Getting more worried about Irma. I feel like I have been holding my breath for weeks, dreading the worries our members and their family/friends are going through with Harvey and now Irma. And feeling so helpless.

Is it possible I heard right last night, that the waters could be 90 degrees?

Please be careful and be prepared as best you can. And don't stick it out if there is any indication it is going to be a hugely harmful event.

Y'all who are on the periphery of the storm, remember Texas, fill up everything you can with gas. We are still having long lines and some places are out. We weren't even affected too bad. I hear the shortage is all the way up to Dallas! It's not even a real shortage! It's just that everyone heard something on the news and decided to all fill up on the same day. Evidently they keep doing it so it's getting difficult for the stations to keep up. They are thinking about limiting us! I need to mow my grass! Stay safe y'all! And if the authorities say evacuate please do! Thinking of y'all!

All the ice in the world wouldn't have helped us during Sandy. We lost power for over 2 weeks, lost everything in the fridge and then some.

There were 3 things I will never again go without during a storm:

1. a battery device to charge cell phones
2. a transister or battery radio
3. a flashlight/battery lamp

Add to the list, stock up on peanut butter, jelly and bread. We lived on these other than the hot meals delivered once a day from The Salvation Army.

My husband, who works in the insurance industry, says it will be another bad year or two for wages, raises and bonuses, thanks to the hurricanes. That's over 30,000 people in his company alone, most of whom are not well off.

Folks in the hurricane affected areas, please take your cars with you when you evacuate instead of leaving them behind to be destroyed. Latest news shows over 1 million cars destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. It's sad to see so many new and near-new cars floating around in the floods and wreckage while I get to drive my old clunker for another year or two. If at all possible, please take all your cars with you when you evacuate Irma, you have plenty of warning. TIA :tyou:

Austin is still out at a lot of stations, drive by a couple on Sunday out here with their pumps covered.

Looks like that vacay to the Dominican on Friday is slipping further and further away.....

"Practical Patty" says... when you buy a used car, do a car fax and ensure it's not from a region that had a hurricane/flooded as many were resold after Katrina in other states afterwards.

To those above that asked, family is in Florida, I am not. I found today a topographical map for the area, and RED... Baaaaad area.

Family in Marco Island getting ready to leave.

Family in Naples is out of the country. They no longer own a home and now live in one of those high rise luxury retirement condos. Good thing they don't own anymore and have to deal with an upcoming storm, they had to deal with that and a lot of damage from Hurricane Wilma. My MIL was so proud of having a corded telephone during that time because all the cell towers were blown down.

My sister recently bought a condo in Jensen Beach on the Atlantic side; she's not there but they just literally closed over the summer and are in the process of redoing the whole place; this is to be their snowbird home. A few other family members in the Palm Beach area are unsure what they are doing yet.

Another family member in Orlando; they are in Denver for the holiday weekend and planning on flying home on the red eye tonight.

I found Walmart on 1430 Austin Hwy had Gas on Saturday night no problem. Only a few cars ahead of me and I filled up.

Don't know if this is too far for you or not. Thought I would pass that along.

I found Walmart on 1430 Austin Hwy had Gas on Saturday night no problem. Only a few cars ahead of me and I filled up.

Don't know if this is too far for you or not. Thought I would pass that along.

I was in key west over the weekend, was supposed to stay until Thursday/Friday. I ended up leaving last night. The drive home normally takes about 4-4.5 hours.. took me 8.5 hours to get home. So it does seem like people are starting to move out of areas that will for sure have some impact. My hotel won't refund me the money I paid though so that was upsetting but at least I'm not there now. I am getting nervous about this storm though. I live in palm beach county.. I have family that live in the area too and we all aren't sure if we're going to evacuate or not. Mainly because this is one of my mothers busy times of year for work so she can't leave beforehand and I don't want to leave her but all this cat 5 business is a little unnerving. We have hurricane windows but that only covers us up to cat 3 hurricanes.. we aren't in a good zone but the area to get into our neighborhood floods with just a little bit of rain so I'm nervous we'll be stuck or blocked from coming/going if things get really bad.

Are there any other people from Florida in the PBC area ) here? What are you all planning on doing?
