From the link, KR (her boyfriend) said:

'Before the trip, Kenzie and I were in the middle of a breakup. She originally wanted me to go to Budapest with her, but I decided not to go with her, so a friend of hers accompanied her instead.

The poor boyfriend is living with the unwarranted guilt of Kenzie and his breakup. I hope he can find peace.

Respectfully snipped for brevity.

I think that sadly, what we know about MacKenzie’s last hours comes from her killer, and what he says is a lie. However, it is easier to get tipsy on an unknown drink in a new place. Much depends on what people eat, too, but I had an experience last Friday. It was a house party, the food was abundant, and I am not a drinker. However, someone brought home-made “dandelion wine”, and I tried out of curiosity. Once was enough. In Mackenzie’s situation, if she was overserved alcohol (we don’t know but it is not unlikely), it goes against her killer, because the murder turns into “using the helpless state of the victim”. My personal opinion.
Thanks for posting and glad you are OK after that new wine!
You are exactly right- it’s not unlikely M may have been over-served.
Another poster (a local) mentioned earlier that one of the bars/clubs she was in was known for spiking drinks- yikes.
IMHO

Kenzie and her BF had been together for six years. It is a long time, and it is impossible to predict which way the relationship would go, but L.T.M. had deprived KR, the boyfriend, of even making a choice about the relationship. KR is a victim here, too, like Kenzie’s family and friends. I hope all of them will eventually find peace, but it is a testament to Kenzie’s personality and to her family and beloved ones' spirit that they got so active and organized in such a short period of time. Great job of Budapest police, too. Sad that they had to prove their competence in such a tragic situation.

"At present, it is not possible to establish exactly how the victim was killed and this is the subject of the ongoing investigation," the court said Monday.

Providence added in a statement. "This loss of a beloved member of our Providence family is especially difficult, as it follows the death of Melissa Jubane in September."
So incredibly sad and mind boggling.
Two women ( I don't know if they knew each other) die violent deaths at the hands of males in two different countries.

I hope it is OK to express emotions. I am angered and upset that each time i read about these cases, my first though is about the state of the victim's hyoid bone. ((

Police later detained an Irish citizen in connection to Michalski’s disappearance, who admitted he met her at a local nightclub and danced before leaving together for his apartment.

Police said that the pair had “gotten intimate, and he killed her in the process.”

Authorities said that after the murder, the suspect cleaned his apartment, placed her body in a wardrobe cabinet and went out to purchase a suitcase. He allegedly placed Michalski’s body in the suitcase, rented a car and drove it to Lake Balaton, approximately an hour and a half drive from Budapest.

Police said he hid Michalski’s body in the woods before driving back to Budapest, where he was arrested outside his apartment

Budapest police said 31-year-old Mackenzie Michalski, a nurse practitioner from Portland, was killed by a man she met.

Michalski’s friends alerted authorities after she missed her departing flight and her belongings were left in her Airbnb.

Authorities were able to track down surrounding security footage and identified a male suspect who was last seen with Michalski.

"Her birthday was just so important to her," friend Molly Eimer said. "She got us all to go on all these crazy trips for her birthday. She had us going to Iceland in the winter, January 18th, and Iceland, as you guys know from being on the trip, has only four hours of daylight in the winter, but she could take four hours of daylight and turn it into the trip of a lifetime."
