*Hearing (re New Counsel) (@ 3pm ET) - IA - Breasia Terrell (10) (last seen E. 53rd & near Lorton Ave on July 10, 2020, Davenport; found March 22, 2021 by fishermen near 270th Ave in Dewitt in Clinton County. Id'd on March 31, 2021) - *Henry Earl Dinkins (48/now 49) arrested (5/5/21), charged (5/6/21) & arraigned (6/16/21) on 1st degree murder & 1st degree kidnapping. Plead not guilty. Held with no bond in the Clinton County jail.
Trial set to begin on 5/9/22. (Should last about 2 weeks).

1/25/22 Update: Motion hearing on trial continuance. Judge Henry Latham granted the motion of continuance of trial. 2/2/22 Update: Setting hearing on 2/10/22 @ 8:30am. The Judge also set a status hearing for 4/19/22 & final pretrial conference for 5/4/22 with trial starting on 5/9/22. 2/3/22: Letter to Judge Latham by Dinkins. Dinkins is scheduled to be in Scott County Court at 8:30am Thursday for a hearing with Scott County District Judge Henry Latham to review the written request Dinkins made for a new attorney in late January.
2/10/22 Update: Order on incarceration status. Motion filed by Latham Brown. Other Order: Regarding motion for new counsel. 2/10/22 Update: 7th District Judge Henry Latham to deny Henry Dinkins' request for a new attorney. Judge Latham summarized the contents of a letter Dinkins sent to the judge Jan. 25 — the same day Latham moved the start of Dinkins' trial to May 9, with a final pretrial hearing set for May 4. Before the change, Dinkins' trial was scheduled to start Feb. 14. In the letter, Dinkins said he had not seen public defender Puentes "but once in eight months." Dinkins also claimed Puentes gave him false phone numbers & he could not contact the attorney. During Thursday's hearing, Puentes explained that as late as last Friday Dinkins had not expressed to Puentes a desire to replace him. He also explained a combination of factors led to infrequent in-person visits, including the fact Dinkins is housed in Clinton County & "discovery has not been done in a timely manner." Judge Latham concluded the hearing by ordering Dinkins to have better access to Puentes via phone & ordered Puentes to have a physical visit with Dinkins "at least once a week. Next hearing on 4/19/22.
