Don't forget the infamous "bushy haired stranger".

http://everything2.com/title/The+Bushy+Haired+Stranger:seeya:

The other day my boyfriend was reading an article to me about an attempted abduction. When he was getting ready to tell me what kind of vehicle the man was driving, I stopped him and said, "let me guess, a white van?" It was (of course!), and he asked me how I knew that. I just sighed and told him it's ALWAYS a white van.:banghead:

Oh, yes... the "bushy haired stranger" indeed! Oddly enough, that term was running through my mind as we discussed the "van cliche" yesterday. And, for years now that term leads me to think of Diane Downs, because it came to me that her saying a bushy haired stranger had shot her little children was, in a way, the only true statement to come out of her mouth, IMO.

I mean, look at it from the children's point of view. Their beloved mother stops the car, pulls out a gun, aims it at them and starts shooting. What's stranger than that?!?

I think that it is offensive and kinda ignorant to think because someone drives a white van or any van, that they are a perv is totally demeaning to me. I drive a large "White" conversion van because it transports my son who is in a wheelchair.

Just announced: Concerned citizen will match reward money in missing girls case

Significant new money is being pledged to the reward fund for missing Evansdale girls Elizabeth Collins and Lyric cook. The two cousins have been missing now 140 days.

Friday afternoon, a concerned Cedar Valley resident notified KWWL that they will match the reward fund for Elizabeth and Lyric, up to $100,000, for critical information leading to the whereabouts of the girls, their safe return and the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the kidnappings.

This money is in addition to $50,000 announced earlier.

The person wants to remain anonymous, but wants the girls' families to know of their love and concern for them.

Thanks, CoachSue, for finding this good news!

Wow... this generous pledge which has the potential of becoming a reward of up to $150,000. is probably, IMO, the best news the family has had in a long time. My guess would be that they burst into tears of appreciation when they heard about this new donor.

BBM - hmm... is it just me or should that have said "or" rather than "and?" IDK...

Sorry you find it offensive/ignorant/demeaning to point out in a joking fashion the same thing we discuss ad nauseum here on WS. How many white van discussions have we participated in on this case alone?

And to extrapolate from such a discussion that anyone thinks everyone who drives a white van is a pervert seems to be quite a stretch, IMO. Saying that many "pervs" drive white vans is in no way saying that everyone who drives a white van is a "perv".

These two little girls should be home, safe and sound, for the holidays, and yet they aren't. They need to be found, and the person/people responsible for taking them must face justice. To me, that's more important than white vans (or purple sedans or black trucks . . .) JMO

This took the form of questionnaires given to some 150 potential jurors who were summoned to the courthouse Nov. 13 and Nov. 20.

Schoeberl said the results showed that 26 respondents had knowledge of Morrissey or others involved in the criminal cases, and 61 said they had formed an opinion about Morrissey.

I'm confused. 26 people "had knowledge" of Morrissey but 61 had formed an opinion? Does "had knowledge" mean that they heard of him---or knew him personally or through a friend of a friend? Anyways, 61 people out of 150 having an opinion on the case means that 89 do not have one. The majority do not. Unless I am reading these numbers wrong, it looks like many jurors do not even know who Dan is. I'm actually very surprised by these numbers.

He said about 40 percent of the people indicated they hadn't heard or read anything about Morrissey and less then half didn't make the connection between Morrissey and the missing cousins.

I'm reading the % that answered each question, and there's no reason the trial can't be held in Black Hawk County. The numbers are nowhere near overwhelming.

OT. But why must most pervs drive a white van? You'd think they'd steer away from the cliche!

I guess its because white vans seem rather innocuous, they are a dime a dozen (even in Australia). they blend in because people are used to seeign them around. Do they use them as courier vans in the US liuke they do here?

the more of them there are the less they stand out

I noticed a while back that some of these vans have sliding doors on both sides of the van, they could be used to grab someone either side of the street.

I think they'd have to take it to Timbuktoo before they found a jury pool who doesn't know of/have an opinion of Dan Morrissey.

I thought the whole idea of jury trials was to be judged by your peers?

I think he may be peerless.:what:

Not true...

150 jurors:

"Schoeberl said the results showed that 26 respondents had knowledge of Morrissey or others involved in the criminal cases, and 61 said they had formed an opinion about Morrissey."

"He said about 40 percent of the people indicated they hadn't heard or read anything about Morrissey and less then half didn't make the connection between Morrissey and the missing cousins."

"61 indicated they had formed an opinion of Morrissey's guilt or innocence. 87 said they hadn't formed an opinion."

http://www.theprovince.com/news/Saa...ng+attempted/7646310/story.html#axzz2ECgEAVlJ

A white U-Haul van was mentioned in the calls and the first arriving officer noticed a vehicle matching that description driving from the area with a side door open.

The officer said the van headed directly toward the police vehicle. By the time evasive action was taken, the van had sped away.

A 17-year-old girl had been grabbed while in the driveway of her home, and her screams were heard by her mother and a friend, also 17, inside the house. The girl came out to help and received what was described by police as a “laceration wound” as she attempted to intervene.

“The young lady was actually placed in the van,” said Saanich police spokesman Dean Jantzen during a news conference Tuesday afternoon. “We believe the direct actions of the second 17-year-old young lady really assisted with allowing the initial victim to escape the vehicle before it took off.”
