JUST IN | Florida Hospital North Pinellas evacuating and closing due to Hurricane Irma http://bit.ly/2vVx0SS

It's in St. Petersburg, I'm sure that entire area will be under water. A little late but good call.

NYU Lagone Medical Center in Lower Manhattan backup generators were destroyed during Sandy and patients had to be evacuated during the height of the storm.

I remember this because my daughter had surgery scheduled two months after Sandy and it had to be postponed because the surgical area still wasn't up and running.

If they are in surge area send it are they in known surge ?

i think the model in the study was a head in crash of a storm as opposed to coming up from south but I remember there Bay stuff and would think that would still be a huge part here - water goes where it is told to go

Thank you Cariis for your wise counsel.

I needed that.

You are right. The folks that came on Tuesday, and the 2 people/3 dogs coming more in 30 minutes, were all in the surge area on the water. The others just will have a category ? wind for them and rain, but not life threatening waters. I have more than 25 family and friend folks that are in the area for a direct hit, but only a few in the zone A. And in 30 minutes, they will ALL be here in my city in Georgia. (crate for dog that is not housebroken... check! Dog bowls out, check! etc etc)

 for putting it into perspective. The ones left will be able to help others is their plan.

I needed shot of reality that Cariis! :heartbeat: They and their homes will be fine....

ETA: THEY ARE HERE! bye!!!

This makes me ill. Have a cousin hunkered down between Ft Myers and Naples. (And two friends just north along that coast.) :(

Are they interested in leaving? There are numbers we can give you that they can call and get assistance. If not, Germain Arena may still be accepting people.

It is getting late and I believe all the shelters in the area are closing by 8:00 tonight.

Does anyone know of a shelter within an hour of Tampa Bay Hospital that would have openings? Doc can't leave their post, over an hour out, and the family doesn't think their home will stand after the change of course going up the west coast now.

It gradually returns as the winds shift.

Southwest Florida could see historic flooding, up to 15 feet

Saturday’s projections from the NHC show potential storm surge flooding:

Greater than 9 feet above ground storm surge in Port Royal, Aqualane Shores and Royal Harbor. The same severe flooding could inundate Lely, parts of East Naples and Bonita Springs.

Coastal Collier and Lee counties could see flooding up to 15 feet.

Virtually all of Southwest Florida has the potential to see at least 3 feet of flooding.

Goodness, that's quite a long list. Now I'm going to look at a map. Thanks, BDE!

Cheeky request alert.... does anyone fancy putting the list in south to north (ish) order pretty please? I have no idea who is due to get Irma'd first

Thinking about you all from little old England, where I really must stop grumbling about unseasonably grey skies and showers. Stay safe my friends
