Thinking of a hot summer's day and kids after a bike ride, ( especially slightly" chunky" kids) and how the lure of an icecream bar or cold drink, could draw even the most fearful kids to anyone offering for free...

Under this theory, how did the bikes and their scent get at the lake?

Is it or is it not the same white van/s people/s?? or just copy cats?? Who knows at this point really!!!

One thing that bothers me and I'd like some local input on -

I read a report that says the cctv footage caught the girls going in the OPPOSITE direction, away from the lake, not towards it.

Is this correct?
IIRC, the road they were taped on is more east-west than north-south. So its not really a matter of them going the /wrong/ way to the lake since there are plenty of north-south streets to take west or east of the location they were taped at.

I am at work right now and unable to backtrack through the threads but IF I recall correctly that was bad reporting. I forget what the directionalilty of the lake/video situation was specifically now.

I believe the girls were headed one direction (say west for example) on the video and some reporter defined that as "away" from the lake. However, in actuality the lake is another direction (say south from that location for instance).

So the video did not show them headed in the direction towards the lake but neither did it necessarily show them going what most would consider as "away" from the lake.

I hope that helps and I hope someone will be able to direct you back to the thread where this was dissected at length til we could all make sense of the "away from the lake" reports.

Ok have a look at Hollye's map.

They look like they were heading home NOT to the lake....DIRECTLY in the opposite direction....to me anyway?

The cctv was closer to the lake than the house and they appear to be going in the house direction not the lake direction....!

You got it! They were heading west in front of the Collins home. The lake is south. They could get to the lake by heading either east or west and then heading south.

Maybe the story has been updated? When I clicked on the link, the two girls had admitted they made the whole thing up.

Which doesn't surprise me. With as much attention that the whole abduction thing is getting this summer, I think it would be odd if there weren't a couple instances that were made up because the kids wanted attention or were using it as an excuse or some such thing.

The back of the building where the Cctv is, is facing the Collins home. They were riding right in front of the house heading west.

I thought this happened at the lake, with someone beckoning them closer to the woods (or car) with treats.

Sorry I have dyscalculia so I have problems with direction amongst other things.

So is that house, or lake?

The Collins house is NOT directly opposite....by Hollye's map, anyway.

Plus we drive on the other side of the road here so I really am confused...

Dyscalculia sucks.

I don't know, such odd circumstances with the whole situation. One of the things, the Dad was going to court for was breaking wife's fingers, etc, but how much was he involved in Grandma's house? Did he stay there at times, also?

In the article... http://altoonaherald.desmoinesregis...n-missing-Iowa-girls-families-law-enforcement

Wylma Cook on Wednesday confirmed that Lyric had tried to run away from home several days before the cousins were reported missing. She said Lyric packed a bag after her father got mad at her for not completing her chores.

“She headed for the door, and I grabbed her,” Cook said. “She dropped the backpack and I hugged and kissed her and I said it’ll be OK.”

It just seems Lyric wouldn't have been so upset enough to runaway if it was just a phonecall getting onto her about chores. JMO Grandma was there to console her, so what was the relationship still like between the parents at the time? Wasn't Dad there when Lyric came back the day her Mom was calling police? Did he live there off and on?

OT Someone a friend knew was abused by her boyfriend. This was their lifestyle, he came back, she forgave him. The trial came, she wouldn't testify everything, he got off, and afterwards he left her again. Cycle of her childhood, sad, but it's family lifestyle, drugs, excuses and abuse. They would help out one another, because they were all involved in the same activities. If one told on one, the other would tell what they knew about the other, yada yada...

Anyway, back on topic, if Dad hung around Grandma's, and anyone was watching him, they could have easily grabbed the girls if bike riding was their routine. But why would anyone risk kidnapping girls who could tell who did it? I mean just to shut up the Dad, like the girls wouldn't tell police if asked and why both girls? They weren't always together and two girls telling what they knew was a bigger chance, I don't think this is the scenario. Could be someone cooked up a plan not everyone knows about, but I don't know if I buy the kidnapping to shut Dad up. KWIM

"IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa State Fair says a police booth will display information about two missing Iowa cousins and accept tips about their whereabouts.

http://www.kcrg.com/evansdaledisapp...-Girls-Abducted-from-Evansdale-165302876.html

The fair faced harsh criticism online Tuesday after turning down a request from volunteers who wanted a booth so they could give out information about 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins."

There may be no ground searches for the girls but LE planned on handing out a box for tips etc at the fair. They must have a person of interest. IMOO I have never heard of police setting up anywhere with a tip box before at a fair or an event.

It is so wierd how MCM, DM and son DM don't have anything on their FB walls about Lyric. Many of their friends have changed their profile or cover art image to feature the missing girls, but not these people.

I 'm not saying that it means anything or not. It could mean that some people's theories are correct and they are being held somewhere safe and they aren't worried about them. It could mean that they are not frequent FB users and don't understand the power of social networking to spread the word of a cause. It could mean that they figure all their friends already know so what is the point. It could mean that they don't really care. It could mean that they were involved, but I am not suggesting that; just stating what it could mean.

It could mean nothing at all, so this is just an observation.

It could also mean that the family's computers were all taken by LE before they could change their FB pages.

So Otto...do you believe that LE interviewed and accused DM of being involved? Who do you believe? Who does LE believe? (not aiming to point the finger in any direction...I'm just saying one has to keep an open mind in this case, because things are unknown at this time)

If you have a link quoting police naming a family member as a suspect, I would be very interested in reading it.

when I first posted it they did not know it was fabricated, the news channel later updated the article that their claim was false.
