That's not what I heard him say. When asked about whether the area had been searched, he stated that Bremer County searched but he wasn't sure how far in they searched. He didn't, IIRC, state that the area where the girls were found had not been searched.

I assume this search by Bremer County took place shortly after the girls disappeared, but I'm not certain about that.

I do not find it odd that they are not releasing information about if the girls were clothed or not. In the case of Evelyn Miller, they did not release this information to the public either. Just recently they used the clothing information to make an arrest in the case. While the accused was serving time for child , he made comments to fellow inmates about the state in Evelyn's body was found, including information as to whether she was clothed or not when she was found. The information was something that only LE and Evelyn's killer would know.

Did they say if there are suspects or if anyone is in custody? Was this question even addressed? And...how can you speculate that the 2 bodies are E and L based on "stature" and "no one else is missing", when the parents haven't even viewed the bodies or identified them?

Something isn't right here IMO...

Purely speculation and I am going all out with this...I think there is a witness, participant, or suspect and he/she is talking. That is how they located the bodies, know it is L and E, and they are looking in the ditches a distance away from where the bodies were located because the person told them there is evidence (weaponss, clothes, belongings, etc) there!

I was surprised also that noone asked if they had a suspect.

The "hunters" found both girls. Did they find one body, realize who it must be and wander around until they found the other? Were they easy to see 50 feet from each other?

In the press conference Abben said he wouldn't comment on whether or not they had been buried, partially buried or if there was any attempt to hide the bodies.

IMO Abben was trying hard to avoid saying anything that would indicate how long the girls may have been there, and how they were found (buried, out in open, etc.). I think that is why he refered to "bodies" rather than "remains" or "skeletal remains", and refused to say how the girls were identified. He isn't giving anything away.

Thank You. I did notice after close look that it appears that the water was much higher. iirc a poster back some said that it had been dry this summer. That would explain for all the exposed soil. The area that the bodies are located would have been much closer to the water, I would expect that the area that the bodies are located in would have been tall (3 1/2) average uplands/wetland grasses.

All the rivers and streams are very dried up here in Iowa. And have been.

The distance apart is odd... can't imagine they were carried in one by one - there would be a trail to follow second time surely?

I think when one was being killed, the other one tried to run and the second location is where she was caught and killed.

So sad to think.

I just can't see a petrified little girl being able to get 50 ft away especially when it's overgrown in summer?

I'm sure I'd be rooted to the spot with fear.

Ollipop posted last night that the girls were identified via clothing. So I feel confident that at least the initial identification was based on clothing.

We'll probably never know, since he killed himself in jail this week.

It couldn't have been Israel Keyes. He was arrested in March and was in police custody when the girls disappeared.

Your right Adden said, "bodies", now that makes me think that maybe they were not skeletal.

From "the picture", it appears the grass was/still very thick and no signs of recent excavation. This makes me think no grave or very shallow grave/graves and lots of scatter by wildlife.

I'm a couple pages back on reading, so forgive me if this topic has already been abandoned, but as to why they were so quick to make a preliminary ID of the girl's bodies:

A 6 year old girl named Jessica disappeared from my home town. We looked for her for 18 months. Didn't find a single sign of her. 18 months after she went missing, her body was found in a ditch in a little bitty farming community some miles away. Her mother was notified that they had likely found her, and a trailer ran on the local tv stations that she had likely been found, within three hours of the body being found. They, of course did not have positive ID yet, but she was still wearing the clothes she disappeared in and her medic alert bracelet was found under her in the ditch.

They likely have similar reason to believe that these are the girls, even pending an official ID.

1) girls were found approx 40 feet apart from each other
2) police have lots of info but are not sharing it publicly, as it is info only the killer(s) know
3) It is believed that the place where the girls were found was a dump site, and not the site of the murders (his words).

Hunters and fishermen, by their nature, often prove very helpful in locating remains and finding clues in missing person investigations. They are the eyes and ears of the forest and waterways and are very observant of signs, and instinctively notice things that are out of place. I am confident that the hunters that located Elizabeth Collins, and Lyric Cook, were aware that they were missing due to the awareness in their case..
Doubt their hunting trips will ever be the same again..

Search groups who look for missing people are asking hunters to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious they may find while in the woods.

"They get into places we sometimes can't," said Monica Caison, the founder of the CUE Center for Missing Persons in Wilmington, NC.

Caison said in the past 72 hours, her organization has received reports of six bodies/skeletons being found nationwide by hunters.

"They start getting found as soon as the hunters start hitting the woods," she said, noting the holidays especially bring out lots of hunters.

Caison said not only should hunters be looking for bones (if you can't rule out a bone being an animal, she says call police), but also looking for disturbed ground or dirt, signs of possibly a shallow grave.

Also, hunters should be aware of manmade items that look out of place like purses, clothing, shoes, wallets, keys, etc.

"If it's way deep in the woods and it doesn't fit, they should definitely call that in," she said.

Just two months ago, a couple of hunters prepping land in rural Spartanburg County stumbled upon some skeletal remains which turned out to be missing 20-year-old Crystal Freeman.

"It happens all the time," Caison said, "so be vigilant."

This area seems like more of a dump site than anything else.

If they were there in July in the heat, there would have been brush and grasses up tall. Not to leave out the bugs and everything else. Plus the area isn't controlled (perp wouldn't know when somebody else may come in). Since there is only one way in/out I wouldn't think the perp would want to spend too much time there.
