My pleasure 13th Juror; I have a fascination with the awesome power of Mother Nature. 2005 is breaking all of the records as far as hurricanes are concerned, and sadly, has also pointed out major deficiencies in our governements ability to respond to major disasters. "You are on your own" has a new reality to it for a lot of people.

CNN has just announced that Tropical Storm Alpha has just formed. Marking the first time the list of storm names has been exhausted, necessitating the use of the Greek alphabet.

That's why I fell so awful that this hurricane has devestated these areas in Mexico Buzz. The people have almost nothing to start with before the hurricane hits, and aftarwards, their government is not going to come driving up with water food and money to assist them like they do in the USA. They will be on their own to rebuild from scratch. It also will force a lot of new immigrents to cross the border illegally to look for work so they can earn money before they go back to Mexico.

Fort Meyers is the prediction. Wilma finally started moving, after being stationary for a period; the Northerly movement is slow, about 3 mph.; Willma should make a turn toward the Northeast, heading towartds Florida, and pick up speed pretty quickly, while strengthening in the process.

MY gosh, reportertype, hope you will be safe and secure; they say Wilma may become, as much as a Category Three Hurricane, again, so that isn't anything to make light of. Be safe.

Category Three Hurricane:
Winds 111-130 mph (96-113 kt or 178-209 km/hr). Storm surge generally 9-12 ft above normal. Some structural damage to small residences and utility buildings with a minor amount of curtainwall failures. Damage to shrubbery and trees with foliage blown off trees and large trees blown down. Mobile homes and poorly constructed signs are destroyed. Low-lying escape routes are cut by rising water 3-5 hours before arrival of the center of the hurricane. Flooding near the coast destroys smaller structures with larger structures damaged by battering from floating debris. Terrain continuously lower than 5 ft above mean sea level may be flooded inland 8 miles (13 km) or more. Evacuation of low-lying residences with several blocks of the shoreline may be required. Hurricanes Jeanne and Ivan of 2004 were Category Three hurricanes when they made landfall in Florida and in Alabama, respectively.

How long have you been near Ft. Myers, reportertype; that seems like a very desired area to retire to; where did you originate from??

Originally I'm from Texas. Lived there all my life until I took a job here. Just got here at the tail end of last October. I love being near the water, love the climate, love the palm trees.
I didn't think I'd miss Texas as much as I do, though. But all of my family and most of my friends are there.

It's tough to relocate and make all new friends again. The kids I grew up with always seem to remain my friends, while a lot of other friends along the way, most always seem to be somewhat temporary. Still, that is a very nice environment you are in now, and although I don't know a great deal about living in Texas, it hasn't ever seemed to have any attraction for me. I think it's all about where we grew up, and what we got used to; that always seems to be an environment that we can fit right back into, probably because most of our original firends, and especially our family, are still in the area. Seems that quite a few of the people I grew up with, have moved to Florida; quite a few are in the Ft. Myers area. Seems they always want to get away from the winter weather in PA.
