I don’t blame you. I’ve never been a big fan of Florida. Too hot, humid and too many bugs lol.

If you want to go somewhere warm, without winter, try Arizona. It’s absolutely beautiful. IMO

Lived in AZ for 3 years while attending UA in Tuscon on my second degree (Near Eastern Studies).
I immediately fell in love with the land (am originally from CT), and if anything, am more homesick for AZ than CT!

AZ is probably more viable for me for many reasons. Two, I am aiming for a career change (audio-visual preservation), second, at some point I want to visit the Margaret Herrick Library (associated with Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) in Beverly Hills, plus the overall location...while in AZ I worked at Old Tucson Studios at one point and absolutely loved it! It's a theme park but still used for shooting films and commercials.

So those are my near-future goals. :)

Ok, my ‘hood is going to get outer bands about 3-4pm today. I’m in Sarasota County near the airport. I don't think all the lawnmowers have stopped in 2 days. High grass means snakes so it gets cut lower. Bringing in stuff off the lanai now too.

Hi PayrollNerd, we are neighbors! I live about ten miles south of you. :)

Prayers for the eastern seaboard, Bahamas, my friend TC in North Carolina, and everyone in the path of this monster hurricane...

Lol- we had that a few years back w those creepy moth larvae. Nobody does bugs quite like FL. Recently saw “Empire of the Ants” on Svengoolie. Worthwhile vintage FL horror flick. Good one to add to post hurricane download collection.

Great idea, been a long time since I've seen that movie - Joan Collins is in it (yep I'm a fan!). I have "Storm Warning" from Dr John/Mac Rebennack (RIP) which is a favorite:

Just in time - it's starting to rain outside!

:O

I just now realized Google Maps has live hurricane tracking. If you type in Great Abaco Island & zoom in- satellite mode best for topography- you can see exactly what terrain Dorian is over. So shallow & flat there. Can’t imagine 23’ storm surge.

Deleted Bad link, it did not go to where it originally went to after 10 minutes and now misdirected? Have I been scammed?

WPLG video posted 3 minutes ago, appears to be video from the eye of the storm.

Hurricane Dorian's winds reach 180 mph as storm is expected to stall over Bahamas, forecasters say - CNN

Updated 12:37 PM EDT, Sun September 01, 2019

180-mph sustained winds are bringing "catastrophic conditions" to the Abaco Islands, the National Hurricane Center said, and forecasters predict the Category 5 storm will remain over the Bahamas into Monday.

With gusts over 200 mph, Dorian has become "the strongest hurricane in modern records for the northwestern Bahamas," the center said.

It looks so nice and calm, almost like a painted picture, except the water and palms are moving a little.
Would like to see the same shot after Dorian goes through.

Yes, very dangerous. Electricity can travel through water and electrocute people from down lines.
All those transformers and jacks blowing. I thought the power company shuts down the system before the hurricane hits to save the equipment so this wouldn't be happening.

It is going to be a scary night with no light and the storm still continuing. There is so little info coming out that I am thinking no internet, phone, etc. jmo

Amperently they didn't shut off all the power. :/

Not trying to make light of a bad situation...

Ok, I'll see myself out.

Pressure at 910 mb - air pressure has dropped by 35 mb since yesterday morning. Dorian is continuing to strengthen! 185 mph winds! Ugh.
