I can't accept this theory because the girls were supposedly headed toward the lake weren't they? How would this person know to discard them there? Just by coincidence?

No they were not necessarily headed to the lake. Only the lawn watering guy supposed saw them go by, and that timeframe is shaky. They were headed west on Brovan and there are no credable sitings after that. Zero. Somebody would have seen them at some point going that distance. My gut is that they never made it there. Too far ,too fast, without being noticed???

I think they were taken to this location alive and were sexually assaulted and killed at this location. In my opinion, the bodies would be closer together if just dumped and probably not be so far off the drivable path.

Wait, so Dunkerton is right smack in between the dump site and the kidnap site -- in the CENTER of the awareness space?! Hmmmm.... Just sayin'.

great catch!

I think the person is definitely a local that was familiar with the park. IMO no one would drive down a desolate dirt road in hopes of finding a place to dump a couple of bodies. This person(s) had a destination.

Love the birds eye view, thanks Otto.:rocker:

Wasn't it Aunt Tammy who originally said to search around the lake for the girls? I think she may have known the girls rode their bikes there, even though Heather and Wylma said they didn't.

The family always stated the girls wouldn't have gotten into the leech infested lake but many, including myself, felt like it was a possibility. And LE would have been remiss, IMO, if they hadn't thoroughly searched the lake.

for sure, imagine if they hadn't and we'd woken up to headlines

"Girls in Lake All This Time"

Doesn't bear thinking about.

It's in "Missing Kids 101" search nearby bodies of water.

Lyric had spent a lot of her childhood with Drew and Heather, but was living with grandma in Waterloo before/after Misty got parolled also to grandma's in Waterloo.

What my question has always been, and I was too scared to post it at the time, is where was Dan actually living when this happened?

Grandma tells a story about Lyric packing her bags and getting ready to run away from home because of fighting with Dan about chores...but at least she had her family together.

I always thought that implied that the chores she was supposed to do were at grandmas, so why is Dan disciplining her for something that occurred where he was not supposed to be living?

A little inconsistency that tells me Dan may well have been living with Misty, grandma and Lyric, thereby probably violating all sorts of court orders.

IIRC, Dan and his son with living with his mother (Lyric's paternal grandmother). At least, that is where he was on the day the girls went missing.

Dan was/is living with his mother. His mother was interviewed and she was at work, he was at her home with the son.

To further support my theory that they were taken to this location alive and killed at the site they were found. There is a clearing at this location. If they were trying to hide them deep in the woods, they would not be in an area that is more clear of trees than other areas. I believe they were sexually assaulted by one or more people and killed the same day.

Wow, look at that. Really puts in perspective when you see what it looks like in the summer.

You are so right.

That little island in the middle of the lake is what caused me to think the girls may have tried to swim over to it. I realize now, thanks to all of the info our locals posted, that this really isn't a lake for swimming. But LE did the right thing in checking the lake like they did.

This one shows the distance of the dirty path/road to the discovery site. That is a lot of woods to carry bodies through only to dump them in a clearing.

It seems to me that if they were placed side by side, rather than end to end some distance apart, they would have been a lot easier to find.[/quote]

BBM - My thoughts exactly.

And, my guess would be that the hunters (and others who might have gone through earlier) could have walked within 3 Ft. of either little body and not seen them.

IMO walking through high weeds can leave, temporarily, a noticeable path of bent down grasses. Perhaps that too could have caused perp to place bodies in two different places thinking that re-walking the same path would make it even more noticeable.

Dan was/is living with his mother. His mother was interviewed and she was at work, he was at her home with the son.

I know that's where he was supposed to be living.

He was on parole too.

Wylma said that Lyric got in trouble with Dan for not doing her chores at home.

Wylma talked Lyric down from running away from home. Home being Wylma's home.

If Lyric had got into trouble at home, she would be running TO Dan, not AWAY from him as she wasn't supposed to be living with Dan.

But they rode there anyway many times...didn't that man watering the lawn see them that day and many other times to the point he knew Elizabeth? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

He saw them riding their bikes, especially Lizzie, but I don't believe he knew whether or not they were riding to the lake.

It was the opposite way around, the family were insistent the girls were not in the lake but LE drained it anyway.

The family had originally looked around the lake though, for the girls.

wondering now why family said they were not in the lake????
Some of us including me always thought it was Dan's court hearing that
put his daughter in danger.
Still could be.
But wonder if someone was after Lizzy's parents or the WHOLE family???

Wow, wouldn't that be a great selling point!:what:

I can see the ad now - beautiful home, near schools and public transportation, already equipped for meth production, attached garage. Must see to appreciate.

It has to be disclosed to any potential buyers before an offer is accepted, so why not disclose it up front? That way, those who don't want to be stuck with extensive rehab won't bother considering the house and those people who are comfortable doing rehab will realise there may be some potential there.

I agree.

Is the road gravel or dirt? We have both types in Iowa. People living on gravel roads like me do a lot of fussing at the county board of supervisors to keep the gravel and not be downgraded to dirt.

I'm sure someone who hunts, who is used to timber would have no problem walking thru there. It looks thick from above because of the foilage but underneath might have walkways from deer and other animals.

I don't know if gravel or dirt. I am in MN and only base it off the photo. Either way, I doubt anyone would drive down a gravely dirt road unless they knew where they were going.
