europe by only exposing his initials ( which may be backwards because in Hungary last names come first) but how incredible to be witness to so much information.
It appears the alleged perp is Irish but living / working in Budapest in his own apartment.
I’m interested in hearing more about him.

All IMHO

He was very tall, and his face was blurred out, but for some reason, I felt that he looked younger than his age and was somewhat baby faced. Also, he appeared meek and didn’t give the police hard time.

I totally agree Charlot123!

There will be some leniency for his immediate cooperation IMHO
Also, they seem to be treating him well.
I noticed that at the end when they placed the perp into a police van he had a jacket around his shoulders (likely for warmth or because of rain) that he didn’t have on when leading the police to the body.

Trying to wrap my brain around all of it - this perp is old enough to have a fully formed brain- seems he would have been smart enough to call the police if she did indeed die during a consensual intimate encounter.
Could have been more decidedly manslaughter than murder if he would have done the right thing.
I absolutely detest the fact that modern music glorifies women “liking it rough” - like in the song “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony.
Who in their right mind would ever???
But the music and culture opens up the possibility - while I’m still reeling from the Diddy charges and the hundreds of willing participants involved in that sordid mess.

The perp’s google searches after the fact are going to hang him.

He certainly didn’t go out that night with the intention of trying to pick someone up to murder- but obviously the facts aren’t out yet.
I would love to be privy to the lyrics in the songs that they danced to at the two nightclubs that night. Possible fodder for his defense?

More likely than not they were over served with booze and possibly more.
The dangers of going home to hook up with a complete stranger are many.
This just happens to be the worst of those dangers- that you don’t live to tell about it.

I’m really anxious to know his whole story/ background.
So very sad for Kenzie’s loved ones. Such a tragic end.

All IMHO

I think they met in one of the clubs.
Probably the fact that English was their native language made the instant connection.
Like 2 "soul mates" in a foreign land.
Changing clubs might have meant drinks in all of them.
Hungary is known for good alcohol.
Was she meant to fly to another country next day?

In Grace M's case, the perp had history of SA.

Historically, be it movies, poems or songs, the theme of two strangers accidentally meeting in an evening city and having a brief romance on a borrowed time, used to be incredibly attractive. Remembering "the Roman Holidays", or Smokie's "I'll meet you at midnight", or just "ships that pass in the night"-like themes, they were all so alluring.

However, nowadays, a woman can't stay alone, if for one evening in a megapolis. She cannot hike alone, she can't do her job alone, she can't even pass by a neighbor's door unattended, as it seems. All these victims we were reading of were not leading risky lives, definitely avoided bad neighborhoods, were organized, professional, seemingly very nice, and yet times and again we read the same story, visualise the same scenario, and are shocked by the searches their murderous clones put online.

I don't believe these are accidents. I think that maybe the perpetrators prime themselves at the same websites, for a long time. What encounter will end up in impulse-driven tragedy, might be somewhat random. But -JMO - romance is the last thing on their minds.

(As to "liking it rough" - it is all in the minds of these perverts, and women have nothing to do with their fantasies, much less should they be blamed for them.)

Very sorry for MacKenzie's family and friends, now they have a very long and hard time ahead of them, wishing them strength.

"At present, it is not possible to establish exactly how the victim was killed and this is the subject of the ongoing investigation," the court said Monday.

Providence added in a statement. "This loss of a beloved member of our Providence family is especially difficult, as it follows the death of Melissa Jubane in September."

Yet, I try to remind myself that news of these horrific true crime stories are generally of exceptional circumstances, and that’s why it makes the newspapers.

The great majority will not get murdered, even if in a megalopolis alone, hike alone, work alone, or walk past a neighbor’s door unescorted.

Yes, it can sometimes cause me to feel fear, as if danger is lurking around every corner, but it’s not healthy for me to think that way. Better for me to just be prepared, take reasonable precautions, then go out and enjoy life with more of a positive outlook.

"After the murder, the Irish man who is charged with killing the American girl, searched on the internet for many things: for example, "how reliable is the police in Budapest," police said in their post. "This is how reliable we are. We caught him within 24 hours."

Just been catching up on this sad case - like @Dotta says it has striking similarities to the Grace Millane case which I followed very closely - only difference seems to be that Grace met her killer via tinder whereas this seems like more of a chance meeting in a nightclub.

Well done to Budapest police for solving this case incredibly quickly.

My thoughts go out to Mackenzies family

I live in the same city in NZ, which occurred during the time of GM's case. It was really big here, considering our parts are tiny. Word and news go around really quick, since we're small haha

The suspect -- a 37-year-old Irish citizen -- was arrested and allegedly confessed to killing her, police said. He allegedly showed police where he had hidden her body, police said. The name of the suspect, who was a "a couple of years the victim's senior," according to investigators, was only identified as L.T.M.

Respectfully snipped for brevity.

I think that sadly, what we know about MacKenzie’s last hours comes from her killer, and what he says is a lie. However, it is easier to get tipsy on an unknown drink in a new place. Much depends on what people eat, too, but I had an experience last Friday. It was a house party, the food was abundant, and I am not a drinker. However, someone brought home-made “dandelion wine”, and I tried out of curiosity. Once was enough. In Mackenzie’s situation, if she was overserved alcohol (we don’t know but it is not unlikely), it goes against her killer, because the murder turns into “using the helpless state of the victim”. My personal opinion.

I'm new to this forum. I created an account because of this case and the Jubane one (I only recently just heard of it and didn't know about it until now, call me late or whatever).
