I'm from Des Moines, and this is the wealthiest high school in the region, and the neighborhood could best be described as "old money." Maybe that's why nobody's being identified so far, but details are sketchy (and the three young people who were shot are expected to recover). Apparently the party was invitation only (yeah, good luck with that) and the suspects were people who were not invited. More than 200 teenagers were present.

I have a feeling that a lot of heads are going to roll (not literally) when everyone involved is identified.

Things remain relatively hush-hush. Of course, the rumor mills are blaming gangs (which ARE a problem in Des Moines, but as elsewhere, they are mainly a risk to each other) and no names are getting printed. Again, that the people involved are probably from wealthy families probably has a lot to do with it.

The investigation is stymied because the kids are refusing to talk. I'm personally guessing that the PARENTS have told the kids not to talk, because the wealthy, well-connected parents of the shooters, hosts, etc. could destroy the parents' careers and lives in general if anyone gets in trouble.

I mean, East High School, which has a large poverty-stricken and nonwhite student body, had a drive-by shooting, gang-related, a few months ago (targeted) and last I heard, TWELVE people had been arrested! (this says 10; I'd heard 12. Lots of people, regardless.)
