In this article Sarah states she doesn’t hear much from authorities. In an earlier interview she also said that DCI was involved but hadn’t been in contact with her and it had been a day or two. Is that common in an investigation like this to not keep immediate family informed? Again I know LE is going to keep details under wraps so they don’t jeopardize the investigation. Was just curious. She had also posted on Facebook on Thanksgiving wondering if a search was going on. Just assumed there was more communication I guess???
She does a lot of updates on her FB page---which is a good thing. But LE might be wary of going her giving much info if they don't want it to be made public yet. JMO

Hello everyone Jake Rowley here Midwest team leader for the United Cajun Navy. I want to give a quick update tonight on our December 2nd search efforts as well as give info for our continued search on December 3rd.

Unfortunately today did not yield the results we are all hoping and praying for but we did have a huge turnout of volunteers and were able to cover a ton of ground and specialized areas.

As our potential search areas start to come fewer and farther between we hope that the coming days can bring answers soon!

Please consider joining us tomorrow we will continue to use the Sac City Motel as our command Post at 103 Ash avenue in Sac City Iowa. We will meet there at 10:30 a.m. do a quick briefing around 10:35 and have volunteers dispatched into the field by 11:00!

Quick reminder again we will still have deer hunters out tomorrow so if you have your own bright orange clothing please do wear it if not United Cajun Navy has provided blaze orange vest to keep everybody safe during the search.
I just want to thank all the amazing volunteers and businesses that have came together to make all of these volunteer operations happen the Sac City Motel has been an amazing host providing us with sack lunches throughout the week as well as many other local businesses offering treats snacks and coffee. We were able to join Sarah for dinner tonight and her gratitude is definitely extended to every single one of these businesses and volunteers that have made the search efforts possible!

Lastly I want to thank Monkey Express Aerial for joining us again today and staying overnight to provide up with critical drone assistance in the search!

Does anyone mind reposting the Google map showing where his truck was found?

I am thinking *maybe* he fled the truck with a lot of adrenaline and either just made it further than they have been able to search, or fell into water, or he was missed in the area already searched.
IMO/JMO.

There have been a few maps posted. Here's one I did. I believe the truck was located toward the northern part of my purple rectangle.

Jake Rowley

Hello everyone Jake Rowley here Midwest team leader for United Cajun Navy.

I wanted to give everybody a quick update tonight on our Sunday December 3rd search efforts today we had a great group of volunteers show up again to be a part of our search efforts but unfortunately we did not find the answers we are all hoping and praying for so much.

At this point in our operations our focus will shift we will be continuing to work with specialized teams and investigators to try and receive any new leads but at this time we have searched over 100,000 acres around where the truck was found and David's last known location. And we feel we may have exhausted any potential search locations in the area.

We are looking for any new information and in my talks with Sarah tonight she came up with the best name for this campaign "make them squeal" tomorrow I will start to work with a local bank as well as local businesses to try to put together as substantial of a reward fund as possible to try and bring new information to David's disappearance. If your business or organization would be interested in contributing to this fund you can reach out to me and we can point you in the right direction to help us bring David home.

Tomorrow we will not be conducting any organized search these searches May resume as early as Wednesday but we need a few days to step back and find any new information and work with law enforcement to find any more designated search areas.

I thank each and every volunteer that has came out and helped us to this point and I know that Sarah extends that gratitude to you as well the businesses and the town of Sac City has been amazing and have welcomed our team with open arms and for that we thank you.

Also a huge thanks to Monkey Express Aerial for continuing to be an amazing asset to our team allowing us to drone search areas of interest!

Thank you and God bless!

RSBM 100,000 acres is a HUGE area to have been thoroughly searched. The use of drones and the fact that many 1,000’s of acres are plowed to the ground for the winter definitely helps, but still.
We, the public, have a pretty good idea of where the truck was found, but I don’t think anyone outside of LE, and perhaps the higher level members of the various search organizations know for sure what was “David’s last known location”. We can speculate that it was at the Eagle Grove pickup location, but an awful lot of the search effort was centered around Sparky’s, just off Hwy 20 at Hwy 4.
Sparky’s is off the north side of Hwy 20 west. That means that if David’s truck was caught on cctv heading westbound back towards Sac City that evening/early morning, I think it is unlikely that the driver would be identified as he would be on the far side of the cab away from the cameras. Also, if it was caught on camera, was there someone in the passenger seat? I tend to think not as that is the type of information that would have been released by law enforcement. Wish we knew what they are thinking as far as the reason for the disappearance.
Such a baffling case.

I thought that was a lot of ground to cover in a fairly short period too, but they had two different drone companies helping as well. It was said those same companies reviewed the footage for over a week.

The search for David began at Brushy Creek State Rec Area, near where his cell pinged. I've attached the video where Jake states this below. The search has steadily progressed west from BC, along HWY 20 - back towards where the truck was found (190th&Union) and the location of the load drop-off outside Sac City. Eliminating areas of HWY 71 as well. Wasn't Sparky's just a convienant place to setup a command post to stage from? It later moved to the Sac City Hotel.

Posted 11/25 - Anyone wanting to be apart of the search for David Schultz on November 26th, please meet at Sparky’s One Stop off of Highway 20 and Highway 4 at 10:30am. The address is 2325 Marshall Ave Rockwell City. This will be the area of our command post to send people out into the surrounding areas. We have had evidence brought to our attention that makes us believe that our search efforts will be most effective West of Fort Dodge. We will continue to evolve search efforts based off evidence given to us by law enforcement.

JMO I think the searches have been to eliminate the possibility he is somewhere in the open on route. I think LE knows more about what happened because they may know about a location he was last seen or a cast of characters he would likely encounter there. They aren’t asking the public to search in areas that may likely need to be secured if this became a criminal investigation. I think they have sensibly allowed public searches to work to rule out that he walked away from his truck. But they are keeping other information from becoming too public while they wait to see what shakes out. MOO

Thank you. So around 40°F (4.5°C) when David went missing but falling to 14°F (-10°C) in the days following.

I don't think thermal cameras would stand a chance if a body was at the same temperature as the surrounding area. They would be relying on seeing David on the drone footage, which is always a bit of a coin toss. Software exists to spot colors and shapes which stand out, but it doesn't always work.

Isn't it strange that DS's phone would ping near Brushy Creek? I mean, unless it pinged there while he was actually on Hwy 20, but I think the cell pings would be more accurate than that (I know cell pings are always a source of debate here). Why would DS be down in that area at all, with his loaded trailer (I'm assuming he was already loaded, since he was seen at the Eagle Grove facility)? And it still bothers me that both that road and the truck location road are both called "Union Ave." Was he looking for someplace on a "Union Ave."? I'm just not sure about any of the information that's out, and how accurate it all is. He certainly wasn't just out driving around randomly that night hauling pigs. JMO.
Hypothetical :

Could someone have taken him in a vehicle down near Bushy creek, and he had his phone on him? And then they disposed of him or gave him to someone else, then they took his phone back to the truck and left it there as a staged scene?

There's a hog facility on 190th, only about 1/4 mile to the west of the intersection the truck was found. Logically, it seems he could have been heading there, although I know that is not the reported delivery location. Could be another coincidence, I suppose.

I think we still only know David was delivering to Sac City, not where in Sac City?

The feeder farm you're talking about on 190th St (I don't want to name it unless LE or the media name it) does have a Sac City address, so there's no real reason it couldn't have been David's intended destination.

And it's so close to where the truck was found that if David did choose to abandon the truck for some reason, he could be reasonably sure the pigs would be found quickly and delivered safely.

I agree that Sparky’s was convenient with plenty of parking and a ping near Brushy Creek would have sent them searching there. Was that the last ping from his phone? Even though that part of Iowa is very rural, there should have been at least several pings between where David picked up the hogs in Eagle Grove and Sac City. Was the phone shut off after the Brushy Creek area ping? We know the cellphone was in David’s truck when it was found, so does LE believe that David was not with his truck when it was left at Union/190th St.?
Even though the ping near Brushy Creek does not pinpoint that David was there, the Recreation Area is popular with horseback riders and has a separate campground dedicated to equestrians. That indicates large parking areas that would accommodate horse trailers, (and possibly semi’s). They likely have few campers at this time of year. The showers and restrooms are closed, but there are vault toilets available. Did David pull in there contemplating self harm? Or did David stop at Sparky’s and have an encounter with someone who forced him to drive to Brushy Creek?
Either of these scenarios do not explain why David’s truck ended up where it did. Head scratching going on here….
