More than 50 Caribbean flamingos take shelter in a men's restroom at Zoo Miami on Sept. 25, 1998. Zookeepers rounded up the birds to protect them from the effects of Hurricane Georges.

I want someone with photoshop skills to put a cell phone at the front so it looks like a big flamingo group selfie!!! [emoji23]

[h=1]Some insist on riding out Irma at home[/h]

Slight west track deviation w/ECMWF 00z update may not landfall Hurricane #Irma along Florida peninsula at all Panhandle SE of Tallahassee

My 88 year old uncle lives on the Panhandle SE of Tallahassee...near water. I emailed him this morning and haven't heard back. I hope his kids came and hauled him out of there. His house is on a high foundation with an opening for water to flow through, but if this track deviation is true he'll be right where Irma makes landfall. :(

The one reporter on Fox was in Florida City and there was several inches of water in the streets (6"?) and large objects that had been blown off of buildings...metal siding etc.

The woman on msnbc, not sure where she was, one of the guys that was riding around on his bike earlier was lying on the walk way in front of a business. His bike was propt up against the building and he was covered up in a blanket and it looked like something possibly water repellent. Hope he doesn't plan on trying to get thru this storm that way.

This thread has been a tremendous help to me (I don't have tv). I'm in extreme western NC and was taken aback to read that they're closing the Great Smoky Mt National Park. Irma will have an impact here, but my main concern right now is for those in FL -- all of you, and my friends and family that mainly live in Volusia and Seminole Counties, although my friend since 3rd grade is down in Palm Bay. Tallahassee is also a concern since it seems to flood so easily. I did invite family up, but esp since the storm shifted to the west coast, they should get lower winds and feel safe in their home (boarded up, generator, food and water, and not in flood prone area). Blessings to all of you and again thank you for the information you've been providing! xoxo
