Motorists headed north of Key Largo, Fla., on US 1, in anticipation of Hurricane Irma.

Looking at Google maps, I note there are a handful of animal rescues in Key Largo. I hope they manage to evacuate all the animals in their care.

The graphic kind of disproves some claims that Hurricane Irma is the most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever. Clearly it is at best tied with the Labor Day Hurricane. So it will be one of the most intense hurricanes, but not the most. Irma is a typical strong hurricane. It's going to do some pretty serious damage, but it won't be the first time.

They did say yesterday that all of the shelter animals will be moved off the Keys.

The Atlantic now has 3 hurricanes active at the same time: #Irma, #Jose and #Katia. The last time this occurred was September 16-17, 2010.

Ah, remember those 2 foot by 2 foot maps that we would drag out to write down the latitude and longitude to track the hurricanes as we didn't have the radar back then on the television! :floorlaugh: back in the dinosaur ages!
