Iowa City Police are seeking the public's help in locating Cristian Martinez, 20, of Muscatine. Martinez was reported missing to police on Saturday, April 15.

Martinez was last seen in the alley behind Bardot Iowa, 347 S. Gilbert St., around 1 a.m. Saturday. Martinez' phone died earlier in the evening and his loved ones have been unable to reach him.

Anyone with information on Martinez' whereabouts is asked to contact police at 319-356-5275.

He was last seen close to Ralston Creek and the Iowa River. It seems that young men leaving a bar with water close by is often a dangerous situation. I hope not, but perhaps yet another young man will be found in the water after leaving a bar?

Oh, I hope Cristian is okay. Please no bad news about this good-looking young man.
Also hoping that he had not been drinking alcohol -- or at least not much. One must be 21 y/o old to drink alcohol in Iowa, of course.
Also hoping he did not get hurt in that alley behind the bar. And yes, the river scares me for him.

Iowa City is in eastern Iowa. The Old Capitol Building, the state's first capitol, now houses a museum of local history. The adjacent University of Iowa Museum of Natural History features prehistoric stone tools and taxidermy. By the Iowa River, City Park has ponds and sports facilities. East, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum displays objects and photos tracing the life of the 31st U.S. president. ― Google

Jerry Martinez took to the streets of Iowa City on Tuesday, searching for any sign of his little brother, Cris Martinez, who disappeared early Saturday.

The older brother and other members of the Martinez family have promised they will not give up until they bring the 20-year-old Muscatine man home. Since Sunday, they have hung or distributed about 500 flyers.

As they were pounding the pavement, crews from Johnson County were sweeping waterways. Even waste-containment companies had been contacted with no luck. Cris Martinez’s debit card and bank card have shown no activity since Friday evening.

I'm from Iowa City. Unfortunately I believe this will end up being a drowning. Drunk students in the past have fallen over the Burlington St Bridge. The railings are quite low and it's not safe. There's a dam right below and it can suck you in. Some people also clamber down to the Iowa River below and it would be easy to trip and fall in. Here's a webcam where it shows live footage of the bridge. It's easy to fall from the bridge when it's dark & especially if also you're drunk and unfamiliar with the area. In the median of a very busy 4-lane street, there's an area where it looks like you could just hop over and cross the last 2 lanes, but actually there's a gap where you could just fall straight down into the water. This happened to a college kid about a decade or so ago.

Iowa has the most structurally deficient bridges in the nation with ~19% in poor condition as of 2020.

I hope he's OK but have read so many threads with the intoxicated/body of water scenarios that haven't ended well that I have become jaded. Sad.

This article doesn't help my thoughts (BBM):

"The friends Martinez was with the last night he was seen told Iowa's News Now he had been intoxicated before taking off.

After an argument, they separated.

His friends said a similar incident happened a few weeks ago, where Martinez wandered off and fell into the water.

They said when they found him, he was wet and covered in scratches."

Oh no, prayers for his family! :(

Authorities have discovered a body along the Iowa River in Iowa City. ... The body was discovered just southeast of the Iowa City Airport. Poice believe the remains, found just after noon Saturday, belong to Martinez.

Iowa City police say they discovered a body at 12:04 p.m. on Saturday in the area of Napoleon Park, 2501 S. Gilbert St.

Police say a couple in the area of the east bank of the Iowa River reported what they thought appeared to be a body in the water. Responding Iowa City officers along with Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies recovered the body from the water.

The Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the individual found and will determine the cause and manner of death.

I'm a Hawkeye grad myself and still live in the region. It's been a HUGE story here.

FWIW, one TV station mentioned the National Suicide Hotline after announcing this, so read into that whatever you might.

RIP, Cristian (if it's him, and RIP whoever you are if it isn't).
