A 3-year-old Iowa girl died from injuries allegedly sustained when her daycare provider threw her to the ground for not removing her coat, police claim.

According to court documents obtained by KTIV, Rochelle Sapp called Autumn Elgersma's mother Oct. 29 and told her that her daughter had injured her head in a fall. Sapp, who runs a daycare out of her Orange City home, said that that the 3-year-old had fallen down some stairs.

Charges have been dismissed for now. More serious charges are possible once the autopsy results are in. That could take a few weeks.

Ughh...happens all the time. Don't understand why we just can't lock these people up and throw away the key. this makes me so sad.

And this is also the reason I am a stay at home mom. Been reading all this stuff for years. I don't trust anyone anymore. So scary and sad.

If children make you so mad you feel you need to throw them to the ground, you shouldn't be working as a day care provider. You probably shouldn't be around children at all.

People who hurt children should be locked away for life. It takes a 'special' kind of person to hurt something so small and innocent.

Rochelle Lynn Sapp asked a judge to move her first-degree murder and child-endangerment trial away from Orange City due to widespread publicity of the case by newspaper and television news media that might taint the opinions of potential jurors there.

The story garnered national attention because, in part, of one of Sapp's jail-booking photos, in which she appears to be smirking.

A judge ruled last week to move the trial to Carroll, which is about 90 miles southeast of Orange City and is in a different judicial district. The trial is set for Nov. 13.

According to Sioux City Attorney Thomas Kunstle, a plea agreement has been reached and Sapp will change her plea to guilty. A sentence hearing is scheduled for Thursday in Sioux County District Court.

The details of the plea agreement will not be made public until Thursday's hearing.

A 34-year-old former daycare provider has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the death of a 3-year-old Orange City girl.

Rochelle Sapp pleaded guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter, Child Endangerment Resulting in Death, and Multiple Acts of Child Endangerment in Sioux County Court on Thursday morning.
