YW lilpony,

I don't usually post in the Jury Room, but Katrina has me captivated with concern. I've about worn off the F5 button on my puter trying to keep this thread Refreshed for any up-dates.
Oh you should always visit the Jury room. We have great fun in here most times. Don't stay away!! :p

My nephew had just flown into New Orleans Fri. to begin school at Tulane. They promptly got all the students onto buses and took them up to Jackson, Ms. where he is now at a shelter. All his stuff is back at the dorm.

If this is a category 5 and hits New Orleans head-on, it essentially will be gone; under water. Water from Ponchatraine and the river will come in from all sides. I just hope they get everyone out. Evidently they were somewhat prepared for this possibility.

I lived in Baton Rouge and my parents are from the Shreveport area, so this is my second home; it will have to be built back; it will never be the same New Orleans. But just hope the people survive; and I feel so bad about the animals.

I am just praying that it turns and hits to the right of New Orleans.

Amen.Keep praying!

Astronomical isn't it? You know Buzz, I have been through many hurricanes myself and have faithfully watched all the others, but this storm is scaring me so much I can't even say.Right now I am glued to the TV and I am so fearful for the people in New Orleans.I don't think a lot of people understand the ramifications. This is not just homes being leveled, this is major loss of human life. Not trying to be dramatic but I saw Kathleen Blanco's face this morning and I have known her all my life, and her agony was blatant. The mayor wasn't much better. The weather girl on Fox earlier grabbed her stomach. Prayers!!!!!
I am afraid that you are right. I think that this is going to be something that we have never seen before. I pray that those who chose to stay in the path of this storm or had no way to leave are spared from its fury. I can't even find words to say. They keep saying that this is something of "Bibical Proportions". I don't think that I like the sounds of that....

MarthaT I have been particualrly worried about all the students . Please keep us posted on your nephew.

My understanding is that if it hits a little east it will be an even worse scenario as it will hit the Lake with greater force, sending even more water into NO. The only hope they have is if it pulls west..but there doesn't seem to be any indication that that will happen.

Truly, I can't believe this is happening. OK, don't go right, PULL TO THE WEST. Just don't hit N. O. head on, please.

Let us pray for a miracle.

The only thing I can say is pray..I have been in this mode all day.I am so upset as you can tell...pray, pray. I can't even think of another forum right now. I think we need to all be one this time because this is unpredicable and so potentially horrible.

Camille and Katrina are of equal intensity---160mph winds

  • #154
Prayers for all in the path of this terrible storm. I hope it loses some of its strength before hitting land.

  • #155
My thoughts and prayers are with all who are in the path of this monstrocity of a hurricane; and all who have family members there, as well!

May God be with you and protect you all!

Also praying Katrina somehow miraculously decreases in strength!

Hurricane force winds are being felt now along the LA/MS coast. They eye is about 100 miles South of MS moving at 10mph. The eye will be there in 9 hours, or so.
