Hurricane Dorian - August/September 2019 #2

Bahamians look for way off storm-ravaged island as death toll climbs to 43
Official: Prepare for the 'unimaginable'
September 06, 2019

I agree, the number deceased will be unimaginable. They only recovered or let me say.. reported 43 today, yesterday was 40.

All reports I see say bodies in the open. Some photos have shown bodies. They speak of the death stench. A previous article noted the morticians were ready to do their job.

Something is just not adding up. JMHO....

The real numbers might scare off the tourists they are soliciting to visit the islands. Cuz, you know, it's party time in the Bahamas as if nothing happened.

My mom is in Moncton, New Brunswick here in Atlantic Canada and she's just messaged me that the Georges Dumont Hospital by her place has just caught fire as Dorian moves through pounding them. Can't find any confirmation sources on this yet, but hoping that they can get everyone safely out.

43 my @ss. The toll is much, much higher than that. 12 alone were found in one house earlier today and many bodies are reported floating in the street and trapped dead in debris. Not to mention those simply swept out to sea. Why are they not reporting all this?

They’re still trying to find, collect all the bodies, etc. iIts a bad bad deal down there...take a look at the article, I think that explains everything quite well. They’ve acknowledged it’s going to rise. Right now they can barely keep up with body bags, coolers and trying to help the people who are alive. There are a lot of bodies under rubble they can’t get to without heavy equipment...they had to start embalming people bc they have run out of coolers... a lot of dead bodies rotting everywhere. See article.

I kinda hurt my finger hitting the like button so hard.

Why? Bad for business. Bad for corruption. Bad for greed. Bad for shame. Bad for government. Bad for tourism!

Oh yeah-almost forgot: imo, jmo, moo, imho, & all that other b$s$.

??

They are dealing with dead bodies everywhere right now, hundreds trying to flee, people in contaminated water, hungry children, debris everywhere. They’re not thinking about tourism right now. They’ve just suffered a HUgE incomprehensible tragedy. I’m not sure what this means but those guys are going through HELL right now. Aint no party time, don’t know what you mean?

"And as the days go by, people affected by a hurricane are at risk of cholera, tetanus, and other diseases caused by exposure to unsanitary water. In warm conditions, standing waters allow mosquitoes to breed, increasing the potential for vector-borne diseases. Exposure to mold – which thrives when buildings are damaged by water – can lead to severe respiratory conditions."

It was reported on the news here that the body bags have yet to arrive; when cholera follows devastation such as this, you need proper means to collect those bodies into else risk rampant spread of disease. One needs to safely collect those bodies in order to get them to the morticians and coroners.

Lots of areas avoid that delay by foregoing identification and heading straight to mass graves or pyres. Apparently, the Bahamas is going to make an identification attempt for their victims.

"All of the donations are welcome, but they can also, very much, assist us by still visiting the islands of the Bahamas in the unaffected areas. They are open for business," said Ellison Thompson, the deputy director general of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation.

The Bahamas depend heavily on tourism, which supplies half their annual gross domestic product of $5.7 billion, according to the Bahamas Investment Authority. By comparison, tourism brings in 20% of Hawaii's annual GDP and less than 3% of the GDP of the United States.

Exactly. Thank you.

That's exactly what they did in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico after Irma - faked the death count, acted like tourism was still a viable option - greed, corruption, etc. The US can and should do better by all the territories, not just the states.

I can assure you those 4 official deaths reported in the US Virgin Islands is pure, unadulterated bull-crap. My kid and her friends probably saw at least 4 dead bodies just on her travels around St Thomas after Irma moved through. She was one of the few who had an operating vehicle - she lost a windshield wiper - had a few scratches on the paint. She hopped in her car, zipped around picking up friends, drove with all the windows down and everyone had a cell phone stuck out the window and up in the air looking for a signal. Took 2 days but they were finally able to call out!

"HALIFAX, N.S. —

Hurricane Dorian took down a crane, ripped roofs off apartments and uprooted trees as it charged across Nova Scotia Saturday.

But the province isn’t out of the woods yet.

“The storm is definitely not over,” Bob Robichaud, meteorologist at the Canadian Hurricane Centre, said at a news conference Saturday evening.

Dorian made landfall near Sambro Creek, roughly 25 kilometres from Halifax, with maximum wind gusts of 155 km/h around 6:15 p.m., according to the National Hurricane Centre.

While hurricane Dorian has been declared a post-tropical storm, as opposed to tropical cyclone hurricane Juan in 2003, Robichaud said the intensity isn’t different.

“It doesn’t mean it’s a weaker storm, not at all. It just means the structure of the storm is different,” he said.

“It’s a powerful storm. We should focus on what it’s bringing,” SaltWire Network meteorologist Cindy Day said, during a morning briefing with SaltWire Network reporters.

For Cape Breton, that meant peak wind gusts until about 3 a.m. Sunday. At that point the wind will change to the west and northwest at about 90 to 100 km/h. On P.E.I., "

I hope this is okay to post:

Bless those who lay down their lives for others, for there is no greater love than this. Mend broken lives from heart-rending catastrophes, and pour mercy and grace into hurting hearts. Make Your presence known in amazing and surprising ways as You often do when Your people cry out for intervention. Multiply both the efforts of responders and helpers and the material resources needed for life-giving sustenance—just as You did in Bible times when You fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fish. Thank You for those who mirror Your character in their selfless efforts to help.

"Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Minnis made that plea Friday.

"One of the best ways that people around the world can show their support and solidarity... is to visit our other islands by air or by cruise ship," he said."

errr....how about showing support through relief efforts instead of vacations? Why not donate those vacation funds to help the 70,000 homeless instead of indulging in a nice vacation while bodies are decomposing just miles away?
