What exactly is the "trap area"? I would like to see it on a map?

The "trap" area refers to the 500+ foot length of trail where there is a fence on both sides of the trail. It is marked with white lines on the bottom of this map. I'm unsure how far the area is double fenced to the east, but it does go some distance past the lake and Maiden Lane area. The double fenced area is clearly visible from the road in some areas. (thanks to Ollipop for the photos)

eta: I crossposted with otto! His visuals are awesome.

I always thought the trap meant the area that had double chain-link fencing. The vegetation on it makes it so that folks on the lake can't see you, and the noise from the highway makes it isolated as far as sound goes, too.

This is the area we are talking about with the gate that goes to the jetty. It is the same area that goes to the Maiden Ln trail once one fence ends to the east, or through the gate and to the east.

Olli has some great pictures of how isolated and secluded this area is.

That's pretty specific. Do you have someone in mind?!

I think this is just one possible family dynamic, whereby the perp (being a male) would have opportunity to do whatever was done ... his wife at work and perhaps his children napping or visiting relatives.

IMO, a stay at home father is very feasible!

Cinder, please correct me if I have it wrong.:seeya:

@ Cindersoot the lake&across- I feel the same too! less risk for the perp/s to struggle to get back to the roads ,carry 2 girls away from the bikes bac dwn trail over the grass fence etc.. no matter which roads they were to choose or hwy or even back to grassy hidden area its seems pretty difficult.but yes the purse could of been dropped during a struggle & the girls then willingly quietly walked all the way to a vehicle somewhere down the trail, instincts r they got into a boat willing taken to an area with a home with vehicle in very close proximity of the water & purse was tossed back latter. I think this is possibly & even more so if more then 1 person If they notice something dangerously going on in boat & go to beach they prob can swim so they could of easily jumped off or created scene. I thnk they were possibly bamboozled quietly swept away by more then 1 it was too late before they noticed something up hope this makes sense my writing skills r 4 sure not the best!

As I'm looking at Goolge Earth it looks like the double fence extends past Maiden Lane. Is this accurate? I was under the impression that the fence ended at Maiden Lane. The Google Earth pics are from 2008 so it's possibly different now. Just curious. I might have to drive up there to see this for myself, I keep getting so confused.

im in illinois and yesterday we had a temp of 86 with a "feels like temp" of 101, dew point was 74 and humidity was 54. it felt unbearable. the midwest is suffering a major drought as well. moo

You all didn't get the storm that came through Iowa yesterday? We had a couple hours of pounding rain and my yard has decided that it may be worth it to come back to life. The daylilies, which I thought were done for the year, are putting up new sprouts, so we'll have more flowers in a few days.

It's too late for the corn but the beans may be salvageable.

The feds are allowing farmers to cut hay on conservation land or turn stock out onto it, under emergency rules.

Question for anyone with knowledge of family law:

If a hypothetical man has a no contact order with his own daughter, and will be going to prison for a very long time, is he still required to pay child support for that minor child?

Yes, unless he has his lawyer take the order back to court to have it amended to a rate that applies to his income situation (in Iowa the minimum is $10 a month I kid you not). But unless there is a change in court it stands.

ETA: I have a long history of battling a dead-beat parent in Iowa.

I could see the perp checking out the site carefully with google map and pictures as he was planning his abduction.

Heres the thing. They didn't go towards open grassy area, there were no tire tracks. They didn't go up the hill to the hwy, someone would of seen them. They didn't go up in the air. So that leaves the lake and across.

If there were two perps. then one could have pulled a car up on S. Evans (near or in the curve in the road) just as the other perp. and the girls were coming out of the wooded area. I am leaning towards this idea and thinking that one or both of the perps. were familiar to the girls. Not necessarily "next-door neighbor" level of familiarity but someone whom the girls had seen on some occassion.

My one other theory is leaning towards a stranger or two from out-of-town who were in the area that week-end who did the same possible scenario... one or two perps. who got the girls off the trail, and a get-away car that comes along at just the right time.

Of course, I don't know but this makes the most sense to me. But, then there is that paddleboat thing... :waitasec:

No, you are perfectly correct.

I am not a lawyer...

But as I understand it, yes, he still has to pay. However, child support payment judgments take into account the parent's ability to pay. If the parent is making $5 a day, the child support payments will be reduced accordingly.

That is, assuming that the imprisoned parent has no other assets.

It also depends on the custodial parent. If the custodial parent is not relying on government assistance, they may choose to just let the issue of child support drop.

If the custodial parent does depend on government assistance, then the matter of child support is in the hands of the Department of Human Services (or that state's equivalent).

Yes it does.

Whoever is involved had to plan it to a t. Thats for sure.

Yes, high humidity and high air temperature together make for miserable conditions no matter where you live.

What I'm saying is according to records and NOAA's Heat Index Calculator, the heat index or the "feels like temp" was 75 F at 11:54 a.m. on July 13th in Waterloo, IA (if you search for Evansdale, you get Waterloo).

Paraphrasing ... WC said the girls just went for a bike ride like they had so many other times in the past.

Would like to know if the girls were ever seen on Lafayette. What are all the businesses located on Lafayette that are in close proximity to Brovan Blvd.

Did the girls ever go to a variety store (if there) for ice cream/candy, etc.

Did the girls become a familiar customer to a certain store in the neighbourhood.

Some thoughts imo.

Well again night friends. Hopefully tomorrow we have some answers. Peace and love.
