This case is very confusing. Drowning seems the most likely scenario, and yet there are no shoes left behind, and no one saw them swimming.

if they were abducted, then how did the perp get them away from the trail?

Probably on their own two feet. A perp would only need to have one girl, say by the arm, to control both girls. An onlooker would assume the trio were two children, possibly in trouble, with a parent.

Why didn't anyone see them? There may not have been any witnesses or a witness may have accepted the scene as normal and filtered it out of their memory.

Both girls had "stranger danger" training but research (and countless TV shows) indicate that such training is often ineffective. Even adults are known to freeze up when accosted, let alone children.

There is also no way to know in advance what a given victim will do. I've seen so many families say "my loved one would have fought and screamed and made a huge fuss" but it turns out not to be so.

My google maps actually put the house at the other end at the corner of Gilbert/Lake. So when he says they ride to the end of the street and turn around, they ride down to Evans?

I am sorry as this has probably been discussed. I am trying to catch up, but confused about something. If the girls were not familiar with that lake, how did the police know to swarm that lake within 15 minutes of the call reporting the girls missing? Also was there a reason the family was so quick to call the police? Not saying it's a bad thing, but it seems the typical reaction is to assume they will turn up and to start looking yourself. Or did I miss that? Just curious if they had cause to be especially fearful? Sorry and thank you in advance.

Catching up... lots of new posts today! THANK YOU for posting this picture! I think it's a much better one in terms of helping people recognize her. It would be really great if there was a pic of them side by side to get a visual idea of the difference in height/build.

So hoping for more answers soon.

SAR's---- If they did go swimming than got out grabbed their shoe and then were abducted would the dogs only follow them to entry of the water. Seeing how they were bloodhounds

Iowa is in a drought. If the girls had gone into water and come out again, that would be about as good of scenting conditions as I can imagine with the current weather. Water flowing off the body helps stick the scent particles to the ground and keep them moist longer.

But they did. And according to a witness they did it daily. Well at least one of them did. So it appears the parent's were not aware of what the girls were doing on their bike rides.

I live in an area where my kids ride their bikes around everywhere. They often go various places through-out the day. I do have them check in. There are times where I find out later they went to the river, etc and we have "the talk". But, kids on bikes are kids on bikes. They are impulsive and go with the flow and the more kids there are the more daring they get or there sense of adventure kicks in. it is part of being a kid growing up in rural areas, I guess.

Wonder why she didn't take her cell ?

Well in one of the last interviews, her mother said that Lyric was supposed to text her from her grandmother's cell. So another discrepancy in reporting? Maybe Lyric didn't have a phone?

I have a teenager who would not part with her cell phone if her life depended on it. LOL. I have a tween who I constantly have to remind to take his phone with him. It is constant nagging...do you have your phone. Where is your phone, where did you have it last. Be sure to check in an hour. He is a kid. Children typically do not have the capacity to multitask, organize or remember certain things like linear time. In this day and age, we expect them to be as responsible as we are about deadlines, technology, etc because we live in a world where we have to constantly check up on them. She was supposed to text, well, at 10, I am sure the phone was left home or what not. She's 10. It is unfortunate she didn't have it, but, it is pretty normal kid behavior to forget it. IMOO.

I remember reading in a posted article (sorry don't have the link offhand) that Lyric DOES have a cell phone but did not have it with her.
