UPDATE: Boy describes horrific abuse during Traci Tyler trial

edited to add: If there are witness names in the article, please post! :)

He said he was forced to pick up rocks and put them in a backpack and wear it around the house, told to stand in in a dining room of the home and not sit down, told he couldn't go to the bathroom without permission and wet his pants a couple of times when he wasn't given permission.

He said he slept in a bedroom for a time and then was told he was acting up and made to sleep in a locked cement enclosure in the basement. At first he was allowed a box spring to sleep on but that was taken away as well.

He escaped at first through an opening at the top of the door, but then was caught searching for food.

The boy described being hungry and "super cold" in the basement room. He was afraid because Tyler had told him that a dead dog was buried in the room with him. He said he slept sitting up with his arms around his legs to try to keep warm.

Woman accused of helping torture her boyfriend's son allegedly filmed the abuse | Daily Mail Online

An Iowa woman accused of helping her boyfriend torture his eight-year-old son allegedly filmed the abuse in the basement staircase where they kept him.

Traci Lynn Tyler, 40, and her boyfriend Alex Craig Shadlow, 30, have been charged with first-degree kidnapping.

Authorities claim the couple 'intentionally subjected' the boy to 'physical and mental torture' in a 6-foot-by-6-foot area under the basement stairs for at least nine hours a day from July to September 2017.

The basement had no light, furniture, or bedding and the boy had to pee in a tin coffee can. He was also never given food while inside the basement, prosecutors said.

Assistant Attorney General Tyler Buller revealed during Tyler's trial on Tuesday that the boy is seen on the seven-minute video desperately needing to use the bathroom.

Buller said the boy is in visible pain in the footage and eventually 'loses control of his bodily functions and urinates', according to the Des Moines Register.

'This part of the crime is on tape,' Buller told Judge James Ellefson.

Ackley Police Chief Brian Shimon said the couple's case was one that 'just makes you sick' and described the basement as being 'locked in a dungeon'.

Authorities said the boy was also assaulted by the couple, who urged their pet dog to bite him. Tyler allegedly frequently hit him with the handle of a flyswatter.

The boy has permanent scarring on his back and limbs and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, police added.

Teachers become concerned about the boy when he returned to school in September 2017. He was so underweight that patches of his hair were falling out.

'He looked very pale, he looked very thin and I was very surprised by his appearance,' Susan Brandt, the boy's second-grade teacher, said on Tuesday.

'I couldn't believe that that was the little boy that I knew the year before.'

Cam Schipper, the boy's third-grade teacher, said he 'looked like a skeleton' and often complained of being hungry.

This was from friday night.

"ELDORA -- Prosecutors showed video of an 8-year-old boy screaming while he needed to use the bathroom as trial resumed for his father's girlfriend on Friday.

In the footage, the child is seen dressed in pajamas and wearing a backpack in a dining room. He stands and shuffles his feet, holding his hands over his groin area. He bends over in agony, always screaming.

It lasts for seven minutes while someone off camera films with a cell phone, occasionally shooing away the family dog, who tries to investigate.

At one point he apparently wets himself.

An Iowa DCI agent who discovered the video said it came from Traci Tyler's phone, and the agent said she could be heard in the background. Three similar videos, lasting 30 seconds or less, also were recovered."

"Testimony in Tyler's case resumed Friday with Agent Jim Thiele showing photos he took of the enclosure about a month after an Iowa Department of Human Services worker had been shown the area and became involved.

Thiele said some of the basement had been altered. The cement floor was painted, the door and frame had been removed, and an interior wall had been taken out, he said.

The agent described finding the door, complete with a metal hasp, in the garage and lumber resting on a mattress in the basement. He reassembled the parts, which matched up, down to the hasp on the door meeting an eye on the rebuilt frame.

The enclosure measured 5.7 feet wide and 6.6 feet long with a ceiling that ranged from 7.3 feet to 4.7 feet high. A partition blocked off the shorter descent under the stairs, and the door was about 2.5 feet wide, Thiele said."

He used the measurements to make a reconstruction of the enclosure, which was set up in the courthouse for the judge to review.

Also on Friday, Tyler's former employer, Anthony Miller, took the stand and explained photos Tyler had sent him through Facebook messenger. He said he had never been to the home, but Tyler had shown him the boy's sleeping arrangements in the basement.

"It was a pillow, a blanket and it looked like a blow-up mattress," Miller said.

Miller, who had operated a bar and grill at a campground, said Tyler had complained about the boy urinating in the registers and his bedroom, and climbing on the stove to retrieve food from on top of the refrigerator.

She sometimes took the child to the bar and grill, he said, and Miller identified a photo Tyler sent him of the boy sweeping at the establishment. Miller said Tyler told him she made the boy sweep because he had stolen crackers.

Miller also recounted seeing Tyler and Shadlow during a camping outing. They came to his camper for drinks, and after half an hour to 45 minutes, Miller asked where the boy was. He said he was told the boy was in the back of their truck. He said the get-together lasted about two hours.

Shadlow is being tried separately.

Testimony in Tyler's trial is expected to resume Tuesday."
