First time I have sat down can someone post the latest spaghetti model

i am trying but afraid I am going to lose power

is it doing a charlie and coming much more west over orlando

Cariis, I'm around Orlando too. WFTV reporting first gusts at the airport at 76 at 8:30. They seem to think it is moving closer to Orlando now and will be increasing throughout the night. Then they said about 55 at 9:00am. I was here for Charley too...grrr. Our power is flashing on & off now, think it will go out soon. Afraid it will be like Charley and power out for weeks!

We keep hoping and praying Irma breaks up and weakens even more before entering South Georgia. The worst thing for us will be the high winds and spinning off tornadoes. With it continuing to rain all day today the huge limbs of the giant Pecans and Oaks will already be saturated and very heavy from rainwater making them prone to be uprooted or have huge limbs crashing down everywhere. Some of the limbs on our Oaks are thicker around than a large Pine.

Hubby finally made it home and much earlier than his Jacksonville trip last Friday. He said there wasn't much traffic on the road whether it was north or south bound except for first responders. I hope this means that everyone who evacuated has made it to their final destination.

Even though our family has been glue to all the updates for days now.. whether watching news channels or getting update alerts on our smartphones, I have felt so connected when I come here to read the updates given by our beloved posters, Henry, Popsicle,Jersey Girl, and others who have done a great service for all of us by keeping us informed and updated. I thank you all so much.

My heart breaks for my Floridian neighbors and I am continuing to pray for all of you. It is so scary that the storm surges will come around 11pm when it is so dark and many without power. May you all be safe along with all of your family members, friends, and precious pets.

My husband has an aunt/uncle and nephew who lives in Palm Harbor. We talked with them this morning and they said they have decided to stay. Their home was built in 2012 so hopefully its strong and they will come out okay.

Thanks for the update, oceanblueeyes. Relieved for you that your husband has made it home again safely.

Sounds as though you can breathe a little easier now. Keep us posted...

Checking in in Callahan, FL, 20 miles NW of downtown Jacksonville, FL. Our worst weather is supposed to be overnight tonight through noon-ish tomorrow. Predictions are lower winds than they predicted yesterday. We have come close to losing power a few times and expect to lose power overnight. Here we are about 15 miles due west of Jax Airport. The community we used to live in was in NE Jax, about 80 miles due east of Jax Airport. They have lost power already. I will try to post in the morning, if I have power.

Atlanta has a tropical storm warning for their first time ever. We had decided to stay and ride this out. If we had evac'd, it would have been to family in Huntsville, AL. Looks likely they will be under storm warning too. I am worried not just about south Florida, but she will likely damage a lot along the I-75 corridor, which many people will be using to try and return to Florida when she has passed. Hope they don't try to rush home when there are still tornado threats from her trailing winds.

(I dont understand this tie your animal to a tree thing!!! It happened during Katrina, Harvey....)

(Makes me so angry!)

I think that people freak out and don't think properly. In a lot of people's minds it could take over that setting them free is worse. We've been ingrained to not let them run free. I live in the country and ours have free roam. When you live in a town/city it's imperative that you keep them leashed. I think maybe panic mode takes over and safety = leashed. IANA head doctor but I've seen the way that dog laws have changed over my lifetime. People freak if a dog is off of a leash. Cats go any darn place they please.

Edit: quite possible too that they couldn't find a shelter at the last moment that would take the dog so they had to choose. Kids? Dog? Tie dog up to keep it "safe" (won't get lost or blow away). Again. Just a guess. Then again there could just be that many @Hs in the country.

The wind and rain have finally stopped for the most part. What a relief. I feel like I just ran a marathon. Seriously. The stress really takes a lot out of you.

I fared very well. I didn't lose power, though almost 900,000 in my county are currently without service. I really lucked out.

I haven't gone out yet because there is a curfew and it's just not safe, so I'm unsure of any damage in my area. But I have seen the videos showing Brickell underwater. What a disaster.

The superintendent announced that all schools in Miami-Dade county will remain closed until further notice.

Sending lots of good thoughts to my fellow Floridans. Please stay safe.

Power just went out. Gusts are pretty bad out there. WFTV (local) said expect about a Cat 2 storm through Orlando 90-110 for about a 5-6 hr duration until about 3-4:00 am.

5:15 p.m.

The storm surge near Cudjoe Key may be flooding the nearby Florida Key Deer Refuge, home to fewer than 1,000 of the endangered Key deer.

The unique subspecies of white-tailed deer about 3 feet (1 meter) tall at the shoulder, the size of a large dog, but wildlife officials were not immediately concerned that the herd had been lost to floodwaters.

Dan Clark is refuge manager for the Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Complex. He says the deer are "excellent swimmers."

Clark evacuated his staff Wednesday, and he spoke with The Associated Press by phone from Pinellas County.

He says the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff planned to return as soon as weather permitted to begin assessing how the deer and other endangered species fared throughout the narrow, low-lying island chain.
