Iowa Man, 20, Accused of Killing Parents and Younger Sister Inside Home Allegedly Blames Masked Intruder

Alexander Ken Jackson is facing three counts of first-degree murder for the fatal shootings of his parents — 61-year-old Jan Jackson and 68-year-old Melissa Jackson — and 19-year-old sister Sabrina Jackson.

Law enforcement officials in Iowa say a 20-year-old man who has been accused of killing his parents and younger sister inside their home is blaming their deaths on a masked intruder.

On Tuesday morning, Cedar Rapids Police officers were dispatched to a residential neighborhood after receiving a 911 call about a possible shooting inside a home, a media release from the department said.

Upon arrival, officers found three family members dead with gunshot wounds and a fourth relative - identified as Alexander - with a gunshot wound to the foot.

Triple murder suspect held on $3 million cash bail

A college student’s account that he awoke to the sound of gunfire and struggled over a rifle with a masked intruder is a transparent lie, a prosecutor said Wednesday as Alexander Ken Jackson, 20, faced his first court appearance on charges he murdered his parents and sister in their northeast Cedar Rapids home.

“This was a horrendous murder,” Assistant Linn County Attorney Ryan Decker said in Linn County District Court. “This was more than just a murder — it was an execution of the defendant’s mother, father and sister. Furthermore, the defendant’s concocted story of a phantom burglar shows the defendant acted out of malice and calculated intent to get away with these murders.”

Investigators found no evidence of a forced entry into or burglary at the home at 4414 Oak Leaf Ct. NE in the Oak Creek subdivision, according to a criminal complaint, which hinted at a possible motive for the triple killings.

“The defendant denied shooting his family members but admitted his father had recently advised that he needed to find a job or move out of the residence,“ the criminal complaint stated.

Now that his parents and sister are dead and there's no one to put money in his prison account, he's going to need a prison job. He didn't think through this whole "I'm not gonna get a job" thing very well.

Gotta say... this is one of those time I think, "yeah, it's a good thing I didn't have kids." I'd definitely want them to get jobs and support themselves at some point. I hope they were asleep.

Were the kids adopted? If the mom was 68, that would have made her 48-50ish when the two kids were born. Not I possible but made me wonder.

Are kids expected to get a job when they are in college?

I’d say the vast majority have to, unless they have wealthy parents or are living on student loan money. In this particular situation, maybe the son was expected to have a job over the summer?

Makes me glad DD is child free by choice. Jobs or not the whole worrying thing. I couldn't do it. I hear ya worry worse as a grandparent.

This guy? I don't know. Takes alot of anger to wipe out your entire family cause dad told.you ya need a job.

BTW we had to have PT jobs in high school. We paid board. When we graduated our parents had saved it for us the whole time.

Heck I had friends had to work as paperboy in grade school so they could buy their Chuck Taylor high tops.

Fingerprints and palm prints on gun belonged to Jackson. They are clear. Not smudged or wiped away.
There was no evidence to show anyone else was in the house or area.
Ring doorbell camera footage showed anyone coming or going from the house that morning on June 15, 2021. No intruder.

I just started watching this trial today without knowing anything about it. I was struck by the bodycam video where the cops sit the boy next to the body of his dead dad as they wait for the paramedics and he's just toodle-oo spaced out the whole time.

I don't know what I expected him to do. But it was so surreal.
