Ex-lover in corn rake killing: Woman was afraid of husband

September 19, 2019

"DUBUQUE, Iowa — The field manager of an Iowa hog farm testified that a woman with whom he was having an affair told him last year she was deathly afraid of her husband — a man now accused of using a corn rake to kill her.

Jerry Frasher testified Wednesday in the trial of Todd Mullis. Mullis is charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Amy Mullis on Nov. 10 at the farm about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Dubuque....

“I know she wasn’t happy,” Frasher testified. “She said she felt like a slave or a hostage around there. She said she was wanting (to leave Todd). One time, she said if he ever found out (about the affair,) she would disappear.”

Todd Mullis confronted him in July 2018 after a phone bill showed more than 100 instances of Frasher and Amy texting, Frasher said.

“I said it was about other stuff, like showing pigs,” he said.

Todd Mullis called Frasher’s wife asking questions about the text messages, and their discussion appeared to satisfy him, Frasher said....

During cross-examination Frasher said he continued to provide professional services to the Mullis farm until Amy Mullis’ death. He said Todd Mullis never showed any animosity toward him...."

BBM. Did LE clear Frasher's wife?

Prosecution is convinced because of a family alibi and cell records that show his phone was not where the murder was committed that means Jerry Frasher is cleared.

Based on this logic, I can put my cell phone in the trunk of car travelling to California and that means I am in that car as well.

How was that not challenged on cross ?

Are we POSITIVE that the injuries are from 6 tine entry points? How deep was the penetration? Was it the same on all 6 entry points?

No other experts willing to provide an alternate theory regarding the entry wounds?

After hearing Todd testify I feel bad for him, really don't think he did it. The explanations around the internet search history seemed plausible.

Reasonable doubt all day long in my opinion.

Really a sad story for all involved....except for the Frasher guy, he's got some bad karma coming his way I bet

Mullis Testifies at Own Murder Trial

September 19, 2019

"...Prior to Todd’s testimony on Thursday afternoon, the State called their final two witnesses – including Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Hemesath, who also serves as an investigator for the department. He processed the crime scene and analyzed the area the evening of Amy’s death. He said he performed 30 to 34 interviews and issued 19 search warrants, including on Todd’s iPad and Todd, Amy and Trysten’s cell phones....

A search warrant on Amy’s Gmail account showed her last email was sent at 10:14 am to Jerry Frasher. The 911 call made by Todd Mullis came in at 12:01 pm....

Deputy Hemesath said Todd was the main suspect during the three and a half month long investigation. Jerry Frasher was initially a person of interest, but email and phone records put him in and around Anamosa from 10:40 am to almost 1 pm that day, so he was ruled out as a suspect. He said Jerry’s wife, Kristy Frasher, was interviewed and never considered a suspect.

He also said DNA testing was not performed on the corn rake – he had inquired about Touch DNA evidence, but they no longer do due to inconsistencies.

The State then called their final witness, special agent Jon Turbett with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Turbett interviewed Jerry Frasher on November 14th and followed that up by talking to his wife and son.

Turbett interviewed Todd at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on November 16th, talking to him for two and a half hours...
A video of the police interview between Turbett and Todd Mullis is then shown to the jury....

The Defense then called their first witness – Todd’s brother, Mike Mullis...

The Defense then called the Defendant, Todd Mullis, to the stand to testify...

The Defense asked Todd about his iPad use – he said others used it too, including Amy. Todd testified Amy had the password. He said he did not do any searches on cheating wives, but did not know who did. He also had an explanation for the other searches – including “how were cheating spouses killed in Aztec tribes” (“We watched the History Channel a lot… would lead to some searches”) and “organs in the body” (done by Todd’s daughter, Taylor)....

Todd was asked to talk about the day of Amy’s death, November 10th...

Todd testified that he never expected to be accused of his wife’s murder. Regarding his interview with special agent Turbett in the police video, Todd said “Yes, I did deny killing Amy… I said ‘You want me to confess to something I didn’t do?’ I tried several times to explain things and he didn’t give me a chance to say two words.”...

The Defense asked Todd, “Did you ambush your wife Amy in the shed that day and brutally beat her and chop her up with that corn rake?” to which he replied, “No, I didn’t.”

Defense: “Do you know who did?” Todd: “…I have no idea.”

The State will perform cross-examination on Todd Mullis will take place first thing Friday morning. The jury could deliberate as early as Friday afternoon."
