PA here, Montco. Just sitting and waiting. Light rain, slight breeze. Cooking corn and pork chops while I can.

 Hi elmomom !! Got 2 trees on the side, that worried me more at first, that they'll come down take out power line and kitchen windows. Then I saw all the stuff in the yard across the street and went tape happy. I know it looks silly, but
I do not want glass flying all over, more afraid for the cat.

PAJS, wish you were on my block. Hope your daughter gets home early, alot of places close early tonight. My son just had his performances cancelled for tonight and tomorrow, one less worry.

The path has shifted a little more towards the west. My one friend thinks it may go right up the Chesapeake bay..

Snack cakes 66, wish we were neighbors, too. Next door has two strollers, two chairs, and a few ride on toys on their porch. Another has two bikes, a small grill, and a stroller If they go through my window, I'm going to be upset! Daughter is staying at a friend's house tonight, so it will be my granddaughter and me. She is a sensible young adult-she will keep me calm-I think. My sister is in Bensalem-she has rain coming in some windows and doors-her husband is running around all frantic and she is calm as a cucumber-thanks to a few glasses of wine.

A woman I used to work with retired to go live life on a sailboat with her SO, on the Chesapeake. I hope they're ok! I saw a sailboat that got beached in VA on the lower Chesapeake and hoped it wasn't them!

My husband is NOT taking this storm seriously and I am getting really worried about it. He keeps talking about hurricane Bob that we had in 90 or 91 and this storm is much bigger and stronger than Bob was but he doesn't get that. We are getting everything outside put away in the shed or the basement right now. He does not think we need to board up windows, yet we are expected to have 100mph wind and we have a long line of old, tall trees on our property on the south side of the house. If they come down they will be coming down on the house.

We were a block and a half from the ocean on vacation in VA Beach for Bob. Oh my, that was one long night! I hope you were able to convince him, Irene is much more massive. Stay safe!

We are inland in MD now, so we're just expecting a tropical storm at this point. Still, we managed to fit the cars in the garage. Light rain and clouds quickly moving in from the east since noon--boy does that look weird. Stay safe everyone in Irene's path!

You are welcome, I was looking that the storm surge map and I will tell you, I just am not sure if I'm in trouble or not. The storm surge map has ZERO STREET NAMES! I cannot tell where I'm at on the map. I must point out I'm terrible with maps too. Could someone help me?

Here is the storm surge map. http://www.vaemergency.gov/sites/default/files/MiddlePeninsula_StormSurge.png

Here is my street: tanyard landing road, Va - Google Maps

I told my husband I think we are, and he argued with me because a flood map sent out early spring showed we were not in the 100 year flood range. I tried to explain to him that surge is a different map, it has to do with storms. He argued and argued!

How are you doing? Hope everything is going well there! I don't think that area was quite into the surge area, but it would be happening by now. The worst is predicted to hit us around midnight.

MSNBC reporting 6 dead now with Irene. Two kids. :-(
NYC and NJ reports say they were asking next of kin info for those who refused to leave.
Still a cat-1 and huge. Nearly the size of Europe.
Eye moving back over water, where it had been skirting along the shore, headed to NY by tonight/early morning.
Expect at least 12-15 hours wind and rain.
Please stay safe!

I think I found the scanners for your area here:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=1775
(Pick one and click the speaker to listen)

This is link for one called Stone Harbor Fire and rescue:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?action=wp&feedId=6884

Sounds quiet!

This one is getting reports from ham operators - very active.
Hurricane Watch Net - 14.325Mhz

This feed broadcasts the Amateur Radio Hurricane Watch Net from a short wave radio. Amateur Radio stations in the path of the hurricane relay information directly to the National Hurricane Center. Stations reporting from PA and NJ now.

Status: The Hurricane Watch Net is active. We've switched receivers and antennas for the evening.

Raining harder, wind kicking up. Just had a tornado warning for Chester Co., Delaware Co, and a few others, some in Jersey.

So far I have lights, but the main outside lighting on the building is blown out and it's very dark out there. Some sounds as if things are skidding across someone's balcony. Spooky night, I don't believe I'll be able to sleep.

My daughter's in laws were in Ocean City, don't know where they are now. Daughter lives in Jersey, across the bridge. Don't know where she is either, but I think she's okay.

Just heard another bulletin. Tornado warnings now for Montco and Phila Co.

Hang in there, I'll be up watching right with you. My daughter is in Jersey, tried to call her earlier this afternoon but didn't get an answer. I'm pretty sure she's okay though.

Hang in there, you ain't alone.
