IIRC, there was talk of little if any rain.

I think it was GrainneDhu..? Something about scattered, moving showers. Some areas were soaked, while others barely got a sprinkle.

Maybe she would confirm this?

I remember the same thing being said - some areas got soaked and some got hardly any.

I sure hope they do. It is always possible they don't as well... it is always a possibility that this is a Jarred Harrell type situation (re: perp in Sommer Thompson case)...

in other words an RSO waiting to happen.

Yup, any RSO has a start.

I wanted to add to what nikb posted yesterday, that I had something similar happen in that in my early 20's I had a habit of going jogging early in the morning before my son or husband woke up. So early in fact that there was never a person or car out until one day I suddenly realized a car had crossed over onto the other side of the road right next to me and had slowed to my pace. Without even looking at the driver I took off running straight home I just knew the situation couldn't have been an innocent one. And maybe because I had been approached at 14 by a man that wanted me to get into his car I was just always alert. The time when I was 14 I luckily was in front of a little store , I went inside and used there phone to call home, no one was there, so I waited inside until he left . Then totally frighten walked home. He parked outside the store for what seemed like a half hour or more. I just didn't know what to do. I told my mom, she thought I was exaggerating, but there was a child a couple weeks later that went missing. I always look back and wished I had called the police or that my parents had taken me seriously.

Both stories are quite scary. It's not your fault that LE wasn't notified.

Similar things happened to me, repeatedly, when I was growing up. It was during the 70's and my folks were "shoot the messenger" types. When I think of the danger that I was in...I can remember being chased by two older boys one night while walking home from hanging out with friends. When I noticed them coming after me, I bolted. It was dark out and I was so frightened. They were two blocks behind me and gaining. My house was halfway down a steep side street. Somehow, I got inside the front door and locked it before they rounded the top of the corner. My folks were none the wiser. I was about 14 and had given up trying to get my parents' help.

The really freaky thing is, I watched out the window from my darkened bedroom and those two guys were still looking for me...befuddled over how I could have disappeared into thin air.

We got barely a sprinkle when the town 6 miles north of us got nearly a half inch. I live just over 90 miles away but the same front hit both areas.

I've heard the same thing was true of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. Some places got a good rain but others nearby were barely wetted.

Unfortunately, I can't tell which day Misty was speaking of in the link below. Plus, instead of "wet" and "mud" caused by rainfall, she might be referring to marshy areas.

So many volunteers gathered to help, some waited long periods of time to get assigned. But families of the missing girls say it's a good problem to have. The more eyes out looking, the better chance they will be found.
"It's not easy. It's hot and wet. There's ticks and mosquitoes and limbs, brush and mud. It's difficult, and there's some real difficult terrain out there. So I really appreciate it, and I know that my sister and her husband appreciate it too. God will provide as much help is as needed," said Morrissey.

<snipped for space>

If their abduction happened anywheres around the lake area, I wonder what the park and/or city maintenance people wear for work clothes? We hear Elizabeth especially was a friendly and chatty child, and if the girls saw a person they recognized, dressed in clothes appropriate for that area, I think they would not have been suspicious, and readily engaged him/her in conversation and probably gone along with them without much hesitation.

I think whomever took the girls had watched them long enough, or knew the family routines enough, to have several opportunities in mind. The abductor may be someone who is so close to one of the families they know the family routines without doing much stalking or observing.

The home the girls were at that day does not sit in the middle of a group of just homes, but there are businesses around there as well. So many opportunities for someone with bad intentions to observe 2 little gals innocently riding around on bikes, like kids should be able to do anywhere.

I feel this was not done by a total stranger, it is someone at least one of the families knows, if not all the families, and it will be another case of many being shocked at who the abductor really is. I don't think that person is a sexual deviant, but more someone with not all cylinders firing, a front for someone else behind the scenes, who wanted the girls for whatever reason.

BBM... and sorry if this has already been mentioned, I'm catching up. That darn sleep thing really gets in the way of keeping up here. ;)

BBM #1 I agree, and the thought just occurred to me how many people would look appropriate in a pretty wide array of clothing that wouldn't seem out of place. Fishing gear, excercise clothing (jogging/running/cycling), basic casual shorts and shirts (walking the dog, going for a short walk alone or with another person, etc.), "skater kids" on the way to or from the skatepark (although this seems like kind of a round-about way, but still possible). Then there are the more "official" people like rangers, maintenance people, etc. At that time of day, who knows how many people/types of people stopped by the lake to eat their lunch too.

BBM #2 I hadn't thought of this until just now but did their routines change quite a bit when Misty started her new job? I got the impression, and I could be totally wrong, that Misty and Lyric were spending a fair amount of time together - going swimming almost daily etc. I don't know if G'ma was regularly going to the Collins' house every day prior to that, but probably so IMO. Maybe Lyric was spending more time with Misty before she went back to work, instead of going with G'ma every day. If someone wanted both girls and Lyric hadn't been there regularly before Misty went back to work, the two girls could've been observed for a pretty short window of time before they disappeared. Or, the person(s) who took them could have known about Misty starting work and that it would lead to both girls being at the Collins' house.

BBM #3 I agree completely. I haven't settled on any theory and I kind of don't think I will until we find out what has really happened, but there are a few points I'm pretty set on and one is that the person/people knew the families or at least knew of them. I'm also pretty set that whoever did whatever has happened, at least one of the girls wasn't concerned about the person.

GrainneDhu, I knew it was you! :). Thanks for your help!

Your Irish screen name reminds me of my own heritage. My great-great grandfather Ulick moved from county Mayo, Ireland, to Ottawa, Canada in the 1800's.

TY Superbee! Such sweet blessings. I hope that Lyric and Elizabeth can do the same very soon!

Rainfall - IIRC it was decided there was little if any rain in Evansdale itself that actual day but still fairly deep puddles about from the day before.

I'm pretty sure that puddles would evaporate pretty fast during the hot summer ... there wouldn't be any puddles 24 hours later.

One of the people that lives in Evansdale posted a long time ago that it rained through the morning.

According to the weather records for July 13, 2012, there was .17 inch of rainfall that day. Maybe the "official" recording station was in a location that didn't receive as much rain as other locations. Because IIRC, more than one local has mentioned rain that day.

I remember that and it's confused me, too. If you look at "rainfall totals" it doesn't look like much, but that all depends on exactly where they're measuring. I'm not local to that area but from what locals have posted it seems quite similar there. I've left work before and it was barely sprinkling and then gotten home a few miles away and it's obviously been pouring, with water filling the ditches and overflowing gutters.

Ironically around the time one local posted that it was raining enough to get things damp and another posted that there was heavy rain, we had one of those storms where I live. You could literally be in our front yard getting a light mist on you and looking at the beautiful rainbow, while in the backyard it was pouring down rain and flooding the yard. It reminded me how even if both people / all people are accurate in their statements about the rain, it can be so different from town to town or even block to block.

Hurry, Dr Drew is covering this case.

ETA, it was just a short phone conversation with someone close to the case. Now they are discussing kidnappings in general. The transcripts should be up later.

One more quick addition to my post... there are also people who think "rain" means "I got a drop of rain on me, oh no!" vs. those who think "eh... it's water, I'll dry out." I personally consider it a "light rain" when it's enough to get the car dirty but not so much that I really care if I have to walk to my car or mailbox or whatever. I only carry an umbrella if it's pouring so much that I'll be soaked, but I see people all the time carrying umbrellas or running to their cars when it's barely drizzling. Again I'm not a local, but I can see how perceptions might vary widely - even if people were standing in the exact same spot.

I had an Irish great-grandmother.

Did your grandfather leave during or as a result of the Great Hunger?

Very good point, I hadn't really thought of it that way. I can see how people could go through the same rain and identify it differently.

A couple of blogs on the scanner thread perked my interest real quick. I just wish they would find these two little girls. My heart goes out to their family and loved ones.

I was looking for updates and saw the photos of the vigil held by Drew and Heather's church on Sept 13, the two month mark.

There are some lovely photos, but one that especially caught my eye was of Drew, Heather, and Lizzie's brother Kelly.

Her brothers face is a study in emotion, and it really drives home just what this family is suffering.

The emptiness and loss on their faces is just heartbreaking.

Oh wow I hadn't realized that was Lizzie's brother when I first saw the picture. Thank you for pointing it out. What an obviously sweet and loving child who is missing his sister. :( The whole family looks heartbroken but that picture stands out.
